After informing fans last week that she was well past her due date, Jessa Duggar revealed today that she has welcomed her second child!
Though she shared regular pregnancy updates with fans, Jessa provided no information with regard to the child’s gender, and she still hasn’t given us any clues about a name.
The Duggars guessed that Jessa would have a girl, and most fans seemed to feel the same.
We can now reveal, however, that Jessa has welcomed a second baby boy into the world.
“We are so happy to announce the arrival of our sweet second son,” she and husband Ben Seewald told People magazine in a statement issued moments ago.
“He was born at 4:26 a.m. this morning, weighing 8 lbs. and 11 oz. and measuring 21 3/4 in. long.”
They added:
“Mom and baby are both doing well. We are so thankful to God for this precious new gift of life and are excited to be a family of four! Thanks to everyone for your prayers and well wishes!”
Jessa gave birth to her first child, a boy with the unusual name of Spurgeon, back in November of 2015.
Today, they say Spurgeon is thrilled to be welcoming a little brother.
“We are overjoyed to announce that Spurgeon has a new title in life as ‘big brother!’ We are so thankful that God is adding to our family.”
In a previous statement (that led many fans to believe Jessa may be having twins) the Seewalds talked about how excited Spurgeon was about his expanding family:
“2017 is shaping up to be a wonderful year already, and we know Spurgeon will do a great job in his new role,” Jessa said.
“Having Spurgeon has been such a wonderful blessing, and we cannot wait to see the face of this sweet new baby (or babies!).”
Jill’s generation is certainly doing its part to maintain the Duggars’ reputation as a remarkably fertile family, as sister Jill Duggar is currently expecting her second child.
Jessa and Ben have talked adoption in the past, and it’s safe to say they’ll continue adding to their brood.
As for their second kid’s name, Jessa and Ben have been tight-lipped so far.
It’s possible that they haven’t selected one yet, as they say that with Spurgeon, they chose to “meet him” and get to know his personality before they settled on an appropriate moniker.
It could be a while before we find out his younger brother’s name – but you can bet it will be something that’s a bit off the beaten path.
