Jade Roper Responds to Breastfeeding Photo Backlash

Fun fact: not all Bachelor in Paradise romances lead to disaster. Every now and then, a couple emerges and they stay together. In fact, Jade Roper and Tanner Tolbert got engaged, got married, and then Jade and Tanner welcomed their first child!

Jade Roper recently shared a precious breastfeeding photo and got slammed for it.

Now that the dust has settled, she’s speaking out.

it started with this photo and the accompanying caption:

“Mommy PSA! Nursing Emmy has been one of the most amazing experiences of my life (I adore these after feeding snuggles, too).”

It’s not just a source of nutrition — it can be an incredible period of bonding.

“It’s so incredible how our bodies transform during and post-pregnancy. But all nursing mommies out there know how difficult finding a good, functional nursing bra can be!”

Well, here comes the product placement.

“@thirdlove has created a comfortable, practical and beautiful nursing bra that FITS! You go on their site and take a quick fit finder quiz and they ship the bras straight to your door.”

But at least she offers a promo code.

“Even better they offer a 100% fit guarantee! They have a wide range of styles and sizes for every woman. (I also got a beautiful lace bra). Use my code JADE15 for 15% off your first order! #mythirdlove”

As precious as the picture, snapped right after she was breastfeeding her adorable baby, was … she got some backlash, and took to her Instagram story to address it.

“So, I had some comments about the picture I posted of me and Emerson after I was breastfeeding and people telling me they don’t look like that when they breastfeed and that I was setting up a standard that’s impossible to live up to.”

She did look super nice in that photo.

“The truth about that picture is I had a photo shoot the day before and I hadn’t taken my makeup off, so that’s literally the day before’s makeup.”

She shouldn’t have to explain why she had the gall to look nice in a photo … but that definitely explains it.

“And it was slightly staged — we positioned Emerson just right to make the picture [work], but that was literally right after I had fed her and she had fallen asleep on me and we do have those moments where we snuggle so I don’t get what’s so unreal about it.”

Any photo that isn’t a candid is slightly staged.

She clarifies that her real life is a good deal messier.

“People were telling me I shouldn’t cover up. I was actually getting flack for putting a cover over my baby which I just don’t understand why that would be something people would give me s–t about.”

You can cover up your boob or you can leave it exposed, folks. That’s your right as a human being. One person’s campaign to go topless should not be read as a mandate for another to cover up.

“And my baby is feeding right now and I’m still going to cover up because that’s what I feel the most comfortable with. I feel like I don’t need to share all of that with the world, that’s not the message. It’s just that women should be able to do what they feel like they need to do for their babies.”

Exactly! She can cover up or not. Again, her choice.

“And my baby is feeding right now and I’m still going to cover up because that’s what I feel the most comfortable with. I feel like I don’t need to share all of that with the world, that’s not the message. It’s just that women should be able to do what they feel like they need to do for their babies.”

It turns out that her reply to the backlash was well-received, because she posted again — with this throwback pic.

“You guuuuys, thank you so much for all the support I’ve received about my Instagram stories earlier. It truly, truly means so much to me and I tried to read every kind and empowering message from each of you.”

“I was very emotional earlier. and I think it’s because my nursing relationship with Emmy is one of my most favorite mommy experiences (even though it’s had its ups and downs, because it’s an ever changing experience).”

“Thank you for letting me be myself and express how much I love being a mom and thank you for letting me express myself when I feel like I’m failing as a mom (or failing others) or I feel unsure of myself.”

She finishes that photo’s caption with:

“All the moms out there that support each other, you’re the best. *This is my favorite post-feeding picture of Emmy and me, I can’t believe she used to be this little."”

It’s a shame that she got backlash for looking her best for a photo. Famous people don’t owe you the nitty gritty messiness of human existence.

It’s also a shame that people give her a hard time for covering up. That is every bit as bad as giving a woman a hard time for not covering up. What’s liberating for one woman can be horrifying for another.

If she had to get criticized for something, you’d think that it would have been for posting what looked like a sponsored post without following FTC guidelines on the #ad hashtag.

Jade Roper and Tanner Tolbert Welcome First Child!

This Just In:

Not all sex on Bachelor in Paradise leads to production shutdowns and accusations of misconduct.

For Jade Roper and Tanner Tolbert, in fact, intercourse has led to the exact opposite of controversy: it has led to a baby!

The Bachelor in Paradise alums, who got engaged on Season 2 of the ABC reality series back in 2015, welcomed a girl into the world on August 17.

She was born at 10:03 a.m., according to E! News, which broke this exciting piece of news.

“She’s here, our little sweetheart! Tanner and I are very proud to announce the arrival of our baby girl this Thursday morning,” Jade said in a statement, adding:

“There’s truly no words to describe the feeling holding you in our arms for the first time and looking into your eyes. We love you, precious girl.”

The couple also shared the following photo on Instagram of them and their bundle of joy:

According to a representative for Roper and Tolbert, their daughter weighed in at six pounds., 8.8 oz. and measured 20 inches long at birth. She is doing “great so far.”

The pair exchanged vows in a televised ceremony that aired on Valentine’s Day of last year and discussed starting a family almost from the start.

They announced Jade was pregnant in March via a series of adorable images on social media.

“We’re crazy grateful to finally announce a little secret we’ve been keeping,” Jade wrote on Twitter at the time.

“We’re absolutely head over heels in love already!”

Prior to learning the gender in May, Tanner admitted he had his heart set on one of the two possibilities.

“I’m hoping for a boy,” the 30-year old ex-Bachelorette contestant told People Magazine.

“Not that I don’t want a girl, I actually want one of each. It’s just, I’m going to make her keep trying until we have a boy, so I’d like to get it out of the way sooner.”

