Teen Mom 2 Season Premiere Recap: Diving Into New Beginnings

MTV’s other fab four are back and Monday’s premiere of Teen Mom 2 Season 8 caught up with the lives of Leah, Jenelle, Chelsea and Kailyn.

In reality, the premiere took us behind the scenes of events most fans know the general details of long before we watch Teen Mom 2 online.

For example, Jenelle Evans’ assault trial, in which she stood accused of attacking Nathan Griffith’s girlfriend, Jessica Henry, was featured.

Furious that Jessi wouldn’t drop the assault charges, Evans was determined to prevail in court on Teen Mom 2 Season 8 Episode 1.

As Nathan and Jessi testified about the alleged assault, they insisted she was volatile and shouldn’t have custody of her son with Nathan.

Jenelle’s lawyer insinuated that those two came looking for a fight the day alleged assault took place, and are using it to punish Evans.

On the witness stand, the tearful reality star said she never meant to throw a glass at Jessica Henry, only to splash her with water from it.

The jury bought it. Jenelle was declared not guilty!

Meanwhile, Kailyn Lowry was still confused about her future with Javi Marroquin, so she did the only natural thing and went skydiving.

So of course, she did what any rational person confused about their relationship would do and went skydiving. Yeah. We’re serious.

Call it a “quarter-life crisis” or something like that.

After talking things over with a friend, she realized she couldn’t make any decisions about the future of her marriage until Javi got back.

These two may not be great communicators, but his deployment did not help matters during their entire marital breakdown, that’s for sure.

At this point, we all know how it played out: Javi and Kailyn are divorcing, he’s dating Cassie Bucka, and Kail is throwing shade online.

Standard. They’re doing alright for the kids though.

Chelsea Houska, for her part, discussed how Adam Lind quit Teen Mom 2, no longer speaks to her, and won’t have any part of her life.

Lind, allegedly, refused to allow an MTV crew in his house because he was “napping,” even though they told him when they were coming.

Adam whined that they never film him being a good dad, and producers asked why he never told them about stuff he does with Aubree.

He shouldn’t have to, he says. Chelsea could do it, or they should just know. Only Adam Lind could say this stuff with a straight face.

Fortunately for Chelsea, she has plenty to smile about.

Between planning her wedding to Cole DeBoer, and telling Aubree she’s going to be a big sister, her life is really happy these days.

Even more impressive? She says she’s valuing privacy more and more as she gets older and wanted the wedding to not be so public.

In West Virginia, Leah Messer was … stressed.

Like beyond. Even as relations with ex-husbands Corey Simms and Jeremy Calvert improve for her, the mom of three has a lot on her plate.

When she couldn’t find her keys and ran late getting her twin girl to their T-ball game as a result, Leah had a bona fide freak out (above).

Leah suffered what appeared to be a panic attack and railed against the way the “stuff with the show” made it hard to keep her cool.

Is that a symptom or the cause, though?

She insisted that situations only get chaotic when Teen Mom 2 is filming, and knowing she’ll be on TV looking stressed is … well, stressful!

The Bachelor Season Premiere Recap: Jumping the Shark Costume

It’s that time again, THGers and Bachelor Nation.

The Bachelor Season 21 is underway, starring none other than the all-too-familiar (and controversial) franchise pass-around Nick Viall.

While The Bachelor spoilers offer some detailed hints about the outcome of this season, Monday’s premiere offered our first TV glimpse …

Following back-to-back runner-up finishes on The Bachelorette in 2014 and 2015, and a stint in Paradise in 2016, Nick is back yet again.

Seeing him in the starring role for the first time may please Bachelor Nation … or not. But either way, it will get people talking for sure.

Is the fourth time the charm? Can he emerge from The Bachelor with his (mostly) rejuvenated reputation intact – and will he find love?

We can’t speak to that, but as we said, the OUTCOME OF THE ENTIRE THREE-MONTH SEASON is available by following the link above.

Hey, you don’t really know who Nick picks and if spoilers are right until the finale, right? And it makes the whole thing more fun to watch.

Anyway, whether you’re a Bachelor spoilers junkie or not, proceed for the recap of Monday’s premiere and an analysis of Nick’s options …

Even Nick can’t believe he’s really doing this again as The Bachelor Season 21 Episode 1 begins with the obligatory flashback filler.

The obligatory shower montage was followed by his sister – and former stars Chris Soules, Sean Lowe and Ben Higgins – giving advice.

At least we know that this contrived nonsense is somewhat authentic by the razzing Sean and Chris give Nick, because how can you not.

Anyway, getting down to the main event:

Rachel Lindsay is the first woman out of the limo, and you know the beautiful African-American attorney didn’t receive that honor by accident.

Josephine, meanwhile, brought Nick a hot dog and asks him to “lady and the tramp it.” These intros are getting weirder by the season.

Another early entrant, Corinne Olympios, is already being built up as the gorgeous model who rubs everybody the wrong way in the mansion.

Except Nick. She will rub him right. Oooh.

Sarah wore sneakers and ran up to Nick so he wouldn’t feel like the only “runner-up” this year, for the best Nick “in” joke of the night.

Alexis came out of the limo dressed up as a shark, which she either believes is a dolphin or claims to in order to get maximum air time.

Time will tell whether that strategy worked.

