Lyric McHenry Laid to Rest, Mourned by Magic Johnson

About three weeks after she was found dead in the most shocking and disturbing of manners, Lyric McHenry has been laid to rest.

Details on the funeral have not been made public, but basketball legend Magic Johnson is actually the one who confirmed that a service took place on Wednesday.

Johnson was close to the late 26-year old because she was very good friends with his son, EJ.

McHenry, in fact, was known to television viewers because she made multiple appearances on the first and only season of EJNYC, a spinoff of Rich Kids of Beverly Hills that aired in 2016.

It centered on the life of EJ Johnson and his circle of acquaintances; Lyric and her sister were prominent members of this latter group.

On August 14, however, McHenry’s body was discovered in the Bronx.

She was only wearing underwear and a pajamas top — and a small bag of cocaine was found on her person.

Friends and family members issued statements of sadness and confusion shortly afterward, all stunned by this development.

It was also originally reported that McHenry was 20 weeks pregnant at the time of her death, something no one close to her appears to have been aware of.

In the wake of her funeral, this is what Magic Johnson Tweeted:

Yesterday was a difficult day as we laid to rest Lyric McHenry, a daughter to Cookie and I and best friend to EJ.

We’ve known Lyric since she was a baby and shared many lifelong memories with her and her family. We were blessed to witness her become a caring and brilliant young lady.

Her talent was special and her potential limitless.

She will be sorely missed. May she rest in peace.

magic message

The Hall of Famer’s son has only said a very little bit about losing his best friend.

Back on August 27, EJ said simply via Instagram:

“I’m going to make this clear to everyone.

“There will be no mourning post because I’m not going to reduce a 25 year friendship to one Instagram post. Please respect my privacy and my process.”

McHenry graduated from Stanford University and interned with Barack Obama’s campaign many years ago.

Some of her loved ones have even wondered whether she was murdered because they simply can’t comprehend her having died from a drug overdose.

They still have so many questions regarding just what transpired the night/morning of McHenry’s passing.

“Lyric’s warmth, compassion and energy will be missed by many and the family would appreciate that all speculation surrounding the circumstances of death cease until the real facts are determined during the current investigation by the NYPD and the City of New York,” her family said the day after she died.

Considering the circumstances surrounding her death, they also fought back against chatter that McHenry was living some sort of shameful or sordid existence:

“Lyric who just turned 26 last week on August 6, was a brilliant, creative and lovely young woman who shared a deep passion for writing, film and a long-standing commitment to social justice.

“She was a Christian who grew up in Los Angeles and attended the Center for Early Education and graduated from the Marlborough School in Los Angeles.

“Lyric graduated from Stanford University in 2014 where she studied in Paris, France for a year and spoke fluent French.”

May she rest in peace.

Dolores O’Riordan: Mourned by "Devastated" Bandmates

The sudden passing of Dolores O’Riordan continues to reverberate around the music world.

As previously reported, the lead singer of veteran rock band The Cranberries died suddenly on Monday at the young age of 46.

The cause of death remains a mystery, but a few new details have emerged regarding this unfortunate piece of news.

According to O’Riordan’s longtime friend and Eleven Seven International Managing Director Dan Waite, per People Magazine, the Irish artist had left a voicemail on his phone mere hours before she died.

There was no signs of any kind at the time that the end was near.

“Dolores left me a voice message just after midnight last night stating how much she loved Bad Wolves’ version of Zombie,” said Waite of O’Riordan’s remix of The Cranberries’ 1994 hit track with the hard rock band, Bad Wolves.

He added:

“She was looking forward to seeing me in the studio and recording vocals.”

The singer was scheduled for a recording session on the day of her death.

Concluded Waite to People:

“She sounded full of life, was joking and excited to see me and my wife this week.

“The news of her passing is devastating and my thoughts are with Don her ex-husband, her children, and her mother.”

During O’Riordan’s run as the lead singer of this group, The Cranberries were responsible for eight top-20 hits, foremost among them “Linger,” “Zombie,” and “Dreams.”

Tweeted former co-musicians Noel Hogan, Mike Hogan and Fergal Lawler upon learning of her death:

“We are devastated on the passing of our friend Dolores.

“She was an extraordinary talent and we feel very privileged to have been part of her life from 1989 when we started the Cranberries.

“The world has lost a true artist today.”

O’Riordan’s publicist, meanwhile, confirmed her passing in a statement to earlier in the day.

The statement reads as follows:

“Irish and international singer Dolores O’Riordan has died suddenly in London today. She was 46 years old.

“The lead singer with the Irish band The Cranberries was in London for a short recording session.

“No further details are available at this time. Family members are devastated to hear the breaking news and have requested privacy at this very difficult time.”

The band had canceled a number of tour dates last July due to ongoing back problems for O’Riordan, but she recently assured fans she was feeling much better.

In the wake of this news, sales of The Cranberries’ album “Something Else” surged 913,350% on Amazon.

Records by the group also dominated the Top 10 list of iTunes at the moment.

It can at least be comforting to know that music fans are realizing just what kind of special artist O’Riordan was, although the circumstances could not be any sadder.

Eleven Seven Music CEO Allen Kovac, who previously managed The Cranberries, also released a statement.

