Maria Menounos: Diagnosed With Brain Tumor as Mom Fights Brain Cancer
Maria Menounos is on the road to recovery after having surgery to remove a golf-ball-size meningioma brain tumor.
The 39-year-old underwent the surgery while her mother, Litsa Menounos, battled stage 4 brain cancer.
The E! News coanchor confirmed the news to People Magazine.
“This February I thought I had an ear infection, so I went to a doctor, and he said, ‘Your ears are the cleanest things I’ve ever seen. What else are you feeling?’ I’d been getting light-headed on-set and having headaches.”
“My speech had gotten slurred, and I was having difficulty reading the teleprompter. I said, ‘I know you’re going to think I’m crazy, but I think I have a brain tumor like my mom,’” Maria continued.
“He said, ‘I don’t think you’re crazy. Let’s just get an MRI.’ The next week I started feeling better, so I was like, ‘I’m clearly paranoid.’ So I kept pushing the MRI.”
Fast forward three months and the tumor has been removed. The tumor was revealed not to be cancerous, and her prognosis is hopeful.
Maria has decided to give up her role within E! News to recover and allow herself to think about the next chapter of her life.
“I am so grateful for the past three years at E!, I had such an amazing time co-hosting with Jason Kennedy and working everyday with the wonderful roster of talent on the show including producers, staff, and crew,” Maria said in a statement.
“It was such a special, good-hearted group and one I’ll always consider family. A special thank you to Frances Berwick and Adam Stotsky for all the support they have shown me through the years especially during these tough times. I will truly miss everyone and looking forward to this next chapter in my life.”
In addition to speaking to People, Maria opened up about her experience on The Today Show.
“For me, I saw it as a huge blessing and a huge gift because I needed to change my life,” she said, trying to hold back the tears.
“We’re caretakers as women, and we help everybody, and we put ourselves last always. And I don’t think — at least for me — I guess I realized I didn’t value myself in a lot of ways. And so I think that that was a really important lesson.”
Maria also opened up about her intentions to start a family in the wake of the ordeal.
“I want to start a family,” she added on Today. “You realize really quickly when something like this happens that nothing else really matters.”

Maria Menounos: ENGAGED to Keven Undergaro!
After 19 years with the same person, you probably start to assume that you’re never getting married.
We’re gonna go out on a limb and guess that you definitely assume you’ll never be proposed to live on Howard Stern’s show, but that’s just what happened to TV personality Maria Menounos just moments ago:
Maria appeared on Stern’s Sirius XM show today along with her longtime partner Keven Undergaro and received the surprised of a lifetime during a live broadcast:
“Although I said that this isn’t a proposal, I want to ask you something,” Undergaro asked the before getting down on one knee. “Will you make me the happiest man on Earth?”
Menounos initially thought it was all a joke (probably a common response after two decades of dating), but an emotional Undergaro assured her this was the real deal:
“This I wouldn’t joke about,” he said. “I love you so much, and this show’s meant so much to both of us…Why not make it official now? Will you honey? Will you accept?”
Menounos accepted, and Undergaro busted out a ring that co-host Robin Quivers described as “big.”
So congrats to Keven and the future Mrs. Menounos-Undergarment. We kid!
Here’s hoping the wedding planning won’t distract from Maria’s feud with Giuliana Rancic. That’s just entertaining stuff, right there.

Maria Menounos vs. Giuliana Rancic: What"s Their Beef Now?
E!’s red carpet coverage is up for grabs, and someone’s going to get hurt.
Maria Menounos and Giuliana Rancic, E!‘s two darlings (I guess) are reportedly duking it out over who gets to cover the best award shows this season.
On November 11th, E! announced that Rancic would cover this year’s American Music Awards. Radar, however, claims that Rancic is getting demoted to “second-tier award shows.”
Like, the Kids Choice Awards?
“Maria is making sure that she is getting the better award shows,” a source claims. “She and Giuliana are fighting over the most prestigious shows.”
Hell’s bells, ladies.
“Maria is confident that she is going to get the top spots over Giuliana,” the source added. “She has made it known that she is the star now and she wants to make sure that she is doing the Oscars and the Golden Globes.”
E! announced in July that Rancic would step down as co-host of E! News, but she would remain as host of E!’s Live From The Red Carpet and co-host of Fashion Police.
Rancic told People that rumors of a feud between her and Menounos were “absurd.”
Not so, the report alleges.
“There are so many bad feelings between the two of them and they are totally vying for the same jobs,” the source said. And they aren’t going to be a team, they’re going to go up against each other for the best jobs.
“Maria wants to do everything but she doesn’t care about the smaller shows and that’s why Giuliana is getting them.”
Come on, now. Can’t they just host it together? That mani-cam can’t carry the show on its own!
“Giuliana probably has no idea what she is up against,” the source continued. “Maria is going to make sure that she does whatever she has to to make sure she is the top red carpet host.”
I have this image of Menounos tapping her fingers together over a cauldron, and it won’t go away.
