Jamie Otis and Doug Hehner: We Have GREAT News!

Jamie Otis and Doug Hehner have had pain and joy in their lives, and their fans are still keeping up with the couple throughout their highs and lows.

Jamie and Doug know that, which is why they’ve announced that they’re coming back to reality television.

This Married at First Sight couple will be getting their very own spin-off!

Married at First Sight might sound like a parody of a reality concept instead of a real show, but no, you didn’t imagine it in some satirical nightmare.

Despite the absurd premise, things worked out okay for Jamie Otis and Doug Hehner. They really hit things off.

Unfortunately, their new love was marred by tragedy when Jamie Otis miscarried at 4 months, back in July of 2016.

The couple grieved the loss of what would have been their first child.

On the one year anniversary of that tragic loss, Jamie and Doug honored their son with a memorial tree.

As we mentioned at the time, memorial trees are extremely tasteful and also allow you to watch a living thing grow and thrive.

Even before they hit that one-year mark, however, Jamie Otis and Doug Hehner announced that they were expecting.

And, back in late August, their expectations were met.

The couple welcomed Henley Grace, their firstborn daughter, into the world. A wonderful development for a couple who deserves happiness.

In a statement to Entertainment Tonight, Jamie Otis shared the couple’s latest good news:

“In our new spinoff, the joys — and struggles — as first-time parents will be out there for all the world to see.”

The Lifetime series will be called Married at First Sight: Jamie & Doug Plus One.

And Jamie explains what it’s all about.

“First of all, everyone knows giving birth is no joke, but who the heck knew the recovery would be excruciating for days?! And I’m not even talkin’ C-section.”

Some people don’t know that, true, but giving birth is agonizing, difficult, and draining. And it can leave you with serious injuries and bleeding and a lot of recovery.

As Jamie now knows firsthand:

“I could barely walk, let alone go to the bathroom!”

A lot about biology can be embarrassing. Childbirth is amazing but it has some serious downsides.

And Jamie Otis says that there’s another low that doesn’t get discussed enough:

“And breastfeeding, that’s another one that isn’t talked about (and I’m guilty as charged being a labor and delivery nurse!).”

She doesn’t get into details here, but Jamie has revealed on social media that she’s now having trouble getting Henley to nurse.

Lots of babies wean themselves when they just decide that they don’t have time for nursing anymore, but … not this young.

So we’ll see how Jamie Otis managed to tackle that.

Don’t worry, though — the series will also focus on the positive:

“But let me tell ya, there is NOTHING more amazing than looking down to a sweet face that resembles you and your hubby — and no greater feeling than knowing you created this precious being.”

Awwww! That’s so sweet!

“All of the firsts as parents is captured in our new series — and it’s quite raw.”

That sounds really exciting.

We’re looking forward to this — and to hearing what Doug Hehner considers his personal highs and lows.

We do have one nitpicky issue, and it’s with the title.

Married at First Sight: Jamie & Doug Plus One reminds us too much of the television series that brought Kate Gosselin to fame.

We don’t think that Jamie and Doug are monsters, so we hate anything that would associate them with that infamously terrible mother.

Other than that, this sounds amazing. We can’t wait to see baby Henley grow up before our very eyes!

Jamie Otis and Doug Hehner Welcome First Child!

They were Married at First Sight.

And now they’re in love at first sight…

… with their first child!

A rep for Jamie Otis and Doug Hehner has confirmed to People Magazine that the reality stars welcomed a daughter into their world on Tuesday.

The details are as follows:

  • Name: Henley Grace Hehner.

  • Born at: 5:24 a.m.

  • Weight: Eight pounds, two ounces.

  • Height: 20.2 inches.

“Mommy and baby are doing well and Daddy is in pure bliss,” this rep tells the aforementioned publication.

Shortly after this confirmation went viral, the brand new parents shared the following precious photo from their daughter’s Instagram account:

Yup. You read that correctly: Henley Grace Hehner is just a few hours old and already has an Instagram account.

