Christoper Boykin Death: Ex-Wife of Beloved Reality Star Speaks Out

The ex-wife of Christoper Boykin released a statement in the wake of this former reality star’s surprising death.

As previously reported, Boykin died on Tuesday at the age of 45, with sources now confirming he passed away from a heart attack.

This isn’t shocking for someone who stood six feet, six inches tall and weighed well over 300 pounds.

But it doesn’t make Boykin’s death any easier for his friends, family members and loved ones to deal with.

The former U.S. Navy member and bodyguard of professional skateboarder Rob Dyrdek rose to fame in 2006 when he debuted on the MTV reality series Big & Rob.

The show lasted until 2008, chronicling the wacky lives of its two main stars as they played pranks on each other, engaged in various forms of hijinks and generally just had a great time together.

Boykin went on to make appearances on other MTV programs, such as Fantasy Factory, and solidified his reputation as a good friend to those in the rap community.

His death has clearly left a void in the lives of many.

“My heart is broken,” Dyrdek wrote on Twitter last night in response to the awful news, following this message up with a few more:

“I don’t want to write this post. I don’t want to believe that this is reality. I am so thankful for you.

“We truly were brothers that lived an unexpected unforgettable adventure. I just can’t fathom that it would end so suddenly.

“You will forever be in my heart.”

On Wednesday morning, meanwhile, Shannon Turley took to her ex-husband’s Twitter account to express her sadness over Boykin’s death.

The two were parents to a nine-year old daughter named Isis.

“This is Shannon, Big Black’s ex-wife,” Turley. “I’m heartbroken to tell you of Black’s passing. He’s everything to me and Isis and we will miss him.”

Boykin and Turley divorced in 2009.

Boykin tweet

Known to the public and also to those close to him as “Big Black,” Boykin posted numerous photos of his little girl on his Facebook page over the years.

He most recently shared one last August, just as she was starting a new school year.

“3rd Grade Ice you growing too fast,” he wrote as a caption to the sweet image.

Rapper Chanel West Coast was also saddened by Boykin’s death.

“RIP @bigblack1972,” she wrote on Instagram after learning the news, adding:

“My heart is crushed hearing this news. I’ll never forget all the times you made me laugh. So many epic memories with you.

“You put smiles on a lot of people’s faces and you will be missed dearly by SO many.

“My prayers go out to your family and loved ones. Keep them laughing up in heaven.”

Steelo Brim (of the series Ridiculousness) also shared a touching post on his Instagram:

“My brain can’t truly comprehend this. As soon as we met we became friends. Genuine, Funny, Family Man, just an Overall Great guy.

“May God Rest his soul and he make everyone in heaven smile like he did on earth! LOVE!”

And, finally, MTV released the following statement as a tribute to Big Black:

MTV is deeply saddened to learn the news of Christopher ‘Big Black’ Boykin’s passing.

He was a long time and beloved member of the MTV family and will be greatly missed. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends at this time.

RIP.

Christopher Boykin: Cause of Death Revealed

Last night, the world learned the tragic news that MTV star Christohper Boykin had passed away at the age of 45.

Better known to many fans as “Big Black” from his time on the series Rob & Big, Boykin was one of the network’s biggest stars at one point.

At the time of his passing, the exact cause of Chris’ death was unknown.

Now, People magazine is reporting that it was a heart attack that claimed Boykin’s life.

Once standing at 6’6″ 375 pounds, Chris had reportedly slimmed down tremendously in recent months.

Sadly, despite his increased focus on fitness, doctors were unable to save the beloved media personality’s life.

Boykin has been mourned by numerous celebrities on social media, most notably his former co-star, Dyrdek:

“My heart is broken,” the pro skateboarder wrote in a series of posts on Twitter.

“I don’t want write this post. I don’t want to believe that this is reality. I am so thankful for you. We truly were brothers that lived an unexpected unforgettable adventure. I just can’t fathom that it would end so suddenly. You will forever be in my heart.”

Last year, in an uncharacteristically candid interview, Dyrdek revealed that his friendship with Boykin had come to an end as a result of the pressures of fame and the pair’s dovetailing career trajectories:

“I think he didn’t want to be known for like the sidekick,” Dyrdek said. “So that created a lot of that tension between me and him.”

He added that while their reality series brought them fame and fortune neither had ever dreamed of, it also did irreparable damage to their longtime friendship:

“I think it was more the fundamental struggle of wanting to not be so connected to each other,” Dyrdek added.

“Ultimately, after we had a big blowout creatively over an idea … things were so tense at certain times — it’s funny now that I think about it — but we literally would film some of the funniest things that we have ever done and would be losing it and then walk away and not talk to each other.

The rift between the two talents brought Rob & Big to a premature end Dyrdek and Boykin seem to have somewhat patched things up in the months prior to Chris’ death, with Dyrdek recently posting a throwback photo of their time together on set.

