13-Year-Old Boy Miraculously Recovers After Being Declared Brain Dead
After a devastating accident left a 13-year-old boy with multiple skull fractures, his parents were prepared to donate his organs. Then, he began to recovery.
As you will see in the video below, Trenton"s recovery has been nothing sort of amazing. He"ll tell you that himself in the video below.
It"s no wonder that so many people keep referring to this as a miracle.
Two months ago, Trenton McKinley of Mobile, Alabama was hospitalized under especially tragic circumstances.
The 13-year-old had been in a serious accident.
While riding in a trailer that was hitched to the back of a dune buggy that his friend was driving.
If that sounds like a recipe for disaster to you, you are correct.
ABC reports that when his friend stopped the buggy abruptly, the trailer flipped over.
Trenton"s head hit the concrete and the trailer landed on his head.
He had seven skull fractures and needed two different surgeries to remove a portion of his skull.
Doctors did not expect him to make it, as his mother explains.
"He was dead a total of 15 minutes."
While the medical term for death refers to someone not having any cardiovascular function, brains needs oxygen to live, and when they are starved of oxygen, a person dies.
"When he came back, they said he would never be normal again."
Doctors feared the worst, and warned the family to not get their hopes up.
"They told me the oxidation problems would be so bad to his brain, that he would be a vegetable if he even made it."
The parents were prepared to donate his organs, which is absolutely the responsible thing to do.
But, 48 to 72 hours after coming to the hospital, and a day before they would have taken him off of life support, Trenton began to show signs of brain function.
Some internet denizens have condemned the parents for being prepared to donate his organs and accused the doctors of being "greedy" for his organs.
The family, it sounds like, is just happy to have their son back.
His mother says: "He"s a miracle, and he just amazes everybody."
Trenton himself says this:
"There"s no other explanation but God. There"s no other way that I could have came back. Even the doctors said."
Obviously, and with zero disrespect towards the McKinley family or anyone else"s religious beliefs, medical experts have offered an explanation.
In fact, you may have guessed it, based upon accounts of how young children are more likely to survive certain traumatic events — like plunging into a freezing river — than adults.
There is a higher level of plasticity to a young, developing brain than there is to an adult whose brain is finished developing.
This means that new connections are easier to form, and it also means that parts of a child"s brain have an easier time repurposing themselves.
Again, the doctors who mention this are in no way trying to diminish this family"s feeling that this recovery was miraculous.
As you can see in the video below, Trenton is still recovering.
He appears to need help and support when taking actions like rising up and walking.
But it is wonderful that he and his family were able to pull through this tragedy.
We absolutely wish him the best as he continues to recover.
Hear him speak in the video below:

Teen Mom OG Recap: Insane in the Brain
Monday on Teen Mom OG, Amber and Andrew got into a major tiff, while Farrah and her mom continued to butt heads over Deb’s wedding.
Also, Catelynn confirmed she was pregnant again, but not everybody reacted to the seemingly joyous news how you might expect.
When Teen Mom OG Season 5 Episode 10 got underway, Amber finally announced her baby news to her friends and family members.
If you watch Teen Mom OG online, you know that there’s always more drama ahead, though, and Andrew Glennon delivered.
Amber disagreed with his “hippie” suggestion that they wait to find out the gender of their child, and an explosive argument followed.
Not surprisingly, Amber won out in the end.
The family then celebrated Halloween with her daughter, Leah, along with Leah’s father Gary Shirley, and his wife, Kristina Anderson.
The haunted hayride looked fun, but things turned a little more serious (and awkward) when Gary expressed his concern for Amber.
Regarding her pregnancy, he even took a dig at her and the timeline of her latest romance, saying, “hopefully it’s not Matt’s!”
Hopefully not, indeed. Kristina weighed in that “I think there was a break between Matt and Andrew, I think, I don’t know!”
None of us really do.
Indeed, fans have speculated that Amber’s baby could possibly be Matt’s, but there’s nothing to suggest that rumor is true.
Down in the Volunteer State, Maci Bookout and Ryan Edwards were still trying to figure out a custody agreement, and butting heads.
Since he has yet to take a drug test – her requirement for him to see Bentley more often – there’s still an impasse in that regard.
Just the same, Maci and Ryan kept up their tradition of taking Bentley trick-or-treating together with his grandparents, Jen and Larry.
At least that was the plan.
When Maci changed the time, Ryan, Mackenzie Standifer, and her son, Hudson, were not able to join the festivities. Ryan was pissed.
Ryan alleged that Maci intentionally wanted to sabotage the plans and exclude him, though Maci claimed this was not the case.
