Mark Zuckerberg Loses $16 BILLION In One Day as Facebook Stocks Plummet!

We imagine Mark Zuckerberg spends all day poking around in our personal business and laughing at our misfortunes, so we’re relishing the opportunity to return the favor.

As you may have heard, Zuckerberg’s company — a plucky little startup called Facebook — is not having the best year.

First, there was Zuck’s testimony before Congress, which was only amusing if you watched it on mute and pretended it was an episode of Black Mirror where a robot gets put on trial for murder.

Shortly thereafter, Zuckerberg was harshly criticized for defending the rights of Holocaust deniers who use his service to propagate their batsh-t beliefs.

Marky Mark probably thought getting publicly crucified for presiding over a company that allows Russian bots to spread fake news and enables neo-Nazis to stoke the flames of racial hatred would the low point of his 2018.

And maybe it was.

But losing $ 16 billion in personal wealth as shareholders call for your head probably still stings just a bit.

Yes, it was a rough day on Wall Street, as Facebook stocks plummetted more than 20 percent, seemingly in response to the company’s recent rash of scandals and bad press.

Of course, even after losing more money in a single day than most people could spend in five lifetimes, Zuck is still worth more than $ 68 billion, so you probably won’t see him doing the Floss for nickels outside a VA hospital anytime soon.

But the loss puts him below Warren Buffett on the list of the world’s richest people, which is amusing for at least two reasons:

1. People actually like Buffett, whereas the sight of Zuckerberg causes most folks to fantasize about perpetrating a fatal wedgie, and

2. We like to imagine Buffett calling Zuck, saying, “How’s my ass taste, kid?” and promptly hanging up the phone.

Of course, it wasn’t just Facebook’s affiliations with Cambridge Analytica and the Pepe the Frog set that have stocks and profit margins plummeting.

The site’s ongoing efforts to become Snapchat for old people are also causing “unforeseen growth cessations” and other mumbo-jumbo that basically means “we might be f-cked.”

“We plan to grow and promote certain engaging experiences like Stories that currently have lower levels of monetization, and we are also giving people who use our services more choices around data privacy, which may have an impact on our revenue growth,” says CFO David Wehner.

Again, this is all relative, as Facebook’s market cap is still valued at about $ 120 billion, so your aunt Sharon’s favorite venue for sharing “wine o’clock” memes won’t be going away anytime soon.

But the important thing is that today’s news affirms the increasingly popular theory that Mark Zuckerberg is not the savior of the Western world, but just some code jockey who was in the right place at the right time.

Watch for him and fellow embodiment of the evils of late capitalism Elon Musk to announce a plan for world domination any day now.

Josh Duggar Resurfaces on Facebook, Sparks Feverish Debate Over Forgiveness

This just in:

Josh Duggar is alive and well…

… much to the annoyance and chagrin of many Facebook users.

On Wednesday afternoon, the official Duggar Facebook page shared a photo of nearly every member of this infamous family gathered at a restaurant in celebration of Jim Bob’s birthday.

As a caption, the post read as follows:

Happy birthday to a man that wears many, many hats! Jim Bob, you are an amazing husband and wonderful father. Your heart for people and the desire you have to see others come into relationship with Jesus is beautiful.

Our whole family has been blessed by you.

You have led and guided us and we are so blessed to call you “ours.” Happy birthday!!

Seems pretty straightforward, right?

Pretty much what you’d expect from this family in recognization of this kind of occasion, no?

However, it wasn’t this message or even Jim Bob turning another year older that has elicted serious debate online.

It’s the presence of the person front and center in that picture above: Josh Duggar.

Josh, of course, has been persona non grata for years now.

That’s what happens when you admit to molesting your own sisters, as Josh did in 2015; and then when you also admit to cheating on your wife.

Multiple times, we presume, considerning Duggar had an account with the infidelity website Ashley Madison.

In response to these scandals, TLC canceled the series 19 and Counting, although it has since launched a spinoff titled just Counting On.

Moreover, Josh and his wife Anna have remained pretty far out of the spotlight, sitting at home, caring for their five kids and, when it comes to Josh, trying as hard as he can to keep his hands to himself.

In light of this new photo surfacing, however, many Internet users have taken to the Comments section and engaged in a rather fiery debate over whether Duggar deserves to actually be forgiven.

josh1

Is he a “weirdo,” as someone has labeled him above?

Is he absolved of his sins because his family doesn’t hold these sins against him?