Our thoughts go out to the Boykin family during this difficult time.

Christopher Boykin: Mourned by Rob Dyrdek, Other MTV Stars

As previously reported, Christopher Boykin is dead at the age of 45.

The bodyguard-turned-reality-star passed away on Tuesday from causes currently unknown, although it is presumed a heart attack is responsible for his unexpected death.

We’ll know more when an autopsy is performed.

Known affectionately as “Big Black,” Boykin was a former member of the United States Navy who rose to fame as part of the MTV series Rob & Big.

He helped anchor that fun reality show as one half of the title show duo.

From 2006 through 2008, Boykin played pranks and engaged in ridiculous antics with his best friend, professional skateboarder Rob Dyrdek.

Despite a brief falling out after the series wrapped, Boykin mostly remained close to Dyrdek, appearing on other MTV shows opposite his close pal – and also remaining linked to him forever in the eyes of fans and followers.

And now Dyrdek has spoken out on Boykin’s passing.

“My heart is broken,” Rob wrote on Twitter last night in response to the awful news.

Keeping it short and simple, Dyrdek added:

“I don’t want to write this post. I don’t want to believe that this is reality. I am so thankful for you.”

In a follow-up message, Dyrdek added:

“We truly were brothers that lived an unexpected unforgettable adventure. I just can’t fathom that it would end so suddenly.”

And then there was this third Tweet: “You will forever be in my heart.”

And, finally, the most heartbreaking Twitter post of all from Dyrdek:

The 6′ 6,” 375 pound reality star starred as Dyrdek’s bodyguard on 19 episodes of the aforementioned MTV show.

He is survived by his nine-year old daughter, Isis Rae, and a number of other MTV personalities also mourned his passing on Tuesday evening.

Wrote Chanel West Coast on Twitter:

RIP @bigblack1972. My heart is crushed hearing this news. I’ll never forget all the times you made me laugh. So many epic memories with you. You put smiles on a lot of people’s faces and you will be missed dearly by SO many.

My prayers go out to your family and loved ones. Keep them laughing up in heaven.

Juicy J, who was also a co-star of Big Black’s, took to social media to remember the late MTV star via a heartbroken Tweet.

“Rip Christopher “Big Black” Boykins,” wrote the rapper.

Steelo Brim (from Ridiculousness) also shared a touching post on his Instagram. It reas as follows:

“My brain can’t truly comprehend this. As soon as we met we became friends. Genuine, Funny, Family Man, just an Overall Great guy.

“May God Rest his soul and he make everyone in heaven smile like he did on earth! LOVE!”

Finally, MTV released an official statement in the wake of this sad news.

“MTV is deeply saddened to learn the news of Christopher ‘Big Black’ Boykin’s passing,” it reads, concluding:

“He was a long time and beloved member of the MTV family and will be greatly missed. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends at this time.”

We share this sentiment.

We send our condolences to all who knew Boykin well and all who will continue to mourn his loss for many days, weeks and months to come.

Christopher Boykin Dies; Rob & Big Star Was 45

Christopher Boykin, the best friend of Rob Dyrdek and co-star of the former hit MTV reality series Rob & Big, died on Tuesday from unknown causes.

He was 45 years old.

big man

According to Boykin’s representative, per TMZ, no official cause has been determined, but those close to “Big Black” believe he passed away from a heart attack.

The program chronicled the life and friendship of the professional skateboarder and his close pal, who also served as his bodyguard.

On the show, Boykin and Dyrdek lived together in the Hollywood Hills and hatched one crazy plan after another.

For example, one week they decided to teach Meaty the Bulldog how to skateboard … and another week they purchased a miniature horse that they planned to keep in their backyard.

The series was chock full of practical jokes and humorous stunts, but it was mostly highlighted by the way in which Rob and Big – who possessed contrasting personalities – interacted with one another.

It was sort of like a version of classic sitcom The Odd Couple.

At one point, Boykin and Dyrdek’s friendship grew a bit strained, but they made up enough to appear together on the show Fantasy Factory.

In a March 2016 interview, Dyrdek opened up about his fall out with Boykin, saying at the time:

“He didn’t want to be known for [being] the side kick. So that created a lot of that tension between me and him.”

Just six weeks ago, however, Dyrdek shared the following throwback photo of himself and his now-late friend.

Prior to becoming and unexpected reality star, Boykin served in the United States Navy.

He is survived by a nine-year old daughter.

Upon learning of this sad news, rapper Chanel West Coast Tweeted the following message:

RIP @BigBlack. My heart is crushed. I’ll remember all the times you made me laugh and my prayers go out to your family.

Along with Rob & Big and Fantasy Factory, Boykin appeared on three episodes of Dyrdek’s other show Ridiculousness, as well as MTV Guy Code and MTV Snack Off.

We send our condolences to his family members, friends and loved ones.
