Brad Pitt has finally seen his children.
The actor reportedly went weeks apart from his six kids after Angelina Jolie filed for divorce on September 19.
That filing took place days after an incident on board a private jet, one in which Pitt allegedly got into a verbal and possibly physical confrontation with 15-year old son Maddox.
According to various reports, Pitt was drunk at the time and the incident was enough to prompt Jolie’s shocking divorce decision.
The FBI was even called in to investigate, although it appears as if nothing significant has turned up and that Pitt is off the hook when it comes to any sort of child abuse charge.
But he and Angelina have still reached a temporary settlement that awards primary custody to Jolie and which entails Pitt only being able to see his children under the supervision of a professional.
According to In Touch Weekly, this first meeting (with a therapist on hand) was very “emotional.”
The actor played with his kids, drawing pictures and talking to them as much as he could, although he could barely hold it together as he did so.
“Once the kids came in, [Pitt] lit up,” an insider tells the aforementioned tabloid, adding:
“He had tears in his eyes and tried to hold it together because he didn’t want them to get upset because he was crying. The visit was gut-wrenching: Vivienne, 8, and Zahara, 11, both started crying, asking when they could go home.”
Home, in this case, meant Pitt’s compound in Los Angeles’ Los Feliz neighborhood.
It really is a sad situation all around.
It’s easy to make jokes or send Jennifer Aniston memes, but six kids are at the center of this split.
It goes way beyond the personal lives of two A-List movie stars.
The 52-year-old reportedly told his kids that they could soon visit him at his home. They just need to be a little patient.
Pitt also emphasized to the children that “the situation with the social workers absolutely wasn’t their fault and that no one was in trouble,” the source says.
While this sounds calm and reasonable and is absolutely the right thing for Pitt to tell his offspring, insiders reveal to Hollywood Life that things are about to get far uglier between Pitt and Jolie.
Look for Pitt to fight Jolie on custody, seeking sole custody for himself.
We feel his pain and we understand where he’s coming from, but it’s very challenging for a father to wrestle full custody of his kids from their mother… unless something dramatic has happened involving her, such as drugs or abuse or something of that nature.
By most accounts, the opposite situation is at play here.
Pitt and Jolie’s temporary settlement agreement expires on October 20.
At that point, it could be extended to another date or both sides could go to court and start to argue their cases in front of a judge.
We shudder to think what secrets could get exposed at that point; not for ourselves, necessarily, as a messy divorce and subsequent drawn-out battle over children is great for a celebrity gossip website.
We can’t lie about that.
But we care far more about the six kids than we do about the potential for juicy stories.
We’d love to see Angelina and Brad work out the terms of their legal split in a peaceful manner.
With each passing day and each passing rumor, however, the odds of this happening grow smaller and smaller.