Should we let something as heinous as pedophilia go simply because it’s been talked about a lot and/or took place many years ago?

josh2

Then there’s the stance, espoused in one remark shared here, that Jesus has forgiven Josh… provided he doesn’t molest or cheat again.

Is this even how it works?

If Josh did commit these acts again and then sought forgiveness, wouldn’t these same people be saying the same thing?

Back in June, Josh made another rare social media appearance, this one by his own doing, on his own account.

He posted the following family photo in honor of his son, Marcus, turning five years old.

The comments Josh received in response to this image?

They were pretty similar to a handful of the critiques posted above.

“Josh should be castrated!” someone wrote at the time, while another added:

“Those poor little girls are at risk for being prey to their own father! The plot to cover for this monster was a very Christian thing to do!”

So… yeah.

Josh may be better served just keeping to himself for the rest of his years.

The guy may have avoided any jail time for his horrible actions as a teenager, but he’ll never be free from online castigation.

And thank goodness, right?

William Shatner Eviscerates Facebook Over Death Hoax: I Will Never Die!!

Did you see an article whose title declared that a legendary Star Trek actor had been found dead?

William Shatner is alive and kicking. In fact, Thursday was his birthday — the beloved actor is now 87 years old.

But he’s furious about fake news being spread about him, and demanding that Facebook take action.

You know how, sometimes, social media platforms experience a surge in popularity?

This is not that time for Facebook.

In fact, between new revelations that the data of 50 million users was mined to help the Trump campaign in 2016 and intense scrutiny over Russia using Facebook as a divisive weapon against the U.S. …the social media platform is not enjoying a lot of good press.

And we don’t just mean because Jim Carrey dumped his Facebook stock.

Even Snapchat, which has recently been dismissed by Kylie Jenner and blasted by Rihanna and has been massively devalued as a result, is probably thanking their lucky stars that they’re not Facebook right now.

Now, Facebook has drawn the ire of an acting legend … by sharing a death hoax advertisement.

Shatner Death Hoax Tweet 01

There is a difference between a clickbait headline, which summarizes an article or poses a question that’s designed to draw a reader’s attention, and a bold-faced lie.

Announcing that a living actor has been found dead is, at best, a hoax in extremely poor taste.

A fan tweeted at William Shatner:

“I thought you might want to know you’re dead.” Accompanying those words was a screencap of a Facebook ad.

The Star Trek actor was not amused.

Shatner Death Hoax Tweet 02

Shatner quoted the tweet, writing:

“Hey @facebook isn’t this your messenger app? What’s up with you allowing this Acocet Retail Sales ad to pass your muster? Thought you were doing something about this?”

By “doing something about this,” he of course means that Facebook has announced that they’re taking steps to combat the spread of

He got a reply to his tweet:

“Hi, I’m from Facebook. Thanks for letting us know about this. We have removed this ad and Page from Facebook.”

Shatner then quoted that tweet with a message of his own:

“”

Shatner Death Hoax Tweet 03

“Thank you. I’m not planning on dying so please continue to block those kinds of ads.”

(Honestly, the part about not planning on dying is, as the youths would say, a big mood)

Article titles are designed to be interesting and enticing, but a number of actors are continuously plagued by ads claiming that they’re dead.

Some argue that these titles are all in good fun and have no agenda beyond eliciting clicks.

Others, however, point out that these articles can send fans into a panic and can be extremely hurtful to the still-living stars themselves.

Especially when, like Shatner, they are advanced in years. The fact that this went down on Twitter on the day before his birthday cannot have been fun.

Despite his age, William Shatner has surprised many with his social media savvy.

A few years ago, he began livetweeting The 100, as he considered it the last hope of science fiction fans.

This was before the Syfy channel’s de-rebranding, when they came back with shows like Dark MatterKilljoys, and The Expanse.

Since then, of course, Star Trek: Discovery has come out, and more and more networks and streaming platforms are realizing that high-quality science fiction television is worth the sometimes hefty price.

Shatner’s legacy lives on. And so does he.

Jill Duggar Sticks It to Jim Bob, Wears Pants on Facebook

Jill Duggar is many things – a daughter, a wife, a mother, a reality star, but until recently, no one would’ve described her as a rebel.

That all changed when the world laid eyes on Jill wearing pants.

Yes, like Jinger before her, Jill has taken to flouting her family’s strict dress code by eschewing floor-length skirts in favor of the devil’s denim.

And in some ways, she’s being even bolder in her defiance than her trailblazing sister ever was.

First, fans were stunned to see Jill wearing pants while addressing a group of female students.

