Lyric McHenry: How Did She Die? Who Moved Her Body?
We have new details on the shocking death of former E! reality star Lyric McHenry.
Just be warned:
They are horrifying to read.
McHenry, as you may recall, was found dead in mid-August at the age of 26.
Her body was discovered in the very early morning on the street in New York City, with sources saying she was only wearing underwear and a pajama top.
She was also discovered with a zip lock bag of cocaine in her possession.
McHenry was known to television viewers for her appearances on EJNYC, a spinoff of Rich Kids of Beverly Hills that centered on Magic Johnson’s son, EJ.
There was even talk that McHenry was pregnant at the time of her death.
Now, nearly three months after this tragedy, an affidavit obtained by E! News confirms that Lyric dies from an overdose of cocaine, heroin and alcohol.
This same reliable outlet also reports that a 29-year-old man named Alexis Meija-Ramirez has been arrested and charged with concealment of a human corpse and tampering with physical evidence.
Meija-Ramirez and “two other male individuals” allegedly transported McHenry’s body above the Major Deegan Expressway in the Bronx neighborhood, this document states.
Police arrived at this conclusion with the assistance of surveillance footage and witness interviews.
On October 26, Mejia-Ramirez was released from jail on a $ 1,500 bond, an official at the Bronx District Attorney’s Office has also confirmed.
McHenry’s passing took place just hours after she celebrated her 26th birthday during a night out with friends.
In videos shared on her Instagram Story, the 26-year old was at The Frederick Hotel, the Soho Grand Hotel and the Dream Hotel, smiling at various points in the footage and seemingly having a great time.
In the wake of her death, family members and friends spoke out in total shock and sadness.
They said McHenry had no history of drug use or abuse and fought back against the assumptions many had been making about the kind of person McHenry had to have been, based on the way she was found.
Said her family in a statement:
“What is factual and known is that Lyric who just turned 26 last week on August 6, was a brilliant, creative, and lovely young woman…
“She was a Christian who grew up in Los Angeles and attended the Center for Early Education…
“Lyric graduated from Stanford University in 2014. Where she studied in Paris, France for a year. And spoke fluent French…
“Lyric’s warmth, compassion, and energy will be missed by many. And the family would appreciate that all speculation surrounding the circumstances of death cease.”
EJ Johnson, who was close friends with McHenry, also issued a brief statement on Lyric. It read:
“I’m going to make this clear to everyone there will be no mourning post because I’m not going to reduce a 25yr friendship to 1 Instagram post.
“Please respect my privacy and my process.”
McHenry was laid to rest in early September.
May she rest in peace.

Lyric McHenry Laid to Rest, Mourned by Magic Johnson
About three weeks after she was found dead in the most shocking and disturbing of manners, Lyric McHenry has been laid to rest.
Details on the funeral have not been made public, but basketball legend Magic Johnson is actually the one who confirmed that a service took place on Wednesday.
Johnson was close to the late 26-year old because she was very good friends with his son, EJ.
McHenry, in fact, was known to television viewers because she made multiple appearances on the first and only season of EJNYC, a spinoff of Rich Kids of Beverly Hills that aired in 2016.
It centered on the life of EJ Johnson and his circle of acquaintances; Lyric and her sister were prominent members of this latter group.
On August 14, however, McHenry’s body was discovered in the Bronx.
She was only wearing underwear and a pajamas top — and a small bag of cocaine was found on her person.
Friends and family members issued statements of sadness and confusion shortly afterward, all stunned by this development.
It was also originally reported that McHenry was 20 weeks pregnant at the time of her death, something no one close to her appears to have been aware of.
In the wake of her funeral, this is what Magic Johnson Tweeted:
Yesterday was a difficult day as we laid to rest Lyric McHenry, a daughter to Cookie and I and best friend to EJ.
We’ve known Lyric since she was a baby and shared many lifelong memories with her and her family. We were blessed to witness her become a caring and brilliant young lady.
Her talent was special and her potential limitless.
She will be sorely missed. May she rest in peace.
The Hall of Famer’s son has only said a very little bit about losing his best friend.
Back on August 27, EJ said simply via Instagram:
“I’m going to make this clear to everyone.
“There will be no mourning post because I’m not going to reduce a 25 year friendship to one Instagram post. Please respect my privacy and my process.”
McHenry graduated from Stanford University and interned with Barack Obama’s campaign many years ago.
Some of her loved ones have even wondered whether she was murdered because they simply can’t comprehend her having died from a drug overdose.
They still have so many questions regarding just what transpired the night/morning of McHenry’s passing.
“Lyric’s warmth, compassion and energy will be missed by many and the family would appreciate that all speculation surrounding the circumstances of death cease until the real facts are determined during the current investigation by the NYPD and the City of New York,” her family said the day after she died.
Considering the circumstances surrounding her death, they also fought back against chatter that McHenry was living some sort of shameful or sordid existence:
“Lyric who just turned 26 last week on August 6, was a brilliant, creative and lovely young woman who shared a deep passion for writing, film and a long-standing commitment to social justice.