“Wrapped around my daddy’s finger already. #skintoskin #daddysgirl #newborn,” read the caption to this cute image.

Jamie, meanwhile, gave People a shout-out on her own social media account, while also making the following statement as a caption to an exclusive photo from that magazine:

I’ve never been more in love.@henleygracehehner, you’re mommy’s everything. Thanks, @people for being just as excited as we are to welcome our sweet baby girl.. #MyGracieGirl #MyEverything

Jamie and Doug got married within seconds of meeting each other for the first time on the reality series Married at First Sight in 2014.

They are one of the few success stories from that series… heck, from any reality series.

Just over a year ago, they tragically lost a child to a miscarriage after Jamie was four months along.

“Our Baby Hehner was just too beautiful for earth,” Jamie wrote at the time, adding:

“I love him so much – ALWAYS will – and can’t wait to meet him in heaven one day. Please pray for us.”

They shared a heartbreaking photo at the time and were as open as they could be about what happened, with Doug writing last summer:

“There are no words to express the pain and sorrow associated with losing our baby.”

We really cannot imagine.

In April, Otis spoke to People in an exclusive interview about how excited she was to be a mother.

“I’ve always wanted to have that mother-daughter relationship that I kind of missed out on with my mom,” said the reality star, who opened up about her difficult relationship with her mother in her memoir Wifey 101.

“I secretly hoped to be a mommy to a little girl and to have a little mini me.”

We’re so very happy for Jamie and Doug!

We can’t wait to see more baby photos!

Jamie Otis and Doug Hehner Honor Son Lost to Miscarriage, One Year Later

One year ago, Jamie Otis and Doug Hehner had a tragic miscarriage four months into the pregnancy.

The Married At First Sight stars grieved and mourn and shared their loss with the world.

Now it’s a year later, and while they are excited to be expecting again, they haven’t forgotten their son who would have been, Johnathan.

We see a photo of the two of them standing by Johnathan’s memorial tree in their backyard, but it’s the heartfelt caption that really hits home for fans of the family and for those who understand their loss.

In an emotional message, punctuated by emojis, Jamie Otis took to Instagram to share how she and her husband are feeling, one year later.

“A year ago from today was our last full day pregnant with our first born son.”

Calendar dates can be wonderful for birthdays and anniversaries; for remembering a loss, they can be cruel.

“Johnathan was delivered on July 13th, 2016 at just 17 weeks, 1 day. He was way too little to survive outside the womb.”

That must have been agonizing in ways that most of us cannot even imagine.

Though we have seen Jamie and Doug in that hospital photo, seeing and feeling are different things.

“I remember feeling so helpless – there was nothing I could do to help my baby.”

That’s every parent’s nightmare.

“I swore to myself, to my hubby, to God, to my baby boy, and to ANYONE who would listen that I’d never let him just be forgotten.”

She’s really keeping that promise.

She also talks about coping mechanisms, which are important to have and also important to share with others who might need them.

“I blogged a lot to help cope with the loneliness; to numb the pain.”

No matter how loving and supportive a spouse and family might be, a miscarriage hits home in ways that most people can’t understand or provide comfort for.

“I will forever be thankful & I’ll never forget the countless Frans – and even strangers – who reached out to me to offer love & support.”

“Frans,” as in fans who are friends or like friends.

It’s cute.

And then she talks about the memorial.

“…I planned ways to honor our angel baby’s short, sweet life.”

There are a lot of ways to do that.

“One of the ways I wanted to remember him was by planting a tree for him & watching it grow.”

That will only grow more meaningful as the years go by.

“Now that we finally have our own home and our own backyard we can plant that tree. We researched and found a tree that blossoms all summer long.”

That’s absolutely beautiful.

She then invited fans and followers to join her in keeping her son’s memory alive, last night but also always.

Everybody grieves and mourns in their own way.

