As we reported last week, Leah Messer’s sister, Victoria Messer, has filed for divorce from her husband of less than two years, Brian Jones.
Of course, Leah is no stranger to failed marriages herself, so who better to drown your sorrows with on a boozy road trip?
Yes, the Hot Messers (as we affectionately call them) decided to pull a Thelma & Louise (with less murder and suicide, we hope) and shake off their man problems by hitting the highway.
Leah and Victoria wound up in Nashville, where they watched hockey (it seems Leah’s hopped on the Predators bandwagon) and took some shots on goal of their own.
The “shots” here, of course, being Fireball, and the “goal” being the girls’ beleaguered livers.
It may seem like a harmless enough jaunt for a couple of moms who have had a rough year.
(Victoria gave birth to her first child just a few months before calling it off with Brian, and well, just about every year is a tough one for Leah.)
But while it feels like eons ago, due to the speed with which new storylines arise and are resolved on Teen Mom 2, the issue of Leah’s struggle with substance abuse is still a cause of deep concern for many fans.
Leah checked into rehab and appears to have kicked the prescription painkiller addiction that threatened her life, but her sobriety is still in an extremely fragile state.
After all, it was less than two years ago that TM2 featured the frightening sight of Leah dozing off while holding a baby, an image that remains indelibly etched on the minds of many viewers.
It’s true that alcohol wasn’t Leah’s drug of choice, but we don’t think there’s an addiction counselor on the planet who would give a client the okay to go on a bender when she’s barely two years out of rehab.
Anyone who watches the news nowadays knows that the current opioid epidemic is one of the worst public health crises of recent years, and few states have been as heavily-affected as Leah’s West Virginia.
It’s a shame that she’s chosen not to address her addiction publicly in hopes of discouraging her many young fans from going down a similar path.
But the least she could do is not glamorize getting effed-up so soon after what was nothing less than a brush with death,
