Smoke Dawg Shot Dead in Toronto; Rapper Was 21
We have another tragedy from the world of music.
Two weeks after XXXTentacion was shot dead in Miami, another young rapper has also lost life in violent fashion.
According to Entertainment Tonight Canada, Smoke Dawg was murdered in Toronto this weekend, with graphic images of the artist’s corpse having allegedly made their way on to social media.
Out of respect for the dead, we are not going to share them here.
Smoke Dawg was only 21 years old.
On Saturday morning, a verified police account on Twitter confirmed that one male victim was pronounced dead in the entertainment district of this Canadian rapper.
But it stopped short of identifying the victim as Smoke Dawg.
However, local news outlet CP24 reports that three people – two men and a woman – were shot in broad daylight in the incident, which quickly devolved into chaos outside of the Cube Nightclub.
All three victimr were rushed to the hospital and one was later pronounced dead.
To be clear, once again, authorities have NOT yet confirmed the deceased to be Smoke Dawg.
Drake, though, paid tribute to his fellow Canadian artist via the above photo and message on his Instagram Story today.
“All these gifts and blessed souls and inner lights being extinguished lately is devastating,” the 31-year-old “God’s Plan” star wrote, adding:
“I wish peace would wash over our city.
“So much talent and so many stories we never get to see play out. Rest up Smoke.”
Smoke Dawg opened for Drake on the latter’s Boy Meets World European tour.
Elsewhere, an artist who goes by the name Mustafa the Poet also took to Twitter to pay his respects.
“The worst day of my life, I somehow keep finding a new worst,” he wrote adding, “Smokey is gone, may our prayers follow him to heaven.”
Police have said that the shooting took place just before 8 p.m. in the popular area outside Cube nightclub and that the “suspects may have fled in black SUV or white car.”
According to local news CP24, “gunfire erupted in broad daylight on one of the busiest streets in the city Saturday evening.”
Smoke Dawg, of Trinidadian, Jamaican and Somalian heritage, was part of an up and coming group of rappers called Halal Gang.
The rapper rose to success with hit track Still three years ago, and later collaborated with American hip hop artist French Montana and the UK’s Skepta.
May he rest in peace.

Bella Thorne: F--k the Haters, Dawg!
Don’t you just love Bella Thorne?
If so, then yay, welcome to the right side of history! If not, then please get it together and come back when you understand literally anything about anything.
She’s just so good, isn’t she? So fun and funny and talented, and obviously she’s got to be one of most attractive people of all time.
And now, thanks to this new interview she did with Maxim, we’re learning new things about Bella.
For instance, did you know that she’s not afraid to use the word “dawg” in 2016?
The hilarious word came up when Bella was talking about her social media accounts: namely about the way the internet brings out the absolute worst in people.
She gets a whole lot of hate on her social media pages, about things like her unabashedly sexy photos, her crassness, the way she’s so open and honest about every single thing … you know, the things that make her her.
“I used to be upset when I would see the comments,” she reveals. “But I’ve started to realize that they may be going out of their way to make people feel bad about themselves because they have their own insecurities.”
“Sometimes I just want to say, ‘F-ck ‘em, get off my socials, dawg.”
OK, everyone be sure to throw that into regular conversation immediately.
Your mom embarrasses you on Facebook? “Get off my socials, dawg.”
Some stranger tries to ruin your good time on Twitter with unnecessarily rude comments about your profile pic or your general opinions? “Get off my socials, dawg.”
Bella Thorne is a gift to humanity, and we must be so thankful.
“There’s always somebody that tells me to change,” she continues, “but my fan base likes me because I’m a regular teenage girl, and if you don’t like it, don’t follow.”
Noted, girl, but also not even remotely a problem.
Bella also theorizes that perhaps she’s so quick to share a racy selfie or to use some cusses because of — what else?! — her Disney roots.
Yes, in case you forgot or just weren’t aware, Bella starred on a Disney show called Shake It Up! She and Zendaya played two girls who dreamed of being professional dancers.
And yes, it was just as magical as it sounds.
About the show, which debuted in 2010, Bella says “I just wanted to please everybody.”
“I wanted to be what everyone else wanted me to be: the funniest, the prettiest, the most interesting, the one with the sweetest voice, all that sh-t.”
Bella’s obviously broken out of that Disney box in a big way — but she’s definitely still pleasing most everybody.
And thank goodness for that.

Traffic Reporter Pays Unexpected Tribute to Phife Dawg
As previously reported, Phife Dawg passed away this week at the age of 45.
The world of music remains in mourning over the loss of the A Tribe Called Quest founder, but the impact of his death extends to some places you might not have expected.
Like to Atlanta news station WSB-TV.
In the following video, we see reporters Mark Arum and Fred Blankenship pay impressive tribute to the late rapper by brilliantly inserting lyrics into their traffic reports.
"This rush hour couple of more hits than the Braves or the Yankees," says Arum at the outset of the footage.
He goes on to references more of Phife Dawg"s memorably beloeved verses as he checks in with a reporter in the WSB Radio SkyCopter:
"Mark McKay, are things ludicrously speedy or infectious with the slo mo?" he asks.
On Wednesday, after learning of Phife Dawg"s passing, Arum took to Facebook and wrote the following:
"I am stunned. And shook. Most times I have to do a mic check I quote my man Phife: "Microphone Check, 1,2, what is this? The five-foot assassin with the roughneck business!" #RIPPhifeDawg."
Pretty cool, huh?

Phife Dawg Dies; A Tribe Called Quest Rapper Was 45
Phife Dawg – the rapper best known for his work with legendary hip hop crew A Tribe Called Quest – has passed away at the age of 45.
No cause of death has been given, but the iconic emcee had been battling various health issues in recent years, most of them stemming from his lifelong struggle with diabetes.
The news of his passing was verified by DJ Statik Selektah on Twitter late last night.
“Confirmed. Rest in peace Phife. Man. I’m out,” Selektah tweeted around 2:30. Within minutes Phife became a worldwide trending topic on Twitter.
Known for his inimitable delivery and wildly witty rhymes, Phife – real name Malik Taylor – helped Tribe become one of the most critically and commercially successful hip hop acts of the late ’80s and early ’90s.
Often referred to as the Five Foot Assassin due to his diminutive stature, Phife appeared on all five of Tribe’s studio album, his gruff voice and gritty style always providing a sonically compelling contrast to Q-Tip’s more mellow vocals.
After undergoing a kidney transplant in 2008, Phife often spoke openly about his increasingly severe health issues.
“I’m in a good spot, but I have my good days and my bad days,” he recently told Rolling Stone.
Social media tributes to the late legend have been pouring in from family, friends, and the many, many rappers he influenced.
