Bad news for the Duggars …
But let’s be real for a minute, has there been any other kind of news for this family for the past couple of years?
Back in May of 2015 — and this is surely seared into your memory at this point, but let’s just stick with this — the whole entire world found out that Josh had molested five young girls when he was a teenager.
Of course, four of those girls were his little sisters.
As if that scandal wasn’t bad enough, just a few months later, we learned that Josh had made himself a secret Ashley Madison profile with the intent to cheat on his poor wife, Anna Duggar.
Josh was shipped off to spend several months in some sketchy faith-based rehab center, 19 Kids and Counting was canceled because no one could bear to look at Jim Bob, Michelle, and their worst kid anymore.
It was all very intense.
But now, just a year and a half later, the Duggars have gone and found themselves right smack in the middle of another sex scandal.
What is it with these people?
This time, the perpetrator in question isn’t an actual family member, but still, way too close for comfort.
See, Jim Bob and Michelle, what with all those kids that they insist on homeschooling, have this tutor, Tabitha Paine. Tabitha lives with the Duggars, because goodness knows all that book learnin’ takes time.
Tabitha recently got engaged to a man named Timothy Robertson, and the Duggars were sweet enough to throw the couple an engagement party at their home.
But — you’ll never guess how this is about to pan out — it turns out that Timothy, the man who’s undoubtedly been around the Duggar kids — is actually a great big ol’ creep.
He was convicted of criminal sexual conduct in the third degree in 2000. Gross.
If you’re unclear about what “criminal sexual conduct in the third degree” entails, well, just let Timothy’s mama spell it out for you.
His mother spoke with In Touch, and she said that “When these young peple party and drink they do silly, stupid stuff!”
“A whole bunch of ‘em was drinking that day,” she explained. “They was drinking all day long and it was just a big mess.”
Unfortunately, it turned out to be a bigger mess for Timothy, who pled guilty and was given a three-year suspended sentence. He was also put on probation and ordered to pay just under one thousand dollars for his crime.
Several years after his conviction, he was pardoned. But being pardoned doesn’t mean it didn’t happen.
Timothy himself says that his crime “is something that happened in my past.” He also claims he was “falsely accused.”
“My past has been cleaned,” he says. “I love my fiancee. And I think the Duggars are a fabulous family. That’s all I need to put out there.”
Obviously this whole mess isn’t the Duggars’ fault, but it’s just interesting that people like this keep finding their way into the family, isn’t it?
On the bright side, hey, maybe Josh will finally find himself a friend in this jackass!
