Delilah Mourns Son’s Suicide in Emotional Tribute: My Heart is Struggling to Beat

Beloved radio host Delilah is speaking out about the loss of her son, Zachariah, who tragically took his own life earlier this month.

Delilah says her “heart is struggling to continue to beat” after the death of her child, who succumbed to a battle with depression.

The 57-year-old posted a number of childhood photos of her late son, along with a poem by Mary Jean Irion, in his memory.

She writes, “Normal day, let me be aware of the treasure you are. Let me learn from you, love you, bless you before you depart.”

“Let me not pass you by in quest of some rare and perfect tomorrow. Let me hold you while I may, for it may not always be so.”

“One day I shall dig my nails into the earth,” she adds.

“Or bury my face in the pillow, or stretch myself taut, or raise my hands to the sky and want, more than all the world, your return.”

“There will not be another ‘normal day’ with my Zack-Attack, at least not in this life time,” Delilah wrote in her emotional post.

“No more cooking his favorite foods or bringing home gallons of his favorite juice, no more laughter around the bonfire or Christmas mornings.”

“My heart is struggling to continue to beat.”

“Thank you for your prayers, love and support. Please pray for his grandparents, his siblings, his dad and his friends,” she added.

“We are all doing our best to focus on his joyful heart, his wild free spirit and his smile,” she concluded, still reeling from the pain.

Fans first learned of Delilah’s son’s suicide after she shared the sad news with her friends and fans on Facebook on October 7.

She wrote that he was “being treated, counseled, and embraced fiercely by family and friends while battling depression for some time now.”

My heart is broken beyond repair and I can not fathom how to go on… but I have to believe he is at peace with the Lord.”

She hopes “that God will get us through.”

Delilah revealed that Zachariah left a suicide note behind, though she did not reveal its specific contents for obvious reasons.

The “Queen of Sappy Love Songs” also announced that she would be taking some time away from work in light of all this.

“I will be absent from the radio and on social media for a time as I grieve and try to process this loss with my family,” she said.

“Please pray for my beloved Zacky, and I will pray for all suffering from this debilitating disease called depression.”

Delilah

Delilah’s radio show, simply known as Delilah, based in the Pacific Northwest, regularly reaches more than eight million listeners.

It’s unclear when that will resume.

Sadly, Zachariah isn’t the first child the mother of 13 – yes, she has 13 children, 10 of whom are adopted – has lost already.

One of her adopted sons, Sammy, tragically passed away back in 2012 from complications from sickle-cell anemia.

On her Facebook page, Delilah also shared the number for the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline: 1-800-273-8255.

We urge anyone who may be considering such action – or who knows someone who may be – to call it immediately.

Delilah Reveals Son"s Suicide Note, Opens Up About Heartbreak

Delilah Rene Luke is better known by just her first name, and best known for being the self-proclaimed Queen of Sappy Love Songs.

She’s a nationally-syndicated radio host who takes calls from listeners every night and who then dedicates a romantic ballad in their honor.

Tragically, however, she’s also known these days as a mother who lost of her son to suicide.

Earlier this month, Delilah broke the horrible news to Facebook followers that her child, Zack, had taken his own life, detailing how the young man had been battling Depression for years.

“My heart is broken beyond repair and I can not fathom how to go on… but I have to believe he is at peace with the Lord and that God will get us through,” wrote Delilah at the time.

Now, Delilah is opening up to People Magazine about her late son.

“He was my wild child; 13 broken bones, umpteen trips to the hospital with appendicitis, tonsillitis, a fractured skull. He was wild but so so so sweet,” the radio star says.

(Of amazing note: Zack one of Delilah’s three biological children, the other 10 – yes,10! – were welcomed through adoption).

Describing Zack as a “faithful friend to the outcast and the troubled,” Delilah says a December 2016 car crash, followed by a break-up and an illness, prompted a downward spiral.

“When he found out he wouldn’t graduate he spiraled into depression, and was honest about it,” says Delilah, who quickly “found him doctors, a fabulous counselor and support group.”

Did the suicide come as a shock?

It sounds that way.

“He was doing so well,” Delilah says.

“He was looking forward to making up his missed credits, graduating and starting film school. He was fascinated with science fiction and time travel and began to talk about the book A Wrinkle in Time and quantum physics.”

We don’t know how Zack killed himself, but his mom confirms her son left a note.

“His goodbye note did not mention sadness, anger, angst or depression, just a pressing madness about feeling like this world was not his home,” she says.

Delilah has been divorced three times and lost an adopted son to complications from sickle cell anemia in 2012.

She’s taking a leave of absence from her radio show and social media.

“The lady who is there for everyone else every single night now needs our love and our prayers sent right back to her,” says Delilah’s friend and rep Aaron Crisler.

Son of Syndicated Radio Host Delilah Commits Suicide

Delilah Rene, a nationally syndicated radio host who specializes in dedicating love songs to fans who call in, broke some awful news to her Facebook followers yesterday:

Her son, Zachariah, committed suicide last Tuesday.

“My dear friends, I need to share some devastating news with you. In the early morning hours, Tuesday, October 3, my son Zachariah, took his life,” Delilah wrote to her 1.4 million online fans.

She went on to give a bit of background on Zachariah’s condition:

“He was being treated, counseled, and embraced fiercely by family and friends while battling depression for some time now.

“My heart is broken beyond repair and I can not fathom how to go on… but I have to believe he is at peace with the Lord and that God will get us through.”

In a January Facebook message, Delilah had said her son was autistic.

Zack was one of the host’s 13 children, 10 of whom are adopted.

Another child, Sammy, passed away in 2012 due to complications from sickle cell anemia, just two years after she adopted him from a Ghanaian refugee camp in West Africa.

This is what she wrote after that personal tragedy:

“My son Sammy passed from this world today into heaven, but he left behind a piece of his amazing soul in all that met him.

“As painful as this moment is, I am so so so so so thankful that God allowed me, my family and friends to experience the essence of his soul for the past two years.

“Everyone who met him was blessed by his big heart, his silly character voices, his wonderful sense of humor and his kindness towards all.

“He was a precious, precious young man and I praise the Lord that I was allowed to be bathed in Sammy’s love as his “MommaBear”…

“We have been forever changed by having him in our lives.”
