The Voice Recap: Who Survived Night 2 of the Battles?

The Battle Rounds continued on Tuesday’s episode of The Voice, and there were some big shockers.

Certain performers who were solid in the Blind Auditions completely fizzled out. Others continued to turn in winning performances.

But who did not get through to the next stage?

Find out below.

Team Kelly: Kymberli Joye vs. OneUp – “Mercy”

In a rare feat, Kymberli went up against not one, but two competitors thanks OneUp being a duo. As we previously said, OneUp’s vocals are not all that.

And that’s wh Kymberli won this heat with flying colors. Some would say it wasn’t a fair fight for OneUp, but that’s to be expected when there is just one duo in the process.

Team Adam: Steve Memmolo vs. Anthony Arya – “Amy”

This was a fair fight. They were both not that great in the Blinds, so pitting them together made for a surprisingly competitive performance.

Steve definitely had the edge, and that was made obvious by his higher vocals. In the end, Adam kept Steve, but Anthony got a reprieve thanks to Jennifer.

Team Adam: Tyke James vs.Jarred Matthew – “She’s Always a Woman”

Okay, so we’re still unsure why either of these two got through the Blinds, but here we are. But one of them had to win, and it was genuinely difficult to tell them apart in the midst of all the screaming.

Tyke took the win, and thankfully, there was no steal in play. Phew.

Team Blake: Chris Kroeze vs. Mercedes Ferreira-Dias – “Back in the High Life Again”

There were a lot of issues with this Battle. Both artists did not sound good together, and that’s why it would come down to the personal preference of the coach.

Neither was better than the other. They were limited by their shared lack of ability.

Team Blake: Katrina Cain vs. Rachel Messer on “Angel”

Katrina has been a solid performer ever since her turn in the Blind Auditions, but what the heck was wrong with her voice during this Battle?

Had she been replaced with someone who looked like her? In any case, she secured the win over Rachel, but something tells me Rachel should have won this round.

That’s a wrap on Night 2 of the Battle Rounds. There’s still a lot to come from the Battles before we get to the Knockouts and the Playoffs.

There’s also the big twist coming up, so there’s that.

Jet Li: Frail Appearance Shocks Fans as Actor Battles Hyperthyroidism

It wasn’t all that long ago that Jet Li was one of the most recognized action stars on the planet.

We suppose that’s why so many on social media are expressing their shock over the actor and stunt specialist’s comparatively frail appearance nowadays.

That’s Li on the right, and as you can see, it’s somewhat difficult to believe that the 55-year-old was still starring in stunt spectaculars like The Expendables 3 just four short years ago.

The photo above was posted by Twitter user Simón, who captioned it:

“So, apparently, Jet Li is suffering from ‘hyperthyroidism and spinal problems’ and this is him now.”

He later added:

“Jackie Chan and Jet Li were like Gods to me when I was little. It’s so sad to see Li like this.”

Li mostly keeps a low profile these days, but sources close to the actor have confirmed that he is still battling hyperthyroidism.

According to TMZ, Li also suffered numerous “serious leg and spine injuries” during his career.

In recent years, Li’s condition has reportedly deteriorated to the point that he finds it difficult to stand for long periods of time.

Li first revealed that he’s been diagnosed with hyperthyroidism back in 2013.

“I’m in pain, but I’m not suffering. I’m happy,” Li said in an interview at the time.

Aside from his appearance in The Expendables 3 and the occasional social media post, he has apparently steered clear of the spotlight as much as possible over the past five years.

Today, fans from all over the globe are sending thoughts and prayers to Li and his family.

While the father of four has turned away from acting in recent years, he clearly still enjoys the support of a very loyal fan base.

For many, the reactions to Li’s appearance brings to mind the shock with which fans responded to photos of actor Val Kilmer looking frail after battling cancer.

Like Li, Kilmer was an icon of strength and swagger for those who came of age in the 1990s and early-2000s.

And in both cases, one gets the impression that the stars were so convincing in their portrayals of invincible heroes that any reminder of their mortality is bound to be greeted with astonishment.

These days, Kilmer s reportedly cancer-free and considering a return to acting.

Here’s hoping Li’s treatment meets with similar success.

Our thoughts go out to the action icon and his family during this difficult time.

The Voice Recap: Who Won the Last Battles?

