As you’ve surely heard by now, Kanye West was hospitalized yesterday after suffering an emotional breakdown.
And, well, it’s been a long time coming.
Kanye’s been going off a lot lately, even more than usual — over the weekend, things got so bad for him that he even slammed his former close friends, Beyonce and Jay Z, in front of thousands during a concert.
On Monday, he canceled his tour altogether, so when, a few hours after that, we heard that cops had taken him to UCLA Medical Center for a psychiatric evaluation, we sadly weren’t very surprised.
Originally, the word was that Kanye was simply exhausted, so exhausted that the people around him at the time resorted to calling police.
He was taken by ambulance to the hospital, he was handcuffed to the gurney on the way — everyone was told that it was all very normal.
His rep even made a statement that “He’s a notorious workaholic,” so touring plus working on his fashion lines, “it really wore him out.”
But, as time goes on, it’s becoming clear that there’s a little more going on here than just good old-fashioned exhaustion.
It turns out that Kanye’s doctor was actually the one who called 911, and he did so because Kanye was suffering from “temporary psychosis.
The doctor told police that Kanye wasn’t violent yet, but that he would probably get violent once police showed up.
The police report also stated that, according to Kanye’s doctor, he had tried to assault someone at the gym he was visiting when all this began.
Kanye may or may not be on a 5150 psychiatric hold right now, but we do know that the situation is so serious that Kim Kardashian canceled her first planned appearance since her robbery to be with him.
And now, we’re learning more about what led to Kanye’s breakdown.
According to a source that spoke with People, Kanye “feels like he’s under spiritual attack, and has been for a while.”
“It’s not just the big things; it’s smaller, quieter things, internal things. You might think it’s about Kim’s robbery, and while that didn’t help, it’s not what’s going on here. He’s dealing with a lot more subtle issues.”
So it sounds like we were right in thinking this wasn’t just a simple case of exhaustion, huh?
The insider does on to say that “His mother died in November, so this time of year always brings him a lot of pain.”
And that’s understandable — nine years ago this month, Kanye’s beloved mother, Donda, passed away from plastic surgery complications. She was just 58 years old.
“He keeps that pain internalized,” the source says, “but sometimes will talk about how hard this time of year is for him. He works through the pain every November.”
“He feels like it’s a trying time for his spirit, but that can be a good thing. He isn’t one to run away from these things. He leans in and listens, and comes away a stronger, better man.”
“But it hurts him; his spirit is vexed. But that’s where growth comes from.”
According to this source, “Sometimes, darkness creeps in, and Kanye wrestles against it. He talks about that a lot.”
“It’s exhausting, and it takes everything he’s got. He’s just so tired now; he’s very low energy and feels like there’s a grieving in his spirit.”
“It’s very hard to explain, but something has happened recently, where he’s not the ‘Ye that everyone knows.”
It sounds like Kanye could use prayers and well wishes now more than ever.
