Shane Dawson, Wildly Popular YouTube Star, Apologizes for Pedophilia Joke

You know what?

We’re starting to think these YouTube personalities only care about making money…

In the wake of Logan Paul being whacked in the wallet by this platform after he shared a video of a dead body on his account, Shane Dawson has now come out and issued an apology of his own.

Like Paul, Dawson is well known for having a popular YouTube account and for posting basically anything and everything on there.

He has over 11 million subscribers.

On Wednesday evening, however, a YouTube channel named “Pop Blast” posted footage to its 677,000 fans titled “I think Shane Dawson is a pedophile. Here’s my proof.”

Cue a troubling clip in which Dawson is heard making quips about a “sexy” child.

When followers started to voice their outrage at the star’s words, the YouTuber chose to respond with his own video, opening the 14-minute reply by sharing the controversial quotes in question.

“I went to Google and I didn’t want to see child porn,” says Dawson in the scandalous footage.

He continues:

“I just wanted to see, let me pretend I’m a pedophile for a second. So I typed in naked baby. First of all, I don’t understand why anybody would be turned on by that.

“But, they were sexy. I’m kidding.”

Few, though, found this attempt at a joke to be funny.

In his response, Dawson explained why he played it again for everyone.

“I wanted to play that clip in full – that moment especially in full – just for context because that seems to be missing nowadays,” he says in the video below, adding:

“I can’t believe I’m having this make this video. I’m going to start by saying I’m not a f-cking pedophile. I go on record saying I am not a f-cking pedophile. Got it? Great. There’s my statement.

“It’s disgusting that people are saying I’m a f-cking pedophile because of some s—ty ass f-cking jokes from six years ago on a podcast.”

Despite clearly being pissed that he’s in this situation, Dawson did acknowledge the misguided language he chose to use in the original clip.

“I’m going to apologize first. I’m sorry that I used to make really s—ty f–king jokes,” he said on Wednesday, going on as follows:

“I’m sorry that I was so f-cking insecure and playing this character of this guy who’s crazy and will say anything and tries to make people laugh by shocking them. That was my thing. That is what I did on YouTube.

“Back in the day, 2008-2012ish, that was my thing. I loved the feeling of making somebody shocked and laugh because they couldn’t believe what was coming out of my mouth.

“I wasn’t confident enough to make smarter jokes. I was making the easy jokes…I was doing some f-cked up comedy stuff that I’m not proud of.”

Dawson proceeded to remind fans that he, himself, has been molested and has evolved significantly over the years as a content creator.

He concluded:

“I think that’s why it hurts the most is having my name put next to the word pedophile is actually the most triggering and the most heartbreaking thing I’ve literally ever seen.

“I’ve been called everything. I’ve been on YouTube for a long time.

“I’m so sorry if that triggered you or offended you or hurt your feelings. It triggers me listening to that.”

In the end?

“I’m sorry for making offensive jokes. I’m sorry that these are making people uncomfortable but it’s also very out of context. When you listen to the full thing, it’s still s—ty and creepy and bad jokes but it’s not me being a pedophile.

“This is not proof of me being a pedophile.”

He probably has a point.

But still: perhaps fewer people ought to admire and support these random people who have nothing to offer the world except lots of attention-seeking videos.

Mischa Barton Apologizes for Wildly Inappropriate Instagram Post

Mischa Barton is not perfect, people.

Anyone who watched her performance as Marissa Cooper on The OC is well aware of this fact.

But the actress (former actress?) has taken to Instagram in order to drive this point home in the form of an apology.

Barton came under major fire this week when she addressed the sad situation of Alton Sterling being shot dead by police in Louisiana.

The tragic incident took place on Tuesday.

Based on the video (below), it certainly appears as if Sterling had already been detained by officers and placed on the ground at the time these cops opened fire, ending his life on the spot.

Take a look at the disturbing footage for yourself:

In response to the seemingly senseless death, Barton wrote the following on her social media account:

I’m truly heart broken to watch videos like the #altonsterling execution.

This may have been going on forever in the United States but thank god the pigs get caught on camera now. Its unthinkable and an embarrassment to America. The country I was brought up in.

Somebody make change. We need gun control and unity. And a real President so think about that when this election is around the corner. The world is a precarious place right now.#stop #reflect and #act appropriately.

It’s hard to take issue with any of these words, right?

So, what was the problem with Barton’s post?

She included the following photo along with it:

Mischa Alton Yacht

Somehow, it did not occur to Barton that an image of her relaxing in a bikini on board a yacht might not be the most appropriate setting in which one ought to touch on the topic of racial injustice.

After deleting the photo, yet still receiving a great deal of backlash, Barton shared the following Mea Culpa on her Instagram account today:

“I’m human, I’m not perfect, and I’m sorry if my Instagram post went out of context. I didn’t mean to offend anyone.”

We can’t say we’re big fans of the I’m not perfect defense, but whatever. It’s better than no apology at all, right?

In the wake of Sterling’s death, along with subsequent shooting of Philando Castile, many stars have sent messages of pain, anger and hope on social media.

HERE IS WHAT BEYONCE SAID.

HERE IS WHAT TYGA WROTE.

And here’s a rundown of those who have been outspoken on the topic of inequality in America:

Vanderpump Rules Season 4 Premiere: Kristen Doute is Still a Wildly Unstable Human

Vanderpump Rules is back, and wilder than ever, as the Season 4 premiere saw Lisa attempt to lay down the law and prove that anyone can be replaced.

Can they, though?

If you watch Vanderpump Rules online, you know that Lisa’s attractive, yet rag tag band of staffers have become quasi-celebrities in their own right.

She’s still the boss, of course, and the show doesn’t work without her calling the shots. Vanderpump Rules Season 4 Episode 1 was no exception.

Setting out to take SUR to a whole new echelon, LVP pointed out everybody’s bad behavior, from wine tossing to simply not working enough shifts.

Unquestionably the biggest time bomb of all is James Kennedy’s relationship with Kristen Doute, which is apparently impacting his DJ job at PUMP.

Not only that, we saw her get pissed at him for telling Jax about her bond with Carmen, while he didn’t like her “mothering” him at Scheana‘s birthday.

Speaking of which, she crashed that party, and if Vanderpump Rules has taught us anything, it’s that Scheana takes two things very, very seriously:

  1. Celebrating all things Scheana

  2. Not liking Kristen Doute at all

You could imagine fair Scheana Marie reaction – her fake eyelashes nearly popped off – when Kristen showed up in a cleavage-baring mini-dress.

Not only did she crash the party, she ignored the theme, then proceeded to be awkward, even by Kristen standards, to just about everyone there.

Incredibly, no punches were thrown.

Jax Taylor, meanwhile, was recovering from third nose surgery, which probably turn out to be about as noticeable and necessary as the first two.

His mother is in town, too, and the biggest plot twist there is that she seems like a nice lady. How Jax became a train wreck sociopath is not clear.

Katie Maloney reminded fans that Tom Schwartz has six months left to propose, which is teased in the previews, though it could be more misdirection.

The Toms – Schwartz and Tom Sandoval – remain the cast members who are impossible not to like, no matter how absurdly or annoyingly they behave.

Their girlfriends play a big role in that as well. Between Katie and Ariana Madix, Tom and Tom lucked into a couple of (relatively) grounded relationships.

Not only do they express real emotions (Schwartz is working on it, at least), but both duos actually – dare we say – seem to enjoy being together?

Dreams really do come true.