“She was a Christian who grew up in Los Angeles and attended the Center for Early Education and graduated from the Marlborough School in Los Angeles.
“Lyric graduated from Stanford University in 2014 where she studied in Paris, France for a year and spoke fluent French.”
May she rest in peace.

Lyric McHenry May Not Have Been Pregnant at Time of Death
Questions about the stunning death of former E! reality star Lyric McHenry continue to circulate.
Very early on the morning of August 14, the close friend of EJ Johnson and the woman who appeared on multiple episodes of EJNYC was found dead on a sidewalk in New York City.
She was wearing only a pajama top and underwear and, most disturbing of all, a ziplock bag with cocaine inside was also discovered on her person.
Also, according to initial reports, McHenry was 20 weeks pregnant at the time of her death.
Just awful, right?
However, it was assumed upon reading these reports, at least by us at The Hollywood Gossip, that medical tests had been run that proven McHenry was expecting a child.
Now, though, it seems as if this may not have been the case.
A family spokesperson named Edna Sims Porter tells Us Weekly that McHenry’s loved ones were unaware of any pregnancy, stating for the record:
“Lyric did not share that with the family, so we’ll all have to wait for the autopsy report.”
This quote comes on the heels of a close friend saying something similar, expressing shock that McHenry was allegedly pregnant.
Porter, meanwhile, goes on to imply (or outright say, really) that no exam was performed that proved Lyric was going to be a mother.
“I’ve seen the police report and I talked to the police about that and they said to me, ‘That was from someone that we interviewed,"” Porter explains of how this strong rumor got started.
She concludes;
“That’s one of the things we’re going to find out the details about.
“We’re all baffled because you don’t even see a baby bump. Twenty weeks, that’s five months, right? It seems like she would be showing.”
McHenry was a Stanford graduate who volunteered years ago for Barack Obama.
She also worked as a television producer.
Due to the state of her body when she was found by the police, along with the bag of cocaine of course, it has been presumed that she died of a drug overdose.
Still, we are awaiting the results of an autopsy and those close to Lyric remain puzzled by how she went from happily celebrating her birthday with friends on Monday evening…
… to ending up as she did just a few hours later in the Bronx.
Per The New York Daily News, the reality star was “found sprawled out on the sidewalk above the Major Deegan Expressway at Undercliff Ave. and Boscobel Place in Highbridge at about 5 a.m.”
McHenry made multiple cameos on EJNYC, a spinoff of Rich Kids of Beverly Hills, back in 2016.
Shortly after the terrible news of her passing went viral, her family released a statement that reads as follows:
In contrast, what is factual and known is that Lyric who just turned 26 last week on August 6, was a brilliant, creative and lovely young woman who shared a deep passion for writing, film and a long-standing commitment to social justice.
She was a Christian who grew up in Los Angeles and attended the Center for Early Education and graduated from the Marlborough School in Los Angeles.
Lyric graduated from Stanford University in 2014 where she studied in Paris, France for a year and spoke fluent French…
McHenry poses here with Michelle Obama. The late 26-year old was known for her political activism.
Lyric’s warmth, compassion and energy will be missed by many and the family would appreciate that all speculation surrounding the circumstances of death cease until the real facts are determined during the current investigation by the NYPD and the City of New York…
The Funeral Service will be held in her hometown Los Angeles at a date to be determined.
McHenry is survived by her father, producer and Director Doug McHenry, her mother Jennifer, a stylist, and her sister, Maya McHenry, who also appeared on episodes of EJNYC.
May she rest in peace.

Lyric McHenry: Could She Have Been Murdered?
When you get right down to it, there’s only one thing that really matters about the death of Lyric McHenry:
That she is dead.
We’re not being glib here and we certainly aren’t trying to make a joke.
We’re just saying that McHenry is tragically gone and no new information that comes out surrounding her passing will bring her back to her loved ones.
This said, it remains understandable while both the authorities and those who knew McHenry well would be desperate for some answers.
The 26-year old was best known in entertainment circles for having appeared on episodes of EJNYC in 2016, a Rich Kids of Beverly Hills spinoff that centered on EJ Johnson, the gay son of NBA legend Magic Johnson.
She was found dead on a sidewalk in the Bronx at 5 a.m. on Tuesday.
She was only wearing a pajama top and underwear at the time.
She had a small ziplock bag of cocaine on her person.
She was 20 weeks pregnant at the time.
These are the very disturbing facts that have come out over the past several hours, all of which have contributed to reactions of shock and sorrow from those close to Lyric.
McHenry was transported to Bronx-Lebanon hospital after her body was discovered, where she was pronounced dead a short time later.
The assumption, based on the scene described above, is that McHenry died of a drug overdose.
But the New York Police Department is waiting on an autopsy report before it makes this official and says that McHenry’s death is under investigation.
An official at Public Affairs Office told told Radar Online on Wednesday that investigators are “looking at all possibilities” in the case.
This same website quotes a friend who confirms that McHenry was out partying with her sister and other acquaintances on Monday night.
