Alex Trebek Takes Leave of Absence After Brain Surgery

What is… very disappointing news?

The announcement just made by Alex Trebek.

In a video posted on YouTube, the veteran Jeopardy host announced late Thursday that he will be taking a hiatus from the beloved game show.

Why?

Because he recently underwent brain surgery.

That’s a pretty good reason, huh?

Trebek, who has hosted the aforementioned program for 33 years, says he has been suffering from a subdural hematoma, which causes blood clots, as a result of a bad fall he took in October.

Donning a yellow sweater, jeans and a blue “Jeopardy!” hat, the 77-year-old uses his world famous tone below to address the camera and refer to the procedure he recently underwent as “a slight medical problem.”

Adds the host:

“Surgery was performed. After two days in the hospital, I came home to start recovery.

“The prognosis is excellent, and I expect to be back in the studio taping more Jeopardy! programs very, very soon.”

Trebek did not give an exact date for his return, however.

Sony Pictures Entertainment, the company that produces the game show, said in aits own statement that Trebek was admitted to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles on December 15.

He underwent surgery the next day.

“He is expected to make a full and complete recovery,” the company says, adding:

“Alex spent Christmas at home with his family, and he will return to the Jeopardy! studio for taping in mid-January.”

The show is taped in advance, so viewers can expect to see new episodes each night for the next few weeks.

Sony says the only change in the Jeopardy schedule will be a delay the show’s annual college championship; instead of being taped next week, it will be taped in March.

Look for it to air in April.

Trebek recently renewed his contract to continue hosting the game show through the 2019-2020 season, based on a Sony Pictures Entertainment press release in May.

In June of 2014, the Guinness Book of World Records presented Trebek with an award for the most times one person has hosted the same show.

At the time, he had never missed a taping, not even due to illness.

“It’s an honor to hold the Guinness World Record for hosting Jeopardy!, which I’ve often said is the best of reality T.V.,” Trebek said back then.

This man is a living legend.

So let’s hope he continues to live for a very long time.

Please join us in sending the best wishes to Alex Trebek.

Alex Trebek Raps on Jeopardy, Is Totally Lit

Over the years on Jeopardy, Alex Trebek has frequently impressed viewers with his rapping skills.

Remember when he spit out lyrics to Drake"s "Jumpman?"

Or when he went all Fresh Prince of Bel-Air on us?

Both are great clips, to be sure, but neither compares to the fun Trebek had this week throughout an entire category on the College Tournament of Champions.

The category was titled “Let’s Rap, Kids!”

It required Trebek to read lyrics from such smash hits as Drake’s “Started from the Bottom,” Lil Wayne"s “6 Foot 7 Foot," Kanye West’s “Famous” and Desiigner’s “Panda.”

"Cause the F is for Finisher, people!

Lamented Trebek when the category was over:

“I was just getting into this rap thing. I’m not too good at it, but I was getting into it.”

Eh, we don"t know.

For a 76-year old white guy from Canada? Trebek isn"t bad! Some might even say he was "lit" during the episode.

Would YOU say this? Watch the beloved game show host rap away and decide for yourself:

Alex Trebek Drops Bars On "Jeopardy!" (VIDEO)

It’s debatable, but Alex Trebek might’ve just announced the best “Jeopardy!” category of his career … at the expense of Drake, Kendrick Lamar, Lil Wayne and Kanye West. The category was “Let’s Rap, Kids” and Trebek had to repeat lyrics from…

Alex Trebek Spits Drake"s "Jumpman," Canadian Hip Hop Peaks

Alex Trebek might be the realest G in the world of syndicated television.

For years, he’s defended his turf from mark-ass tricks like Pat Sajak, Thursday night football broadcasts, and whatever f–kboy tried to jack his audience by inventing pub trivia.

Now, Trebek is sending a message to anyone who doubts his street cred by spittin’ bars from his fellow Canadian Mr. Aubrey Drake Graham:

Yes, Trebek’s version is at once more Canadian and more gangsta that Drake’s.

