Ariana Grande Speaks Out About Pete Davidson"s Manchester Bombing Joke: It Wasn"t Funny ...
Recently, the world was reminded that, many months before dating Ariana Grande, Pete Davidson made an unfortunate joke about the Manchester Bombing.
Ariana’s fans, understandably sensitive to the issue, reacted with shock.
Now, after giving it some thought, Ariana is speaking out.
In the autumn of 2017, Pete Davidson put his gallows humor on full display when speaking about Ariana Grande in stand-up.
At the time, he and Ariana were not even dating, let alone engaged.
He joked that the horrible Manchester bombing of Ariana’s concert in 2017 had been a measure of the level of Ariana’s fame.
“Britney Spears,” Pete noted for contrast. “Didn’t have a terrorist attack at her concert.”
It wasn’t terribly funny as a joke and, since Britney was doing her Vegas residency at the time, the comparison doesn’t really work, either.
But more or less everyone forgot about it … until a few days ago, when people dredged it up again now that Pete and Ariana are engaged.
A number of fans, who took the Manchester bombing very personally, were shocked.
(Keep in mind that, not only is a terrorist attack that kills multiple children serious, but a number of Ariana’s fans are too young to remember 9/11 and this may have been their first brush with non-shooting terrorism that touched them, personally)
It was one tweet by an Arianator that prompted Ariana to speak her mind on Pete’s joke.
The fan wrote: “I respect Ariana and I want her to be happy and everything, but she was just broken after the Manchester bombing.”
The fan’s tweet continues: “so I don’t know why she is still with Pete, like yeah he made that joke a while ago, but like it’s not funny, it’s just rude. This is my opinion.”
Ariana clearly gave this some thought before replying.
Ariana replied with a tweet of her own.
“This has been very tough & conflicting on my heart,” Ariana admits.
Referring to Pete, she writes that “he uses comedy to help people feel better about how f-ed up things in this world are.”
He sure does.
“We all deal w trauma differently,” Ariana admits.
She’s right. Different coping mechanisms for different folks.
“I of course didn’t find it funny,” she admits.
“it was months ago & his intention wasn’t/ is never malicious,” Ariana says. “But it was unfortunate.”
There are a few things that we should all remember.
One, Pete Davidson’s father died on 9/11. He absolutely does not think that terrorism is funny, but he uses dark humor to cope.
Two, though this was a bad joke (honestly, barely a joke), there are lines that Pete is not crossing. He’s not wishing a terrorist attack on someone else, for example. He’s not hurling slurs.
Three, somebody making a crappy joke before you ever dated is really not breakup material. Sure, you can break up for any reason, but that would be … odd.
Four, and this can be the hardest to grasp, but the way that Pete spoke before dating Ariana was directed at a more adult audience.
Now that he and Ariana are engaged, he will probably be more conscious that there are impressionable and emotional teens hanging onto his every word.
Ariana and Pete’s whirlwind romance has still caught a number of fans by surprise.
In fact, it was at Ariana’s tribute to the Manchester bombing victims that she and Pete were first spotted cozying up to each other.
Now the two are engaged, and it is understandable that some fans are still scratching their heads and trying to figure out what’s going on.
Some may even have misgivings about Ariana accepting the proposal of this man whom they barely know.
But they should remember that, though Ariana loves her Arianators, they are not literally her family. She does not actually need their permission to date or marry.
Fans should be happy to Ariana is happy.

Pete Davidson: The Manchester Bombing Was Peak of Ariana Grande"s Career!
There are many upsides to dating a comic, the most obvious of which is that even if he’s pretty much guaranteed to at least occasionally say something funny.
The downside is that if he’s a shock value-peddling, habitual line-stepping type, he might just as often say something that offends your sensibilities and/or jeopardizes your reputation.
That’s the lesson Ariana Grande is learning the hard way this week, as comments made by her new fiance, Pete Davidson, have put her in a very awkward position.
Ayo may recall, an Ariana concert in Manchester, England was the scene of a horrific tragedy when a terrorist bombing killed 23 and injured 139 others.
During a standup performance that took place just days after the bombing, Davidson joked that the incident must have led Ariana to realize just how famous she is, as “Britney Spears didn’t have a terrorist attack at her concert”.
