Jael Strauss, America"s Next Top Model Alum, Has Stage IV Breast Cancer
I don’t want to die.
These are the heartbreaking words penned by Jael Strauss on her Facebook page in a message to fans that relayed the most painful news imaginable:
She has been diagnosed with an aggressive form of breast cancer.
“I was gonna write some long thing but some of you guys deserve to know,” the 34-year old wrote last week, four days into Breast Cancer Awareness month.
She then added very simply:
“On October 2nd I was diagnosed with stage IV breast cancer. It has aggressively spread throughout my body and is incurable.”
Stage IV is the final and most serious stage for cancer.
It is not always a death sentence, but as Strauss writes here, there is rarely any treatment options for someone that has contracted such an illness.
Strauss later confirmed that the name of her illness was rapidly progressive metastatic inflammatory breast cancer.
She went on to explain that undergoing chemotherapy and treatment may help extend her doctors’ original prognosis.
“With treatment it may prolong my life longer than the “few months” doctors said I could make it,” she added.
“I don’t want to die. I need another one of those miracles that I got back in 2013.”
Strauss competed on the eighth season of America’s Next Top Model in 2007, finishing six among all contestants.
Just this past August, she celebrated five years of sobriety, writing at the time on Instagram;
“Today I have 5 years sober. Good God!
“I know a few things to be true: Miracles are real, Recovery is possible for everyone no matter how far gone you think you are, We are never too broken to be put back together.”
She talked years ago with Dr. Phil about how an intervention by her loved ones allowed her to overcome her addiction.
(Hence the reference above to the year 2013.)
“Service work feels better than the greatest high, Sobriety makes you weirder not normal,” she continued last month.
“And I’d be dead if it weren’t for all the love and forgiveness I’ve been showered with by my friends and family. Thank you to anyone that’s ever let me sponsor them.”
To help offset some of the medical costs, Strauss’ friends have set up a GoFundMe page on her behalf, confirming that the former model has already started chemotherapy.
“What we do know is that Jael is putting all of her energy and drive into fighting this insidious disease and can use as much support and love as possible,” reads the fundraising page, noting that:
“Jael is in tremendous pain right now and is unable to work. In a month, she will be let go from her job and lose her health insurance.”
It adds:
Jael, being the selfless person that she is, has helped countless people throughout her life as an advocate for recovery and social justice.
She has offered everything she has to people in need; no matter what their situation, she is always ready to help with an empathetic heart and nonjudgmental spirit.
She has created “gofundmes” for literally dozens of her friends, and it is now time for us to pay her back.
We have the chance, and honestly the obligation, to step up and return the favor.

Glenn Weiss Wins Emmy, PROPOSES ON STAGE!
Barry, Game of Thrones and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel all had big nights at the 2018 Emmy Awards.
But no one had a bigger night than Glenn Weiss.
First, the heretofore little known director won Outstanding Directing for a Variety Special due to his work at the Academy Awards.
Then, he won the eternal love of girlfriend Jan Svendsen.
After hearing his name called, Weiss walked up to the stage and he thanked his daughters and friends at ABC. The acceptance started out as your typical speech.
From there, he started speak about his mother, who died just two weeks ago, telling the audience:
“Part of my heart is broken. I don’t think it will ever be repaired. But she’s in me and she always will be."
Weiss explained how his mother always believed in “finding the sunshine,” leading him to denote Svensen as “the sunshine in my life," as he continued:
"And Mom was right, don’t ever let go of your sunshine. You wonder why I don’t like to call you my girlfriend? Because I want to call you my wife."
At this word, the crowd erupted in a loud cheer and Svensen shouted "yes."
It really was an awesome moment.
Svendsen was quickly ushered up to the stage by Milo Ventimiglia and a few other stars until she reached the arms of Weiss.
As she was walking up, he joked that “I didn’t ask yet. I didn’t ask yet."
But once she was in front of him, Weiss pulled out his dad"s engagement ring and got down on one knee.
"Jan, I want to put this ring that my mom wore on your finger in front of all these people and in front of my mom and your parents watching from above. Will you marry me?" he asked.
And you can guess how she responded, right?
By saying YES!
Later on, backstage, the newly-engaged couple told reporters how they met 10 years ago and both have daughters and both produce television shows and how Jan had no idea this was going to happen.
“I had no suspicions whatsoever, I had no idea,” she said. “I really hoped he was going to dedicate the award to his mother, and he did, and then some.”

Beyonce and Jay-Z: Fan Rushes the Stage, Gets Clobbered by Dancers
Beyonce and Jay-Z were on stage when a man from the audience rushed on stage, where he allegedly made some sort of physical contact with Jay-Z.
Security whisked Beyonce away and rushed to help, but not before Beyonce"s backup dancers rushed into action.
We"ve merged a few fan videos of the incident so that you can see what went down from multiple angles.
A man later identified as 26-year-old Anthony Charles Thomas Maxwell allegedly raced onto the stage on Saturday night during Beyonce and Jay-Z"s performance.
Remember their joint album? The couple is doing their "On The Run II Tour."
TMZ reports that Maxwell made some sort of physical contact with Jay-Z, but did not appear to be able to reach Beyonce.
Eyewitness reports from the audience (which we should always take with a grain of salt) say that the man punched or otherwise struck Jay-Z.
Whatever the man was expecting … what happened next was probably not it.
Going by what various eyewitnesses reported on social media, it sounds like a bodyguard whisked Beyonce away immediately, leaving Jay-Z behind.
People have joked about this, but we would speculate that this is the standing order with their security team. If they"d had their children with them, getting the kids to safety would certainly be the priority.
Before numerous black-shirted security members could rush onto stage, it looks like a score of backup dancers rushed in.
When you see someone charge onto the stage, you don"t know if they"re an obsessed fan who wants to touch someone or an obsessed fan who wants to stab someone.
It looks like these dancers weren"t taking any chances with Beyonce or Jay-Z, and it appears that they totally clobbered Maxwell in order to protect the stars.
Police arrived and, TMZ reports, merely detained Maxwell and wrote up a ticket for disorderly conduct.
He was then reportedly released, with a hearing scheduled for Monday.
Since Jay-Z was reportedly not injured, Maxwell may have gotten very lucky and avoided assault charges — but that remains to be seen and will ultimately be up to prosecutors.
A rep for Beyonce shared that this will not halt the tour, but that they may have tighter security going forward.
That sounds like a good plan. Sometimes, these scary incidents invite copycats.
People who are already unbalanced and considering doing something drastic can draw inspiration from other people"s bad behavior.
What really makes this is the video — or, rather, the series of videos — that fans have of the backup dancers breaking formation.
We"re sure that Beyonce and Jay-Z"s security team is as good as it gets, but no one can plan for every contingency.
And, unfortunately, the "lone lunatic with nothing to lose and no plan to escape" is considered all but impossible to counter unless you want to live in a bunker.
Thankfully, it does not appear that Maxwell was in any way armed.
Thanks to that and the quick reaction of both the dancers and security people, this story has a happy ending.
Beyonce"s rep, Yvette Noel-Schure, shared a photo of the couple on stage
"Thank you to all the fans for your concern," she wrote in her captions.
Her captions continue: "They are fine and looking forward to the show tomorrow."
It is great to have confirmation of their well-being.