Separately, she told husband Taylor McKinney that she didn’t know anything about Ryan and Mackenzie’s scheduling issues.
Either way, another day, another drama.
On a bittersweet note, considering what we know has happened since this was filmed, Catelynn Lowell was celebrating her pregnancy.
At the same time, she and Tyler Baltierra were dealing with the emotionally heavy subject of sending his father Butch back to rehab.
Fortunately for Butch, this time it was voluntary, not court-ordered; Cate and Tyler were also behind him 100% – and $ 48,000 worth.
That’s a lot of confidence in his ability to take it seriously, but it seemed like he was, even if he was feeling anxious about the process.
We wish him the best.
As for Cate, we know she miscarried, and that Lowell is in rehab again as well as part of her ongoing battle with mental health problems.
Finally, Farrah Abraham heard from none other than Jenelle Evans of Teen Mom 2 fame, who reached out to her about Deb’s wedding.
What does Jenelle have to do with it?
Apparently, Evans’ ex-husband, Courtland Rogers, was invited to Farrah’s mother’s upcoming nuptials … which makes literally no sense.
Farrah, naturally, was confused, and did the logical thing – calling up Debbo on FaceTime and putting her on blast over this move.
Despite the verbal reprimand, Debra decided to stand by her decision about Courtland being invited, which still makes no sense, but hey:
Very little about Farrah’s world does.

Alex Trebek Takes Leave of Absence After Brain Surgery
What is… very disappointing news?
The announcement just made by Alex Trebek.
In a video posted on YouTube, the veteran Jeopardy host announced late Thursday that he will be taking a hiatus from the beloved game show.
Why?
Because he recently underwent brain surgery.
That’s a pretty good reason, huh?
Trebek, who has hosted the aforementioned program for 33 years, says he has been suffering from a subdural hematoma, which causes blood clots, as a result of a bad fall he took in October.
Donning a yellow sweater, jeans and a blue “Jeopardy!” hat, the 77-year-old uses his world famous tone below to address the camera and refer to the procedure he recently underwent as “a slight medical problem.”
Adds the host:
“Surgery was performed. After two days in the hospital, I came home to start recovery.
“The prognosis is excellent, and I expect to be back in the studio taping more Jeopardy! programs very, very soon.”
Trebek did not give an exact date for his return, however.
Sony Pictures Entertainment, the company that produces the game show, said in aits own statement that Trebek was admitted to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles on December 15.
He underwent surgery the next day.
“He is expected to make a full and complete recovery,” the company says, adding:
“Alex spent Christmas at home with his family, and he will return to the Jeopardy! studio for taping in mid-January.”
The show is taped in advance, so viewers can expect to see new episodes each night for the next few weeks.
Sony says the only change in the Jeopardy schedule will be a delay the show’s annual college championship; instead of being taped next week, it will be taped in March.
Look for it to air in April.
Trebek recently renewed his contract to continue hosting the game show through the 2019-2020 season, based on a Sony Pictures Entertainment press release in May.
In June of 2014, the Guinness Book of World Records presented Trebek with an award for the most times one person has hosted the same show.
At the time, he had never missed a taping, not even due to illness.
“It’s an honor to hold the Guinness World Record for hosting Jeopardy!, which I’ve often said is the best of reality T.V.,” Trebek said back then.
This man is a living legend.
So let’s hope he continues to live for a very long time.
Please join us in sending the best wishes to Alex Trebek.

Mackenzie McKee Reveals Mother"s Heartbreaking Brain Cancer Diagnosis
You probably know Mackenzie McKee best for her time on Teen Mom 3, and for her subsequent wild and crazy antics.
But today, Mackenzie is in the news for a different, much more upsetting reason …
It’s because she just revealed that her mother, Angie Douthit, has been diagnosed with brain cancer.
It sounds like the family just got the news on Tuesday — that night, Mackenzie tweeted “Haven’t cried this hard in over ten years. By far the worst night of my life.”
A few hours later, she asked “all prayer warriors” to “please pray for my mom.”
“What we thought was bronchitis turned out to be 3 masses on her brain, 1 large imone in her lungs and multiple blood clots,” she explained.
“We are in shock and devastated. She has brain surgery tomorrow. I’m sick. I’m so sick and want to wake up from this nightmare.”
Yesterday, Angie did have the brain surgery, but TMZ reports that things are even worse than they previously thought.
Doctors found two more lesions in her brain, as well as multiple masses in her lungs. She’s been diagnosed with stage four brain cancer.