After she exited a club, she reportedly got into a car with… someone, Etienne Maurice tells Radar.
“All we know is she left in a white BMW,” Maurice says. “We don’t know who was driving that car.”
Maurice says he’s equally perplexed by why/how McHenry ended up sprawled on a sidewalk near the Major Deegan Expressway in the Bronx, someplace she had no reason to visit.
We don’t want to irresponsibily speculate on such an important topic, so we’ll just leave all this here.
We don’t feel comfortable openly wondering whether McHenry overdosed or was actually killed by this unnamed and unknown individual.
After news of Lyric’s death broke on Tuesday, Rich Kids of Beverly Hills star Dorothy Wang took to Twitter to write:
“Rest In Peace Lyric McHenry. You were an angel amongst us.”
She also clapped back against anyone who painted McHenry in a negative light, based on the circumstances surrounding her death, as did Maurice, who concluded to Radar:
“She’s a Stanford grad, she was a volunteer for the Obama campaign, she was a great spirit, and my most loyal friend.”
EJ Johnson is yet to commend on this awful news.
We continue to send our condolences to the family members, friends and loved ones of Lyric McHenry.
May she rest in peace;
Lyric McHenry Dies, Friends and Loved Ones React in Shock
The world of reality television was dealt a tragic and awful blow on Tuesday night.
Former EJNYC star Lyric McHenry was found dead in New York City, with details of her passing causing those who knew her well to react in stunned silence and/or shocked sorrow.
According to various outlets, McHenry was discovered at 5 a.m. on a sidewalk in the Bronx.
She was wearing nothing but a pajamas top and there was a small bag of cocaine on her person.
Authorities therefore suspect that McHenry died of a drug overdose.
Along with the actual narcotics found at the scene, this belief was fortified by the many Instagram photos and videos shared by McHenry and her friends late Monday night, all of which documented their night out in New York.
Here are two examples of such photos:
McHenry, her sister Maya (who also is friends with EJ Johnson and who also appeared on the aforementioned E! reality series in 2016) and some pals hit up multiple well-known Big Apple hot spots during their celebration.
Lyric was only 26 years old at the time of her death.
And, according to The New York Daily News, she was 20 weeks pregnant.
Just horrible.
Those who knew McHenry well are not taking the news of her passing well, for obvious and understandable reasons.
Dorothy Wang, who starred alongside EJ Johnson and who was close friends with McHenry, Tweeted the following after learning of Lyric’s death:
Rest In Peace Lyric McHenry. You were an angel amongst us.
Wang was a cast member on E!’s Rich Kids of Beverly Hills for four seasons and EJNYC was a one-season spinoff of this program.
Wang also called out reports about McHenry’s death that did NOT include all of her accomplishments, insiders or social media users who only focused on the overdose.
“Lyric was a Stanford graduate, scholar, activist, an intelligent, caring, friend, sister, daughter, and member of society!!!” wrote Wang.
It’s true: she also volunteered on the Obama campaign when she was 15 years old.
“Working for this campaign made my awkward stage at 15 so much doper,” wrote McHenry as a caption to the picture below, adding:
Thank you to the Obamas for inspiring us, leading with love and intellect, bringing art and artists to the White House, and also Sasha and Malia.”
Radar Online, meanwhile, writes that McHenry’s mom reacted in such hysterics upon hearing that her daughter died that she had to be hospitalized.
The 26-year-old’s mother, Jennifer, was “crying and fell to the ground and we had to catch her,” a source said about the sad situation.
This is what the New York Police Department wrote in regard to what transpired yesterday:
“On Tuesday, August 14, 2018 at approximately 0505 hours, police encountered a 26-year-old female, unconscious and unresponsive, lying on the sidewalk in the vicinity of Undercliff Avenue and Boscobel Place, within the confines of the 44 Precinct.
“There were no obvious signs of trauma observed.
“EMS responded to the location and transported the aided female to Bronx Lebanon Hospital, where she was pronounced deceased. The Medical Examiner will determine the cause of death.
“The investigation remains ongoing.”
And this is what EJ Johnson, the son of basketball legend Magic Johnson, wrote on social media on August 6 and McHenry and her impending birthday:
Happy birthday to my best friend who has strutted with my in princess gowns since day 1 @lyric_leighwords cannot express how much I love and appreciate you in my life.
Your constant love, respect and companionship gives me the confidence to live my truth every single day and I am so blessed that even as baby divas we recognized the greatness in each other.
I love you #leoseason #teamthis.
May Lyric McHenry rest in peace.

Kanye West Rants on Twitter, Defends Taylor Swift Lyric
We really thought everything was all good between Kanye West and Taylor Swift.
But then the rapper referred to the singer by a very bad word in his song "Famous" and also took credit for Taylor"s success.
Did West run this apparent diss by Swift before making it public? Yes, Kanye claims. No way, a rep for Taylor argues.
After releasing his album at a fashion show launch in New York City and being criticized for some of its content, Kanye went on the following Twitter rant that must be read to be believed…
… and appreciated!