Perhaps most compellingly, Liz Sandoz, who was Bachelor alum Jade Roper’s maid of honor at her wedding to Tanner Tolbert, is here.

Obviously, Nick railed Liz at the wedding, then never called her, and wasn’t aware she was cast on his season of the show until now.

That’s as hilariously awkward as it gets.

After a chat with Chris Harrison, Nick remembers Liz, and isn’t thrilled that she pulled this stunt instead of just getting his digits from Jade.

In an over-the-top production stunt, Jasmine brought Neil Lane with her to make her limo entrance, which likely gave Nick some PTSD.

Vanessa Grimaldi, for her part, caught Nick’s eye from the beginning, both for obvious reasons and for the fact that she’s so multilingual.

After the limo intros, there’s the first impression rose on the line, and the tension is rising as a number of ladies know they have a chance.

Others, meanwhile, are likely out the door.

Corinne then cemented her status as the Bachelor contestant all the other girls make voodoo dolls of when she stole Nick away for a kiss.

All the women obviously freaked out over this, but Nick did not give her the first impression rose as she was all but certain he would do.

Who did he bestow it upon instead?

Rachel, the first out of the limo. Aww.

He likes her “aura” and other things. Already, we’re starting to see some big contenders emerge, and she’s clearly one of them.

On the flip side, we’ve forgotten about half of their names. Not a good sign for that half of the field of 30 women who arrived.

Before we get to the Rose Ceremony, there was some unfinished business between Nick and Liz, who he eventually confronted.

She was pleasantly surprised that he remembered her. Nick was … unpleasantly surprised that Liz was surprised about this.

Nick never said that he was intimate with her; Liz was the one who kept repeating that. No making love to Andi Dorfman redux.

Liz insisted she wasn’t there for the notoriety, but Nick hit back with the ultimate dig, questioning if she came on this for the “right reasons.”

Would she survive the elimination portion of the night?

All we know is that Alexis, still in her shark costume, has already won. And she got a rose, which could not have been more deserved.

Not including Rachel, here’s a list of Who’s In …

Vanessa, Danielle L., Christen, Astrid, Corinne, Elizabeth, Jasmine G., Raven, Kristina, Danielle M., Sarah, Josephine, Lacey, Taylor, Alexis, Hailey, Whitney, Dominique, Jaimi, Brittany and Liz …

… and Who’s Out:

Olivia, Angela, Lauren, Briana, Ida Marie, Jasmine B., Michelle and Susannah.

Sister Wives Star Comes Out as Gay, Thanks Fans for Support

Someone named Mariah made huge news over the weekend.

And, no, we’re not referring to Mariah Carey, despite that singer’s humiliating New Year’s Eve Performance early Sunday morning.

Instead, we’re referring to Mariah Brown, the 21-year old daughter of Kody and Meri Brown.

She shocked both her family and Sister Wives viewers on Sunday night when she uttered two simple words in front of her parents and other loved ones:

I’m gay.

A reality star coming out as homosexual would be a pretty big deal no matter what.

We’d write about it under almost any circumstance.

But the Browns align themselves with Fundamentalist Mormonism, a religion that does not approve of homosexuality in any shape or form.

Considering that Kody and Meri thought their only daughter would be telling them about a  courtship or engagement, or maybe a college transfer, both mother and father were stunned.

So were sister wives Janelle, Christine and Robyn, who were also in the room when Mariah revealed her sexuality.

“This feels so awkward,” Mariah said in front of her family, clearly nervous. “I’m freaking out.”

After finally telling everyone that she was gay, Mariah waited for a reply.

She got none initially from Meri or Kody, but other members of her large family asked “Are you serious?” and “Are you really?”

“Yeah,” Mariah simply said in response.

And there’s where Sunday night’s episode concluded, of course, although previews for next week’s installment make it clear that Mariah’s announcement will have a severe repercussions.

“I did not see it coming… I thought I knew my daughter, I didn’t,” cries Meri at one point.

You can watch Sister Wives online to see the entire awkward scene play out and you can view the following video for a sneak peek at it:

Back in 2013, the family sat down for a HuffPost Live interview and said that everyone should be able “structure” their family “in any way they want,” whether they are gay or straight.

This is one way in which they seem to go against their religion.

Moreover, how much can Meri really say against her daughter?

It may be hard for her to throw stones when she’s residing in her own glass house.

Rumors of a divorce from Kody continues to reverberate around the Internet, as Mariah’s news came after the Browns were rocked in October when Meri herself made headlines:

She admitted that she had been tricked into an online relationship with a woman whom she thought was a man.

Yikes!

Since this scandal, the reality stars have been working on repairing their family, but it hasn’t been easy.

Kody and Meri even entered therapy to deal with the emotional fallout of the latter’s catfishing incident.

Will their daughter’s announcement now bring the Browns together?

Hopefully. But hopefully in unity, not in angst or anger against their loved ones.

Sister Wives airs Sundays at 8/7c on TLC and Mariah has been fortunate enough to receive a great deal of support from her social media followers.

“wow okay y’all making me cry with your support. thank you thank you thank you thank you,” she Tweeted on Monday, adding two smiley face emojis and a picture of a rainbow flag:

Let’s just pray that her parents are as supportive as total strangers have been.