Now, she’s sporting Levi’s in an environment that might be even more conservative than a Christian middle school.

We’re talking, of course, about Facebook:

Yes, in a new video posted by Jill and her husband, Derick Dillard, the mother of two can be seen playing with her kids while sporting a pair of jeans.

Obviously, that’s the attire that makes the most sense for sitting on the floor, but since when do the Duggars worry about logic?

Based on the comments, fans seemed surprised but were mostly supportive of Jill’s attire.

“I get so happy every time I see one of these girls wear pants. Modesty can still be represented in something other than a skirt,” wrote fan, adding:

“I know I shouldn’t focus on that particular aspect of their attire, but…Yay for ya’ll!”

“I am glad they can wear and truly do as they please. It shows JimBob is not the control freak haters want to insist he is,” another commenter remarked.

In a way, it proves the opposite of that, since none of the women began wearing pants until they were out from under Jim Bob’s authority – but we digress.

So will the Duggar sisters be engaging in any additional acts of sartorial insurrection?

We wouldn’t count on it.

Skirts are apparently the most flexible aspect of the Duggar dress code, which was outlined by the girls in themselves in their 2014 memoir Growing Up Duggar.

“We avoid low-cut, cleavage-showing, gaping, or bare-shouldered tops; and when needed, we were an undershirt. We try to make it a habit to always cover the top of our shirt with our hand when we bend over,” the sisters wrote.

“We don’t want to play the peek-a-boo game with our neckline.”

In other words – jeans are probably about as rebellious as the Duggar sisters will be getting … for now, at least.

Jim Carrey: I"m Dumping Facebook and So Should You

You know how Facebook famously profited from Russia’s interference in the 2016 Presidential election?

Jim Carrey is apparently not happy with the idea of a social media platform allegedly being so irresponsible that it may have caused the downfall of America (if not the world!).

And he’s putting his money where his mouth is.

Jim Carrey is no stranger to using his platform to share his views, no matter how controversial they may be.

He is infamous for his anti-vaxx views, which have alienated a number of former fans who feel that they cannot in good conscience support a man whose views not only ignore scientific consensus but promote actively dangerous ideas.

(Immunocompromised children can die when people in their communities aren’t vaccinated; it’s called herd immunity. Also, even if vaccines caused autism, which they don’t, the idea that someone would rather see a child dead than autistic is bone-chillingly awful)

Unlike his anti-vaxx views, however, his latest passion may garner some positive attention.

Jim Carrey is quitting Facebook, and in a statement to CNBC, the comedian and actor explains why:

“We must encourage more oversight by the owners of these social media platforms.”

Oversight specifically into how Russia was able to influence the US Presidential election via social media.

“This easy access has to be more responsibly handled.”

It’s true that, when one person or company can buy a presence on a social media platform significant enough to influence the outcome of an election … that is troubling.

Carrey believes that he knows what the world needs:

“What we need now are activist investors to send a message that responsible oversight is needed.”

In other words, people invest money in order to make money, but he’s calling on people to invest their wealth in ways that will enrich the world rather than destroy it.

“What the world needs now is capitalism with a conscience.”

Honestly? Context aside, I have never agreed with a Jim Carrey statement so strongly in my life.

Along with a weird coloring book drawing of Mark Zuckerberg (Jim Carrey adds a lot of these to tweets; does he think that everyone makes their own memes or is he trying to start a trend?), Carrey tweeted:

“I’m dumping my @facebook stock and deleting my page because @facebook profited from Russian interference in our elections and they’re still not doing enough to stop it.”

We can’t speak to what Facebook is or is not doing to keep such a disaster from happening again. But Carrey has zero chill about this.

“I encourage all other investors who care about our future to do the same. #unfriendfacebook”

Obviously, your average Twitter user who might read such a tweet probably doesn’t own stock in Facebook, but Jim Carrey’s fame gives him a platform that is likely to reach other like-minded folks. Some of them probably do own stock.

It’s hard to tell where culpability ends sometimes.

Twitter is notoriously bad when it comes to enforcing their own terms of service. People get menacing messages from actual literal neo-nazis, respond with a curt obscenity and report the person who’s threatening them … only for Twitter to tell them that they don’t care for such obscenities.

And there’s no doubt that Russia has thousands and thousands of bot accounts for a variety of purposes (including inflating Donald Trump’s Twitter follower count).

Is Twitter blameless just because they don’t directly profit from Russian meddling?