Jade and Tanner are among numerous Bachelor Nation couples who met on the franchise, married and had kids.

The Bachelorette season one’s Trista Rehn Sutter and Ryan Sutter share two children, as do season seven’s Ashley Hebert Rosenbaum and J.P. Rosenbaum.

The Bachelor season 17’s Sean Lowe and Catherine Giudice Lowe are parents to a boy.

Then there are Bachelor in Paradise season three stars Carly Waddell and Evan Bass, who got married this June and announced earlier this month they’re expecting their first child.

Congrats all around!

Jade Roper Rips Nick Viall For Liz Sandoz One-Night Stand

While The Bachelor spoilers have told us plenty about the coming season, the biggest drama so far is playing out on the air, and online:

Jade Roper Tolbert is “disappointed” with The Bachelor’s Nick Viall and his handling of a one-night stand with her maid of honor a year ago.

How so? This may require a bit of an explanation …

The background on Nick Viall and Liz Sandoz:

A contestant on Chris Soules’ season of The Bachelor, Jade made it to the hometown dates stage of the season before being eliminated.

She went on to find true love soon after, however, when she married Tanner Tolbert, a Bachelorette star she met on Bachelor in Paradise.

Nick, a two-time Bachelorette finalist and franchise mainstay, scored an invite to the wedding … then evidently scored with Jade’s MOH.

Now the star of The Bachelor, Nick met 30 eligible ladies on Monday’s premiere, one of whom was Liz, obviously cast by the producers.

Really gotta hand it to the show for that stunt.

Viall immediately recognized contestant Elizabeth “Liz” Sandoz, but when the two first came face-to-face, he couldn’t quite place why.

Then he remembered Jade and Tanner Tolbert’s January 2016 wedding, which ended with Nick and Liz getting it on after the reception.

Sources say he asked for her phone number after their steamy night together, but the maid of honor refused … only to regret that later.

Whether she truly regretted it or just sensed an opportunity after he was picked as ABC’s newest leading man is the subject of debate.

In any case, she threw her hat in the ring for another shot with Viall, who questioned her motives for being on The Bachelor season premiere.

Their exchange was the highlight of a dramatic night for viewers, and from the looks of it, Nick was far from pleased with the whole thing.

Nevertheless, he gave her the final rose that night.

As for Jade’s take on what happened?

“She had talked to me about it before she went on [the show], and I kind of tried to prep her for it and I’m proud of her for doing it,” she said.

I feel like it’s really brave. She really did have an interest in Nick and she went there to see if there was anything and I totally support her.”

“I’ve heard a little bit [about what happened] and I know the whole situation is awkward, but I’ll say I’m a little disappointed,” Jade added.

“He could’ve gotten her number, too.”

According to Jade, talk of Nick being shot down by Liz is not the real story, or at least the whole story. Says the former Playboy model:

“She didn’t really think about him till a couple months later … [Liz] tried to invite him to charity events, but he rejected [her invitations].”

In a blog post earlier this week, Nick addressed his surprise reunion with Sandoz, which he says he never saw coming for a second:

“When she stepped out of the limo I was in utter shock.”

According to Nick, “I had absolutely no idea that she was planning on coming, and I hadn’t spoken with her in about nine months.”

“I was eager to speak with her and had a ton of questions.”

As to why she got the rose, despite his suspicions?

“The night of Jade and Tanner’s wedding was great, and this was a girl that I was once intrigued by when we first met.”

“I also considered the fact that Liz must have been very nervous and I wanted to give her the benefit of the doubt.”

And so he did. Liz will court Nick for at least another week.

Says the controversial leading man of his rose recipient:

“I wanted to at least have the chance to finish that conversation with Liz before I made any drastic decisions regarding our relationship.”

Sounds fair and reasonable. Of course, it was only week one.

Between Vanessa Grimaldi, Raven Gates, Corinne Olympios and Rachel Lindsay, Liz has her work cut out for her, through no fault of her own.

Here’s a look at all the women competing for his heart …

Jade Roper Reveals Teenage Rape: Read Her Message

Jade Roper has taken to Instagram in order to open up about the most personal and harrowing of experiences:

She was raped as a teenager.

The former reality star – who advanced to the final four on The Bachelor last year and who then appeared on Bachelor in Paradise – wrote Monday night that she was inspired to come forward after watching Lady Gaga’s performance at the 2016 Oscars.

In the telecast’s most moving moment, the artist sang “Til It Happens to You” while surrounded by victims of sexual assault.

“I’ve been trying for hours to think of what to say here, typing and back spacing,” Roper started her social media post by writing.

She then found the courage.

“To be honest, I’m terrified. Yet, this is something I felt was put on my heart to write and to share and after all these years allow myself to be free of something I felt had to hide.

“Lady GaGa’s performance was powerful and really moved me…Hopefully sharing my story can help others as much as it is helping me heal. Much love.”

Roper, who got married to Tanner Tolbert in a ceremony that aired on ABC this past Valentine’s Day, proceeded to offer a few details.

“I was raped just shy of my 17th birthday. My high school years were very hard for me, I had a lot of problems at home; and the way I tried to be normal and forget about my life was to party with my friends.”

She continued:

“It has been a long road to healing for me. There’s still a long way to go. I am not chained to this experience, it doesn’t have to control my life. I am unafraid of the feedback anymore.

“This happened to me and it matters. I matter. And I am worthy of love.”

Yes, you are, Jade.

Roper concluded as follows:

The Lady Gaga performance gave me the courage to speak about my story, a story that’s been trapped inside me for over 12 years. I hope that sharing my experience will help girls and women know that they are not alone.

And that you have to voice things in order for things to change. And always always always: You matter.