We’re sure that part of Jamie looks forward to the day that the hardest thing that she has to do is confront body-shamers.

It’s not for us — or anyone — to say if someone’s grieving too little or too much.

(Besides, you don’t know what’s going on internally)

But in Jamie’s case, it looks like she’s found a good balance and a healthy way to cope and to move forward with her life.

And such a sweet, tasteful way to immortalize her son’s memory.

Jamie Otis and Doug Hehner: We"re Expecting Again!!!

Jamie Otis and Doug Hehner have responded to tragedy in the most exciting and inspiring way possible:

The couple has announced it is expecting another baby!

Back in July, the Married at First sight stars revealed that Jamie had suffered a miscarriage.

Otis shared a heartbreaking message on Instagram at the time, alerting followers to this horrible piece of news. She addressed the message to the child she had lost.

“Not a day goes by that I don’t wake up thinking of you, Baby Hehner. I know I have to get back to ‘normal life’ but I just don’t know how to,” Otis wrote, sharing her thoughts alongside pictures of her with both her husband and a baby bump from just days before.

She concluded at the time:

“Today daddy and I are going to pick out a perfect name for you. We love you so much. I hope you’re bouncing on clouds and feeling loved all the way up in heaven.”

That was then, however.

And while the pain of a miscarriage will never leave Otis or Hehner, the two took to social media again yesterday to share something far more positive.

The following photo pretty much speaks for itself:

“We are PREGNANT!!! Our sweet Baby Hehner is due this August,” Otis wrote.

She went on to talk about the son they lost, whom they named Johnathan, writing:

“We love him so much and are so happy to know he’s looking down from Heaven taking care of his little sister/brother…

“PS forgive me for my unbuttoned jeans. I’m at that awkward stage where I don’t quite fill out maternity jeans but I definitely don’t fit in my regular clothes.”

LOL, Jamie.

The couple also talked to People Magazine about their pregnancy and impending child.

“Doug and I have been praying and not so patiently waiting to have our rainbow baby since we lost our first born, Johnathan Edward, in July 2016,” Otis tells the publication.

She added:

“We are feeling so blessed and truly thankful for this little miracle growing inside of me. Being a mother has been a long awaited dream of mine. It goes without saying that Doug is going to be the best daddy ever.

“We cannot wait to meet Baby Hehner this coming summer!”

We are so very happy for Jamie and Doug! They so deserve this happy news!

Join us in sending congratulations to these stars and to the other stars expecting a child in 2017:

Doug Hehner and Jamie Otis Lose Baby to Miscarriage

Doug Hehner and Jamie Otis have tragically lost their baby, five months before he or she was scheduled to enter the world.

In an emotional Instagram message, Otis broke the news to followers of the couple, who met on the reality show Married at First Sight.

“Our Baby Hehner was just too beautiful for earth,” she rote.

“I love him so much – ALWAYS will – and can’t wait to meet him in heaven one day. Please pray for us.”

Alongside this tragic confirmation, Otis shared a message that read as follows:

“An angel opened up the book of life and wrote down my baby’s birth. Then she whispered as she closed the book, ‘He’s too beautiful for earth."”

Here’s a look at that message as she posted it:

sweet tweet

Otis was due to give birth in December.

It would have been the first child for both her Hehner.

The reality star announced they were expecting, via an interview with People Magazine, just last week.

“Jamie is the strongest woman I know,” a close friend tells the publication in light of this news, adding:

“And Doug has remained her rock through everything. Their love will get them through this.”

Otis and Hehner met for the first time on their wedding day, per the rules of the aforementioned reality series.

Their unconventional relationship has since been chronicled on their spin-off program, Married at First Sight: The First Year.

They seemed legitimately in love, despite of the unusual way in which their marriage began.

“We certainly worked on the relationship, and I think when you’re in the trenches and you make it out together, you become stronger as a couple,” Hehner recently said on the Today show.

Well said.

We send them our best wishes and condolences during this difficult period.