The Voice Season 11 Battle Rounds are in the books, with Adam Levine, Blake Shelton, Miley Cyrus and Alicia Keys finalizing their squads.

And making tough call after tough call in the process.

Let’s break down the remaining battles as the contenders separate from the pretenders vying to be named The Voice of the NBC season.

Team Blake: Austin Allsup vs. Preston James (“Bad Moon Rising”)

Preston grew up surrounded by the country music world; Austin’s dad, meanwhile, played with the legendary ’50s musician Buddy Holly.

Clearly, it’s in their blood.

For both Austin and Preston, this is what they do, so working together on an iconic Creedence Clearwater Revival tune was up their alley.

They slowed the rocking song down, pleasing both Blake and his advisor Bette Midler (!) and leaving the vocalist with a very hard choice.

Blake called this match-up his favorite battle and the toughest to declare a winner in, but there can be only one, and he was decisive.

Winner: Austin Allsup!

Team Alicia: Gabriel Violett vs. Whitney and Shannon (“More Than Words”)

Gabriel is an aspiring Broadway star. Sisters Whitney and Shannon bring a type of harmony that is really unique in the music industry.

Working with Team Alicia, all three singers were encouraged to enhance their performance as a group instead of competing directly.

That may seem like contradictory advice.

This is The Voice here, and it’s the Battle Round here. Survive and advance is the only objective in what amounts to a zero-sum game.

Still, a moving performance involves working with the other participant(s), and their rendition of “More Than Words” was sweet indeed.

Alicia made something of a shocking pick, as the crowd and the coaches seemed to favor Gabriel, but she went with her gut and the duo.

Winner: Whitney and Shannon!

Team Adam: Bindi Liebowitz vs. Brendan Fletcher (“Home”)

Bindi not only wants to be a singer for herself, but to make her mother proud after watching her courageous battle with breast cancer.

Brendan, who also wants to make his dream come true, took on his fellow raspy-voiced singer, and both of them have a lot to overcome.

This is what The Voice is all about, though.

Introverted, introspective soul-searchers, rather than crowd-pleasing extroverts, it was a challenge for either to truly work that stage.

But boy did they do their best, and man alive, did their voices come together in epic fashion. No wonder BOTH will be moving onward …

Winner: Brendan Fletcher!

Steal: Bindi Leibowitz! (By Blake!)

Who do you think was the best last night? Which of the singers advancing to the Knockout Round do you think has what it takes to win?

Moreover, which coach has the best team on the aggregate – and are you excited Gwen Stefani is returning to The Voice next season?!

Jenelle Evans: I"m Fighting Two Custody Battles At the Same Time!

Jenelle Evans is always involved in some sort of drama, but lately, her life has been even more of a trainwreck/roller coaster than usual.

As usual, she’s dealing with a mountain of legal troubles, and she may soon find herself bars for assaulting Nathan Griffith’s girlfriend.

Add to that her recent feud with Kailyn Lowry and Chelsea Houska, as well as the ongoing battery of tests for her mysterious medical problems, and Jenelle has a lot on her plate, even by Jenelle standards.

But the Carolina Hurricane thrives on drama the way the rest of us live on food and oxygen, and Jenelle announced on Twitter moments ago that she’s gearing up for even more craziness:

“Two custody battles at the same time. Let’s go,” Jenelle tweeted, along with a smiley face Emoji.

Yes, it seems Jenelle is planning to go to court to win back custody of her first son Jace, who’s basically been raised by her mother, Barbara.

At the same time, she’s trying to win full custody of her second son, Kaiser, which she currently shares with baby daddy Nathan.

“Jenelle just has everything in place and the court dates have officially been set,” a source close to the situation tells Radar Online. “She’s going for full custody of Kaiser.”

Unfortunately, it seems Jenelle may face delays in both of her legal battles. For one thing, no one knows where the hell Nathan is:

“They are just trying to serve Nathan right now, which he doesn’t have a lawyer like he said he did and he won’t give anyone his address to be served,” says the insider.

Meanwhile, lawyers for Barabara have delayed that case until May, and the source says Jenelle plans to use the intervening months to “gather all of the evidence” she needs to prove that Barbara is an unfit guardian.

She better hope that the judge in her case doesn’t watch Teen Mom 2 online, because just about every episode contains iron-clad proof that Jenelle shouldn’t be allowed in the same room as a child.
