Doris Roberts: Mourned, Remembered by Stars Everywhere


May Doris Roberts rest in peace.


The multi-time Emmy Award winner died at the age of 90 this week, leaving behind a memorable legacy.

Doris Roberts had an energy and a spirit that amazed me. She never stopped. Whether working professionally or with her many charities, or just nurturing and mentoring a green young comic trying to make it as an actor, she did everything with such a grand love for life and people and I will miss her dearly.

She was funny and tough and loved life, living it to the fullest. Nothing gave her greater joy than her three wonderful grandchildren, of whom she was so proud. It was truly a privilege Doris. I love and miss you.

Doris Roberts Dies; Emmy-Award Winning Actress Was 90

Doris Roberts, a multi-time Emmy Award winner likely best remembered for her role on Everybody Loves Raymond, died Sunday in Los Angeles.


She was 90 years old.

Roberts, a native of St. Louis, was a 20-year veteran of Broadway before she moved on to a wildly successful career in television.


She won five Emmy Awards in total, four of them for as Marie Barone, the mother of the title character on CBS’ Everybody Loves Raymond, which featured Ray Romano.


The veteran actress also starred in a multitude of other television shows and movies, most notably National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation.


She is survived by her son Michael Cannata Jr., who she had with her first husband; Doris’ second husband, William Goyen, passed away in 1983.