Or is Jim Carrey just taking aim at Facebook while staying on Twitter because Twitter is a useful tool every day and Facebook stopped being cool around when Obama was first elected, and is now mostly for old people and remembering birthdays?

We’re willing to bet that Jim Carrey takes issue with the monetary element and just isn’t willing to be a part of that any longer.

Say what you will, but Jim Carrey is a man of sincerety.

Everyone on Facebook Wants to Bail Out This #MugshotBae

Move over, Jeremy Meeks.

It"s time to make room for Mirella Ponce.

Nearly three and a half years since Meeks took over the Internet as Hot Mugshot Guy, Ponce has gone ahead and taken his place as the latest alleged felon whose good looks have the Internet salivating all over its keyboard.

Arrested this week by the Fresno Police Department for possession of a loaded firearm, Ponce is believed to be a member of the Tiny Rascal Gang.

That"s a pretty big deal. She could face some major jail time.

But her mugshot photo on Facebook was shared over 4,500 times within just a few hours after it went live, as folks have made it clear that they DO want to see Ponce in handcuffs…

Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar: SLAMMED For Offering Marriage Advice on Facebook!

There are many words that are commonly associated with the Duggars on social media.

“Courtship,” “side-hug,” and “Quiverfull” are among the unusual terms that are strangely familiar to Counting On fans.

But there’s one word that might be used more often than any other in describing Jim Bob, Michelle, and their massive brood–“hypocritical.”

Yes, ever since news of the Josh Duggar sex scandals went public, the family has been accused of rampant hypocrisy on a seemingly daily basis.

And the evidence that the Duggars don’t quite practice what they preach just keeps piling up.

Obviously, their tolerance for Josh’s child molestation and marital infidelity is the most damning incident, but the Duggars have proven on countless occasions that they have no qualms about saying one thing in public and doing the exact opposite in private.

Whether it’s Jim Bob hoarding while espousing the virtues of Christian charity, or Michelle encouraging abusive parenting techniques while preaching love and compassion, the Duggars see utterly unashamed of the many inconsistencies in their belief system.

Of course, their greatest hypocrisy will always be evident in their interactions with Josh, and fans are always quick to call them out on it:

Michelle and Jim Bob posted the above photo on Facebook yesterday with a caption reading:

“Treasure your spouse! Godly husbands and wives are blessings from the Lord!

“Remember to tell them that you love them, that you are thankful for them, and that you will always have their back. It’s the little things that speak volumes!!”

Naturally, many of the family’s Facebook followers were quick to point out the irony of Duggars offering marital advice:

“Was Josh treasuring Anna when he was on Ashley Madison? The only thing worth treasuring here is your hypocrisy,” wrote one commenter.

“You support the serial adulterer, thrice married sexual predator,” remarked another.

“You no longer get to decide what ‘godly’ means and you sure as hell don’t represent god. Have several seats, hypocrites.”

The Josh-related criticism has been louder than usual in recent weeks thanks to the Duggars’ efforts to reintroduce Josh to their fans.

Insiders have even speculated that Josh might return to TV during the current season of his family’s reality show.

It’s difficult to imagine the Duggars being so brazen, but all signs seem to point in that direction.

Josh has been appearing on his parents’ social media pages more than ever lately, and many fans believe it’s part of a slow acclimation process.

Hopefully, Jim Bob and Michelle will take incidents like this as a reminder that Josh will never be welcomed by the public.

But knowing them, they’ll probably keep right on forcing the issue.

Facebook Explodes in Debate: What Color are These Shoes?!?

It"s been about two and a half years since the Internet was split in two over the color of a dress.

Was this clothing item white and gold or black and blue?

Friends turned on friends and family members turned on family members as a result of the debate. It got ugly.

Have we learned anything from that back-and-forth? Can we settle the next color-related fashion question more peacefully?

Let"s find out below, as a new debate has arisen over the following pair of Vans sneakers…

The controversy started after a Facebook user named Nicole Coulthard shared a photo of this shoe to the group Girlsmouth. “Ok girls so my friend has just sent me this asking what colour the shoe is,” she wrote. “I would say pale pink and white, but she insists its pale blue and grey. What do you girls see? Please tell me pink and white!”

Coulthard told Metro that her friend had bought the shoes a couple of weeks ago and sent a picture to her mom to show them to her. In response, the friend’s mom told her that blue suited her.’ She texted back saying they are pink, but when she looked at the pic she saw blue too. She sent it to me and I was convinced they are pink, we had a big argument as she said I only said pink because I knew she had bought pink shoes so that’s why I decided to put it up on girlsmouth.”
