Lorde is Really Sorry for Saying THIS About Taylor Swift

Good Lorde?

Not in this case, no.

Speaking to The Guardian in promotion of her album, the young Australian was asked about her very good friend, Taylor Swift.

And she made a pretty odd comparison when talking about their close friendship.

“It’s like having a friend with very specific allergies,” Lorde said. “There are certain places you can’t go together. Certain things you can’t do.”

If she had stopped there, Lorde would have been okay.

All she’s really saying here is that Swift is very famous and is even involved in various celebrity feuds (we’re looking at you, Katy Perry and Kim Kardashian), limiting what one can do with her when going out.

You need to avoid certain plans, as Lorde says very simply above.

But the artist did not stop there. She added another line to her explanation.

“There are these different sets of considerations within the friendship. It’s like having a friend with an autoimmune disease,” she said, sticking her talented foot directly into her mouth.

There are countless types of autoimmune diseases.

They affect millions of people around the world and many of these people might not love their sometimes-grave condition being minimized by such a comparison as the one Swift makes here.

Not being able to go to a certain club with your very rich and famous friend really is nothing like having a serious illness.

Specifically, however, Lorde was called out by Internet users because Selena Gomez has Lupus. And this is an autoimmune disease.

Some were left to wonder whether Lorde was purposely taking a swipe at another close friend of Swift’s, although she swears this wasn’t her intention.

In response to a Twitter user citing Selena and then referring to Lorde’s remark as an “ignorant analogy,” the singer came right out and apologized.

“i fucked up & that was really insensitive. i’m sorry,” she wrote online last night.

Lorde and Swift have been close friends for a long time, with Swift throwing Lorde a 20th star-studded birthday party in November.

That occasion actually marked one of the few public appearances Taylor made late last year, following her spat with Kardashian over the summer and her decision to step away from the spotlight.

“Had the best birthday party I’ve ever had tonight surrounded by my nyc family,” wrote Lorde shortly after the shindig, adding at the time:

“all organised by tay who is as she says ‘a mom with no kids’. i am ur kid and u love me so hard i could burst. here’s to our 3 magic years of best friendship and more moments like this squished between angels.”

Ahead of the party, Swift wrote a moving tribute to her friend, which she shared on Instagram.

It read as follows:

Thank you for the music you make, the advice you give, the thoughts you provoke, and the way you’ve made my life more beautiful since the first day we met up in New York and ate burgers on a park bench and got attacked by squirrels.

I. Love. You. So. Much.

Lorde, who previously said she isn’t “good” at being famous, also told The Guardian that she’s thankful Swift and other pals are in her life.

This is why:

“It’s an element of wanting to stick together.

“Because it can be so scary to do this. These friendships, they’re about having a hand put on your shoulder by someone who knows. They’re about hearing, ‘I’ve done it, too.’”
