Manchester Attack: ISIS Claims Responsibility as Police Arrest Suspect
As you’ve likely heard by now, an Ariana Grande concert was the scene of a shocking tragedy last night, as a suicide bombing killed 22 and injured at least 59 others.
Details remain scarce as police continue to gather clues and search for survivors, but it now seems certain that the bombing was a politically motivated terrorist attack.
ISIS has claimed responsibility for the carnage, but little is known about the perpetrators at this time.
The bomber himself was killed when his explosives detonated, but police believe the attack was a coordinated effort.
It may be quite some time before a clear picture emerges of exactly how this atrocity was carried out, but authorities in Manchester revealed moments ago that they have arrested a 23-year-old suspect in connection with the attacks.
Police have not released a name or any information with regard to what role the suspect played in the bombing.
It’s the first in what is expected to be a series of arrests that will eventually lead to more information as to how thos attack was executed and how further tragedies might be prevented going forward.
Concert-goers have offered harrowing eye-witness accounts of the bombing, with many revealing they were shocked by the haphazard security at the show.
“There was this massive bang. And then everyone just went really quiet. And that’s when the screaming started,” said 25-year-old Ryan Molloy.
“As we came outside to Victoria Station there were just people all over the floor covered in blood. My partner was helping to try to stem the blood from this one person … They were pouring blood from their leg. It was just awful.”
Late last night, Ariana Grande issued a statement on the attack, reading:
“Broken. From the bottom of my heart, I am so so sorry. I don’t have words.”
The singer has suspended the remainder of her world tour indefinitely.
Sources close to Grande say she’s stunned with grief and outrage over the bombing.
We’ll have further updates on this developing story as more information becomes available.
