Charles Kinsey: Unarmed Therapist Shot By North Miami Cops

He was just trying to help one of his patients.

On July 18th, behavioral therapist Charles Kinsey found himself on the ground, begging North Miami police officers not to shoot.

Kinsey was trying to convince one of his patients, a 23-year-old autistic man to come back to a group home.  A witness called 911, claiming the incident was a suicide attempt, and one person involved was armed with a gun.

Kinsey positioned himself on his back with his hands up in the air, begging police not to shoot his patient.

"All he has is a toy truck," Kinsey shouted. "I am a behavior therapist at a group home."

But he was still shot, and the North Miami police department claims that one of their cops accidentally shot Kinsey when they were aiming for his patient.

"This wasn"t a mistake in the sense that the officer shot the wrong guy or he thought that Kinsey was the bad guy," John Rivera, President of the Dade County Police Benevolent Association, told reporters during a July 21st press conference.

"The movement of the white individual made it look like he was going to discharge a fire arm into Mr. Kinsey and the officer discharged trying to strike and stop the white man and unfortunately, he missed the white male and shot Mr. Kinsey by accident."

Kinsey spoke to WSVN about the ordeal, shocked that he was shot even though he was unarmed and complying with officers.

“I still get my hands in the air,” Kinsey recalled from his hospital bed, “and I said, ‘I just got shot.’

"I’m standing there like, ‘Sir, why did you shoot me?’ and his words to me was, ‘I don’t know."”

"I was more worried about him than myself," Kinsey went on, referring to his patient..

"As long as I"ve got my hands up, they"re not gonna shoot me, that"s what I"m thinking," Kinsey said. "Wow, was I wrong."

Peter Thiel RNC Speech: I"m Proud to Be a Gay Republican!

The 2016 Republican National Convention wrapped up last night, and for obvious reasons, Donald Trump’s nomination acceptance speech (and his daughter Ivanka’s memorable introduction) are grabbing the majority of this morning’s headlines.

But just hours before the elder Trump’s lengthy address, another speaker made history and stirred up controversy with a speech that may well be discussed and dissected for years to come.

Silicon Valley tycoon Peter Thiel made his billions as a co-founder of PayPal and board member of Facebook.

Recently he made headlines after it was revealed that he bankrolled Hulk Hogan’s lawsuit against Gawker as part of his efforts to bring the online gossip network down.

Thiel admits he was motivated by a desire for revenge on Gawker for outing him as gay in a 2007 article.

Last night, Thiel became the first openly gay speaker to take the stage at the RNC.

Interestingly, he did so in one of the most high-profile time slots of the entire convention:

“Every American has a unique identity. I am proud to be gay,” Thiel said to applause from the conservative crowd.

“I am proud to be a Republican, but most of all I am proud to be an American.”

With regard to the party’s apparent insensitivity toward many of the issues faced by the LGBTQ community, Thiel says they only serve to compromise party unity and divert attention from more important issues.

“This is a distraction from our real problems. Who cares?” Thiel said.

“I don’t pretend to agree with every plank of our party platform.”

Obviously, millions of gay men and women disagree, and many took to social media to express their displeasure with Thiel’s speech.

Many of Thiel’s comments seemed especially tone deaf in the context of Trump’s later address, which many feel verged on hate speech at times.

But whatever your feelings about Thiel and his views, there’s no denying that his speech served its purpose – to get people talking, and send the message that this isn’t your father’s GOP.

Jared Kushner: Who Is Ivanka Trump"s Husband?

He’s remained largely behind the scenes while his father-in-law attempts to become the next president of the United States of America.

But who, pray tell, is the man married to Ivanka Trump?

Kushner, 35, is a real estate developer, investor and publisher of The New York Observer, which he purchased in 2006 for $ 10 million.

He took over as CEO of his father Charles’ business, Kushner Companies in 2008 because the elder Kushner was sentence to two years in prison.

The crime?  “Tax evasion, illegal campaign donations and witness tampering,” according to Heavy.com.

Kusher and Trump married in 2009 and have three children together – Arabella, 5, Joseph, who turns 2 in October and Theodore, born in March of this year.

And while he’s acting as an unofficial advisor to Trump (the Republican nominee), Kushner reportedly donated over $ 100,000 to Democratic Party campaigns over a period of 20+ years.

Ivanka recently praised her husband for being an exemplary family man.

“Jared is really incredibly hands on as a dad,” she told People Magazine.

“For him what’s most important is his family. So we work really hard during the week and we really prioritize weekends for just being sort of reconnecting as a family.

“It’s very seldom that we’ll have a commitment on a Saturday or a Sunday. It’s really about us being together.”

Earlier this month, Kushner published a piece in the Observer refuting claims that his father-in-law was anti-semitic (Ivana converted to Judaism for her husband when they married).

The difference between me and the journalists and Twitter throngs who find it so convenient to dismiss my father in law is simple. I know him and they don’t,” Kusher wrote.

“It doesn’t take a ton of courage to join a mob. It’s actually the easiest thing to do. What’s a little harder is to weigh carefully a person’s actions over the course of a long and exceptionally distinguished career,” he continued.

“The best lesson I have learned from watching this election from the front row is that we are all better off when we challenge what we believe to be truths and seek the people who disagree with us to try and understand their point of view.”