Yep, it’s one of those jokes that’s not nearly funny enough to justify its own existence.
Clearly, Pete’s one of those comics who thinks edginess can serve as a substitute for wit.
(After all, this is a guy who named his poorly-received debut standup special SMD, an acronym for “suck my d-ck.”)
Unfortunately for Davidson, it’s harder than ever to pull that off that particular schtick these days.
Not only have modern conceptions about political correctness placed new restrictions (some necessary, some inane) on the sort of subject matter that comics can joke about, the internet has made it very difficult to
Certain masters of the form like Dave Chappelle can still leave an audience in stitches (and even spark important conversations) with material that would fall well outside of what most would consider the limits of good taste.
But Pete Davidson is no master of the form, and not surprisingly, his comments have provoked outrage and disgust from those who were personally affected by the bombing.
While the offending routine is over a year old (talk about “too soon”), Pete’s remarks resurfaced this week thanks to his high-profile romance with Ariana.
Charlotte Hodgson, whose 15-year-old daughter Olivia Campbell-Hardy was killed in the bombing — granted an interview with The Mirror this week, in which she described Davidson’s comments as “heartbreaking and outrageous” and added that the other families “will find it equally as disgusting.”
“For anyone to joke about this situation is disgusting and I think he should publicly apologize for it,” Hodgson remarked.
Astonishingly, Davidson has yet to do so.
Defenders of the comic have noted that his father was a 9/11 first responder who was died during rescue efforts.
This may have left Davidson with the idea that he’s uniquely able to joke about similar tragedies with greater sensitivity than other comics — but clearly, not everyone agrees with that self-assessment.
In somewhat related news, Ariana recently got a new tattoo honoring Pete’s fallen father.
Obviously, we’d never joke about someone honoring a fallen 9/11 hero in such a personal way — but couples with multiple relationship tattoos?
We’ll make fun of that sh-t all day.

Ariana Grande Pens Beautiful Tribute on Manchester Bombing Anniversary
Tuesday was the one year anniversary of the May 22 Manchester Arena bombing that left twenty-three people dead and hundreds wounded.
Ariana Grande had already performed a powerful trubute to the victims and her fellow survivors just two days earlier.
To mark the anniversary, she sent out a much more direct message.
Ariana tweeted from the heart, writing:
“Thinking of you all today and every day.”
Here she included a bee emoji, or beemoji. The bee is the symbol of Manchester.
“I love you with all of me.”
She is so good and so pure.
“And am sending you all of the light and warmth I have to offer on this challenging day”
There is no easy or perfect way to address a tragic terrorist bombing that left dozens of children injured or dead.
Some would just put up an image in memory of the fallen and of the shattered lives.
After all, there are situations for which words fail.
Others would pen a miniature essay, hoping that if they say enough, they can somehow live up to the gravity of the anniversary that they are mourning.
But Ariana kept her tweet short and simple. She said what she needed to say.
Besides, she had already said so much in a recent interview.
Last week, Ariana spoke to Time.
“There are so many people who have suffered such loss and pain. The processing part is going to take forever.”
Trauma can last a lifetime.
“Music is supposed to be the safest thing in the world.”
She is so sweet.
“I think that’s why it’s still so heavy on my heart every single day.”
Remember, she’s a fellow survivor of that terrible suicide bomber’s attack.
“I wish there was more that I could fix. You think with time it’ll become easier to talk about. Or you’ll make peace with it.”
We know that it might sound fake, but recovery from trauma is possible. But it takes time.
“But every day I wait for that peace to come and it’s still very painful.”
Earlier this month, Ariana and Mac Miller broke up.
That is not in any way comparable to the trauma of surviving a terrorist attack, but that has to be on her mind, too.
However … she may have a distraction from her last relationship. In the form of her new relationship.
According to People’s report, they have been able to confirm that Ariana is casually dating Pete Davidson.
Pete is part of the cast of Saturday Night Live. In fact, when he joined, he was the youngest person ever cast on SNL.
He is also frequently brought up in internet arguments about which person on SNL is the most attractive, though he, like everyone else, generally loses to Kate McKinnon.
According to the reports, Ariana and Pete’s relationship has “just started.”