Hopefully, Drizzy is working on a Sean Connery-sampling diss track at this very moment.

Drake vs. Trebek is a feud we need in out lives.

Of course, like having your song parodied by Weird Al, having your rhymes recited in the form of an answer by Al Trizzy has become something of an honor in the music industry.

In the past couple years, we’ve seen Trebek sing Rihanna.

We’ve seen him croon the lyrics to the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air theme song.

We’ve even watched with glee as he rapped an entire category, whilst giving shoutouts to fellow OGs, such as Dr. Dre.

Through it all, Trebek never even came close to dropping his news anchor-esque swag, which is one of the reasons he remains a broadcasting legend.

Sadly, Drake has yet to give props to his fellow neighbor to the north for making his 2015 sneaker ode fresh again.

Some cats just can’t handle being upstaged.

Of course, this isn’t the first time another artist has put their own spin on “Jumpman.”

You may remember this self-deprecating Taylor Swift Apple commercial:

These days, of course, it’s being rumored that Swift and Drake are dating.

So maybe Aubrey really considers imitation to be the sincerest form of flattery.

Perhaps instead of a diss track, he’s working on a Trebek tribute album.

We imagine it’ll be titled Views (From Behind the Podium) and feature the sure-to-be hit single “Started From the Bottom (Of the Category Because I’m Looking for the Daily Double)”.

Maybe he’ll follow that up with “Just Hold On (We’re Going to Final Jeopardy)”.

Okay, we’re officially out of Drake-Jeopardy jokes.

For now…

Alex Trebek to Jeopardy Contestant: You"re a Loser!!!

You don’t troll Alex Trebek and get away with it.

A contestant named Buzzy Cohen found this out the hard way back in May of this year.

But if/when Alex Trebek trolls YOU?

Well, you suck it up and take it and accept that you’re about to be on the wrong end of a hilarious viral video.

Susan Cole just found this out the embarrassing way.

On Wednesday night’s episode of Jeopardy, Trebek asked Cole what the “nerdcore” was about, as this was a piece of biographical information she had mentioned to producers.

He prefaced his question by saying the concept “doesn’t sound like fun.” C

But Cole tried to explain one of her hobbies so that Trebek and viewers at home would have more respect for it.

It’s safe to say she failed, however.

“It’s people who identify as nerdy, rapping about the things they love,” Cole explained. “Video games, science fiction, having a hard time meeting romantic partners. It’s really catchy and fun.”

How did Trebek respond to this description?

WATCH AND FIND OUT:

HA! How amazing is that?

We feel a little bad for Cole, of course. Just look at the expression on her face when Trebek comes right out and calls her a “loser.”

But she’s merely the latest in a long line of contestants to feel the icy cold wrath of an Alex Trebek burn.

We can’t think of any this overt, but come on. Who can be mad at Alex Trebek?

Remember when he rapped The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air theme song?

Or when he ran down a hotel hallway naked and tore his Achilles while apprehending a criminal?

Trebek is a global treasure.

Hopefully Cole just considers herself lucky for even sharing the same stage as Trebek.

Oh, and she also won $ 20,600 on the episode.

So she ended the evening as a winner, even if she’ll always be a loser in the game show host’s book. That’s not too shabby.

Jeopardy Contestant Makes Alex Trebek Say "Turd Ferguson"

Best. Finale. Jeopardy. Answer. EVER.

And it"s not even close.

During a recent final round of this classic game show, a contestant named Talia Lavin did not know the answer.

So, with the category Oscar-Nominated Songs, Lavin wrote down the following response:

"What is the love ballad of Turd Ferguson?" throwing in a "p.s. hi mom" for good measure.

Turd Ferguson, of course, is a name made famous by Burt Reynolds on the Celebrity Jeopardy skit from Saturday Night Live.

It"s unclear whether or not Alex Trebek gets the reference, but it is clear this is now the best final Jeopardy answer ever. Sorry, this other answer!