The family has made a GoFundMe account to help with the costs of treatment — remember, although Mackenzie was a Teen Mom, the girls from Teen Mom 3 only filmed for one season, and they never made the money the other moms did.
In the information for the fundraiser, Angie’s family explains that her tumors “cover almost the entire brain,” and the cancer “started in her lungs with several masses and spread to her brain.”
“Angie has always been the healthiest person,” she “doesn’t smoke and never did,” and she also abstains from alcohol, eats organic, and runs marathons, “so this has come as a complete shock to the family.”
In an update, it was revealed that Angie will get an MRI and a bone scan today, along with a few other tests, to determine the course of treatments.
In another heartbreaking update, Angie herself wrote that her family had given her running gear for Christmas, and “Since I can’t run right now, I challenge all of u to run for me tomorrow believing that I will soon get to run and wear my new things.”
Yesterday, Mackenzie shared a collage of photos of her mother on Instagram, calling her “the most amazing woman I know.”
“She taught me everything I know. She is the only reason I am the woman I am today. I love you Mom. I’m devastated, I’m angry, I’m shook, I can’t breathe.”
“You are everything,” she finished. “Please pray.”
In a statement she gave to Us Weekly, Mackenzie echoed the information on Angie’s GoFundMe page, saying “She is the healthiest person I know. Eats healthier than me. Always organic.”
“Doesn’t smoke, doesn’t drink, she is a school teacher so she has no money. She runs marathons and works out two to three times a day. This does not run in our family.”
“I am so sad,” she continued. “I can barely breathe. I can not lose her.”
“She did ask that I blog her whole journey and make a documentary in case something does happen we will always have that. I know God will use her to speak to others.”
Mackenzie does seem intent on documenting everything so far — her last update was a couple of hours ago on Twitter, where she wrote “Does your body ever run out of tears?”
Best wishes for her and her family as they go through this tragic ordeal.

Kate Walsh: I Had a Brain Tumor. This is What Happened.
Kate Walsh has opened up about a topic both personal and frightening:
She was recently diagnosed with a brain tumor.
The actress – who rose to fame as Addison Montgomery on Grey’s Anatomy and who then starred on the spinoff Private Practice and who also plays a key role on Netflix’s 13 Reasons Why – divulged this scary tidbit to to Cosmpolitan.
She told the magazine that she went to see a doctor after experiencing serious bouts of exhaustion, while she was simultaneous struggling to finish sentences and had difficulty working out.
“My pilates instructor said ‘hey, your right side is dipping,’ and it didn’t feel like I was off, but I looked down and could see it. Then when I was driving, I started swerving into the right lane,” Walsh told Cosmopolitan.
She continued:
“The exhaustion got to the point where I could drink five cups of coffee and still not feel awake or clear.
“And then around April, I started having more cognitive difficulties.
“It felt like aphasia, but it wasn’t just not being able to find words; I would lose my train of thought, I wasn’t able to finish sentences, and that was when I got really alarmed.”
This all took place in early 2015.
Upon visiting with a neurologist, Walsh received her diagnosis.
“The words ‘brain tumor’ were never in my zeitgeist,” she said, explaining her shock at the time and adding:
“I went in for the MRI, and you know it’s serious when they don’t even wait, they’re like ‘hey, the radiologist wants to see you.’ And she starts to say, ‘Well, it looks like you have a very sizable brain tumor’ – and I just left my body.
“My assistant had driven me there, and I had to go get him so that he could take notes, because I was gone.
“It was never anything I would have imagined.”
Three days after learning about the tumor, Walsh underwent surgery for its removal.
During her road to recovery, Walsh took nine months off, referring to the diagnosis was a “wake-up call.”
“Those cliche, existential things do happen when you have a brain tumor, like, ‘How do I really want to spend my time?’” she said to the magazine.
“I want to be with my friends and family and work on projects that are hugely important to me, and fun, and that make a cultural contribution.
“But my health comes first, and I’ve had to change my lifestyle.”
Appearing on The View on Monday morning, Walsh said she chose to speak out now as part of her partnership with Cigna’s campaign about preventative care.
“It was a perfect opportunity to really emphasize the importance of advocating for your own health, particularly women,” she explained.
The former Grey’s Anatomy regular appears in a new doctor-themed ad with her former colleague, Patrick Dempsey, along with other actors who famously played doctors, such as Neil Patrick Harris.
“We had such a blast,” Walsh says of the campaign. “It was so fun for me to be reunited with Patrick.”
We’re just so glad to hear that Walsh had this potentially major problem diagnosed early and taken care of quickly.
We wish her the best.