“From the very first time I met Dolores, I knew she was a great talent. Managing the Cranberries and being part of making ‘Zombie’ one of the biggest records of its time was a great professional honor,” he said, concluding:

“So when Dan Waite called me suggesting a collaboration with Dolores and Bad Wolves’ on Zombie, I was excited to once again be a part of the magic she was able to create.

“My heart goes out to her children, I hope they can find some peace despite this tragic event.”

Carrie Fisher: Mourned, Remembed One Year After Death

It’s been one year since Hollywood was shaken to its core by the most tragic of news:

Carrie Fisher had passed away.

The beloved actress had fallen unconscious a couple days prior to Christmas after suffering a heart attack and finally succumbed to the after-effects on December 28, 2017.

Exactly 365 days ago today.

Immediately following her death, tributes and words of mourning poured forth from all who knew the legendary actress well.

And even from those who were just familiar with her work, such was the profound impact Fisher had on so many individuals.

Now, on the anniversary of her death, two of the most important people in Carrie’s life have spoken out once again.

First, her daughter, Billie Lourd.

“My momby had an otherworldly obsession with the northern lights, but I never got to see them with her,” Lourd wrote on social media on Wednesday.

She added:

“We journeyed to northern Norway to see if we might ‘see the heavens lift up her dark skirts and flash her dazzling privates across [our] unworthy irises.’ And she did.”

In a beautiful and simple conclusion, the young actress wrote:

“I love you times infinity.”

“In just an hour, the post reached close to 50,000 Likes, with many users expressing their love and support in the Comments section.

Then there was Mark Hamill.

The actor, who co-starred in a number of Star Wars films with Fisher and who had a special bond with the late star, took to Twitter this afternoon and wrote the following:

“No one’s ever really gone…”

He penned this caption along with the hashtags “#AlwaysWithUs” and “#CarrieOnForever” and a photo of the stars together.

This photo was itself alongside a drawing of Fisher and her beloved dog, Gary, which is … well… totally awesome.

See for yourself:

fisher finger

As many movie fans also know, director Rian Johnson recently paid tribute himself to Fisher in Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

Shortly after the credits, a dedication appears onscreen that reads: “In Loving Memory of Our Princess, Carrie Fisher.”

“I want to dedicate tonight to Carrie, who is up there right now flipping me the bird, saying, ‘Damn it, Rian, don’t you dare make this night a solemn tribute,"” the director joked at the film’s premiere earlier this month, adding simply:

“So let’s all have a blast tonight for Carrie.”

The veteran star’s cause of death was eventually revealed to be from sleep apnea and “other undetermined factors.”

May she continue to rest in peace.

Christina Grimmie: Mourned by Family, Fans One Year After Murder

It has been one year since Christina Grimmie was tragically shot to death in Orlando.

On June 11, 2016, Grimmie was signing autographs for fans backstage after a show when she was approached by a man with two guns.

The man, who was later identified as a deranged fan named Kevin James Loibl, opened fire on Grimmie once he got close enough to the singer.

He was then tackled to the ground by Christina’s brother before he could inflict any further damage before turning a gun on himself and pulling the trigger.

“Her brother is a hero for saving and stopping him from not hurting anyone else,” Orlando Sgt. Wanda Miglio said in a statement shortly after Grimmie died of her wounds in a hospital.

Grimmie had risen to fame as a contestant on The Voice, finishing in the top three on Season 6 as part of Team Adam Levine.

On June 9, her family released the studio album Grimmie was in the middle of working on at the time of her death. It’s titled “All Is Vanity” and it’s comprised of 10 songs.

This release came a few months after Grimmie’s relatives released a music video she created before she died.

“The story follows a young girl’s journey into self-discovery through her love life, her womanhood, and her music,” Grimmie’s brother, Brian, wrote on Twitter at the time, adding as a description to what you can watch below:

“Jessica is at a crossroads in her life.

“She becomes suspicious of her boyfriend and is gripped by insecurities only to realize that she is doing more damage to her own heart and future than any relationship ever could.”

Here is that music video:

In March, upon receiving the Teen Choice Award Grimmie won the summer before, Christina’s family released a statement that thanked fans for all their support.

“Your commitment to Christina’s legacy and making your voice heard online is a blessing to us,” they wrote back then.

“We also acknowledge those who supported behind the scenes to make this a reality. Thank you with love!”

Now, on the anniversary of their daughter/sister/loved one’s shocking murder, Grimmie’s family has once again reached out with a few moving words.

Their latest statement, shared on Twitter yesterday, reads as follows:

We want to take this moment to say thank you to Christina’s legion of fans worldwide and all the partners who contributed and are still contributing to her legacy.

Your prayers, love, encouragement and support have been felt by us as a family and we are humbled and deeply appreciative. We too, are still healing, but know that we love each and every one of you.

Thank you for your support!

In April, Levine paid tribute to his former protege during the The Voice when he performed the Beatles’ “Hey Jude,” telling the crowd at the time:

“God, I loved her so much.

“I am talking to you guys specifically, I’m talking to everybody. I miss her. It is unfair she is not here. We are going to sing a little song. I am going to be singing every word to her in her honor.

“Thank you for being here. Christina, we love you.”

Well said, Adam.

We continue to send our thoughts and condolences to the family of Christina Grimmie.

May she rest in peace.