And it is said that “it’s very casual.”
The two were even spotted togther at the Billboard Music Awards.
“After Ariana’s performance, they were backstage and he had his arm around her.”
Awww!
“They seemed very lovey-dovey. He was hanging out with her and her friends with his arm around her. She seemed quite smitten.”
This sounds so cute. Ariana Grande deserves good things.
We hope that she’s finding comfort on this very grim anniversary.

Ariana Grande to Become First Honorary Citizen of Manchester!
Ariana Grande was shocked to the core just a few weeks ago when terrorist, Salmen Abedi detonated a suicide bomb during the Manchester stop of her Dangerous Woman World Tour.
That bomb left 22 people dead and as much as 59 injured, but Ariana opted not to let the terrorists win by returning to the city earlier this month with a benefit concert titled One Love Manchester.
Now, it has emerged that Manchester is looking to recognize those who have made significant contributions to the city. Ariana is the first individual to be given such title.
Council leader Sir Richard Leese told the BBC: “This seems a fitting moment to update the way we recognize those who make noteworthy contributions to the life and success of our city.”
“We’ve all had cause to be incredibly proud of Manchester and the resilient and compassionate way in which the city, and all those associated with it, have responded to the terrible events of 22 May – with love and courage rather than hatred and fear.”
After initially fleeing the country to return home to be with her family, Ariana released a statement saying she would be making her way back to Manchester for a benefit concert.
“My heart, prayers and deepest condolences or with the victims of the Manchester Attack and their loved ones,” Grande writes to open her new message, adding: “There is nothing I or anyone can do to take away the pain you are feeling or to make this better.
“However, I extend my hand and heart and everything I possibly can give to you and yours, should you want or need my help in any way.”
Have a look at the full statement below.
Grande stuck to her word and arranged a concert in a matter of days that included stars such as Miley Cyrus, Justin Bieber, and Katy Perry. In turn, she helped raise a lot of money for the victims of the attack.
If anything, the whole incident proved that Ariana is a brave young woman who fights for what she believes in.
Ariana has since resumed her world tour, but got a bee tattoo in honor of the city of Manchester.
If anyone deserves to be made an honorary citizen, it’s Ariana.

Ariana Grande Gets Manchester Bee Tattoo In Honor of Manchester
Ariana Grande is one of the bravest 23-year-olds out there.
Despite a devastating terror attack on the Manchester stop of her Dangerous Woman World Tour which killed 22 people and left 59 injured, the star made a triumphant return to the city just days after to hold a benefit concert that in order to raise money for The Red Cross.
That pot of money raised was earmarked for the victims of the atrocity that occurred on May 22. It was a great gesture from the young star, who managed to get the likes of Katy Perry, Justin Bieber and The Black Eyed Peas to perform at the benefit.
She even managed to get the concert together in a relatively small timeframe, and people have been admiring her bravery ever since the attack.
With the benefit concert over and Ariana resuming her tour, that does not mean she’s in a hurry to forget the fans who were caught up in the attack.
ET Online has confirmed that Grande got a new tattoo backstage at the concert and let’s just say it was a great way to honor the city of Manchester.
She opted for the tattoo of a bee, which is actually the symbol of Manchester. Members of the star’s team are also said to have gotten the tattoo, but it’s unclear at this stage if any of the other celebrities opted for one.
Ariana had originally postponed some of her tour dates in the wake of the tragedy, but she resumed her tour on Wednesday night in Paris.
Mac Miller was with her, and the pair collaborated on one song, so at least we know their relationship is moving along swimmingly.
Nowadays, “One Last Time” has become the star’s most important song.
It was the final song she performed the night of the Manchester attack and fans subsequently tried to push the song to number one on the charts as a way of honoring the people were hurt during the attack.
Ariana even released it as a charity single last week, with a significant portion of the proceeds going to the British Red Cross.
Fans joined in to sing along with her during her rendition of the song in Paris.
What do you think of Ariana getting the tattoo?

Selena Gomez Praises Justin Bieber"s Manchester Performance: It Was Beautiful!
It’s been just two days since the One Love Manchester benefit concert that Ariana Grande set up in the wake of the horrifying terrorist attack on Manchester.
Celebrities such as Justin Bieber, Katy Perry and The Black Eyed Peas made their way to the event to sing to the people of Manchester.
It resulted in some beautiful performances, but Justin Bieber’s set was up there as one of the ones that tugged at the heart strings.
He went with acoustic performances of “Cold Water” and “Love Yourself.”
Selene Gomez even thought Justin’s performance was awesome and hit up SiriusXM’s The Morning Mash Up to speak about her thoughts on it.
“I thought Justin did great,” the 24-year-old said. “It was really beautiful.”
As you are probably well aware, Bieber and Gomez are not exactly on the best of terms. After dating on and off from 2011 to 2014, the couple not been very friendly.
Things went into overdrive last year when Justin’s then-girlfriend, Sofia Richie was being trashed all over social media because, well, fans did not like her.
It was horrible, but Selena became embroiled in all of it when she made a comment about Justin putting up pictures of Sofia and basically told him to keep her off social media, and there would be no issue.
Justin has never been one to hold back, and apparently fired back claims that she used him for attention and actually cheated on him multiple times.
It was horrid, but it showed just how much the warring former flames despised one another. Selena later issued an apology for getting involved, but it’s not exactly the type of thing you would just brush under the rug.
Anyway.
How will Justin reply to Selena this time around? Will he continue to blame her for using his fame to get her further? We have no idea.
On the same radio show, Selena also took a moment to praise the brave everyone else and Ariana Grande for arranging the concert so quickly after such a despicable act of terror.
“Everyone did such a beautiful job. It was so gorgeous. I loved how [Grande] ended it,” Gomez said.
What do you think about all of this?

Little Mix: SLAMMED for "Half-Naked" One Love Manchester Outfits
Little Mix has run into a little problem.
The group took part in One Love Manchester on Sunday night, an impressive event organized by Ariana Grande two weeks after a suicide bomber killed 22 fans at a concert she performed inside Manchester Arena.
The show raised over $ 2 million for families of those who died in this attack, along with the victims who suffered injuries as the result the detonated nail bomb.
Grande was introduced to open the fundraiser… performed duets on multiple occasions with such big names as Miley Cyrus and The Black Eyed Peas… and then closed the concert with a moving performance.
Justin Bieber gave an emotional speech about God, while Katy Perry received praise for her simple rendition of “Part of Me” and Cyrus performed a track titled “Inspired.”
On a whole, the event was VERY well received.
Except when it came to Little Mix; specifically, to the outfits the four women who comprised this group wore on stage.
Despite the somber tone of the event (which was also held just one day after three terrorists killed seven civilians in London), Perrie Edwards, Jesy Nelson, Jade Thirlwall and Leigh-Anne Pinnock stormed the stage at the Emirates Old Trafford Cricket Ground in some rather revealing ensembles.
Three of the singer (Edwards, Nelson and Thirlwall) rocked fish net stockings and leotards.
Pinnock basically only wore a bra on top.
Tweeted one viewer upon watching the group perform:
“Who picked Little Mix’s outfits? Put you’re asses away you are at a charity gig!”
And this critic was far from alone.
Grande wore a long sweatshirt for the occasion. Miley didn’t Twerk. Perry didn’t wear any blue wigs.
All the featured musicians appeared to tone down their acts for the unique event, well aware of their surroundings and the 22 people whose memory they were honoring through song.
This is why Little Mix sticking to its usual sexy theme and risque wardrobe stood out to such a degree… and this is why so many Twitters users reacted to their performance with disgust.
To wit:
Not everyone shared this point of view, however.
At least one individual pointed to the hypocrisy of celebrating freedom, only to slam singers who chose to express it via their fashion selections.
“everyone tearing little mix down for their outfits, thought the whole point was being empowered & free in the face of terror? #LittleMix,” reasoned this person.
Added another, somewhat echoing this sentiment, but mostly choosing to focus on the bigger picture:
“@LittleMix performed last night to raise money for a gd cause. If u care more abt their outfits, it says more abt u than it does about them.”
Check out the full Little Mix performance below and then weigh in with your thoughts:
Also, click around below for a look at who else performed, what they sang, what they dressed like and why this event has garnered so much praise:
