Yanny vs. Laurel Debate SOLVED! Who Was Right?!
By now, you’ve heard the infamous Yanny or Laurel video for yourself. At the very least, you’ve heard the debate.
It’s The Dress all over again, but this time it’s people’s sense of hearing that’s turning husband against wife and sister against brother.
But, as is the case with most things, there is a correct answer.
#Yannygate, which no one is calling this, involves a single audio clip played in a video.
Some people hear “Yanny.” Others hear “Laurel.”
Others hear both.
(For me, I heard “Yanny” in a high pitched voice, but when I brought my phone closer to my hear, I heard “Laurel” clearly in a deep voice, and I can no longer hear “Yanny”)
People are joking about this being grounds for divorce, and respond with shock and disbelief that anyone could hear anything but what they themselves are hearing.
But there is a correct answer.
The voice is saying “Laurel.” Officially.
As with so many social ills, this one originates on reddit.
A redditor by the name of RolandCamry made a recording of the robotic pronunciation of “Laurel” from vocabulary.com.
He says that, because he recorded the audio off of his speakers, there is a distortion that creates the auditory peculiarity.
Speaking to TMZ, RolandCamry says that the “Yanny vs Laurel” debate originated when he played the recording for his friend, who heard “Yanny.”
They then decided to broadcast this peculiar audio clip to find out what others hear.
The words “Laurel” and “Yanny” have very similar acoustic qualities.
If you’re wondering why people hear it differently, there are a couple of factors.
One, different people played the audio on different devices under different circumstances.
Do you ever switch a song from one device to another and suddenly it sounds clearer (or like crap)? That difference can radically alter your perceptions.
Two, different people hear things differently and process auditory information differently. In fact, people’s senses can vary a great deal without realizing it.
Age is even a factor. Those with “younger” ears are more likely to hear “Yanny,” which is at a higher pitch. Those with “older” ears are more likely to hear “Laurel.”
Three is that our brains work based on efficiency rather than accuracy.
If you already “know” what you’re hearing, that is what you’re likely to hear.
Which is why some people heard both, and had to process the audio over multiple listens before they heard it differently.
This is a similar phenomenon to how one might hear song lyrics.
Once you read that Rihanna sings “so if you must falter, be wise,” your mind is less likely to process the audio as “Caligula, salsa, beehive.”
So, there you have it.
Congratulations to Team Laurel. You guys were right.
Congratulations to Team Yanny. You guys have younger ears, for whatever that’s worth.

Taylor Swift Mystery Solved: "Back to December" Is About WHICH Famous Ex?!
Taylor Swift has dated a lot of famous dudes.
You may want to take a second to recover from the shock of that news before you read any further.
Ready? Good, because we’re about to hit you with another shocker:
Taylor has been known to occasionally write songs inspired by her celebrity exes.
In the grand country music tradition (It’s easy to forget, but Swift did get her start in Nashville.), most of them are scathing take downs of no-good cheats who done ‘er wrong.
Swift slammed John Mayer in the not-so-subtle “Dear John.”
She informed legions of you JoBros fans that Joe Jonas was the reason for the teardrops on her guitar.
And we’re sure a diss track about a lanky Scot is currently in post-production. Maybe he’ll be a practicing Calvinist.
Anyway, Taylor is no Carly Simon when it comes to nuance, and her lyrics are usually pretty blunt and on-the-nose.
That said, in the past, her relationships have come in such rapid succession (with some possible overlap. No judgment! Just sayin’!), that it’s sometimes difficult to decipher just what ex she’s talking about.
One song in particular has piqued fans’ interest over the years, as it’s not a wounded torch song at all, but a heartfelt apology to a man she was unkind to.
Taylor discussed the lyrics to “Back to December” in a candid 2010 interview.
She admitted that the song was “a first,” as she’d never apologized in song form before, but she stopped just short of revealing whom she was singing about.
Now, we finally have a solution to that years-old mystery thanks to the detective work of – Lea Michele?
Yes, believe it or not it took a bit of relentless interrogation from the former Glee star to confirm a theory fans have held for years:
After a bit of cajoling, Lea did what dozens of interviewers have been unable to do:
She got Taylor Lautner to admit that “Back to December” was indeed written about him.
Sadly, Ms. Michele couldn’t get him to talk about what she did that was so terrible she felt the need to apologize in song form.
Must have been pretty bad if Lautner won’t even discuss it.
This is a guy who’s friends with Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson.
He knows relationship drama!

Jenelle Evans: Mystery Illness SOLVED on "The Doctors"!
For nearly two months, Jenelle Evans has been battling a mystery illness that has been so debilitating she thought she may have to quit Teen Mom 2.
She sought help from numerous specialists, but she didn"t buy the diagnosis of anxiety most of them gave her.
Finally, she turned to CBS"s The Doctors, and they believe they have the answer.
“Six weeks ago, everything was going great with my career, and then I just had to put everything on hold,” she said during an episode of the show.
She complained of night sweats, severe anxiety, hot flashes, pelvic pain, joint pain, chest tightness, abdominal pain, loss of appetite and a host of other symptoms.
After a thorough intake, examination and testing, an endocrinologist and an OB/GYN finally determined the root of her problems:
Birth control pills and withdrawal from marijuana.
The reality star had recently begun taking a new birth control pill, and the doctors deduced that her body had an adverse reaction.
They pointed out that not everyone reacts to birth control pills the same way and suggested she either change pills or find a new method of contraception.
When asked if she had planned to have any more kids in the near future, thankfully, she said no.
The physicians also noted that her system may be reacting to a sudden absence of marijuana. Jenelle said she smoked for "years and years and years" but quit in December.
She explained she is fighting her mother for custody of her son Jace and wanted to clean up her act.
The medical team also suggested Jenelle seek counseling for her anxiety, which has been known to exacerbate symptoms.
But we don"t know if a counselor can make her anxiety disappear completely as she still faces assault charges, is mired in two separate custody battles and feuds with fellow Teen Moms on an almost weekly basis.
Still, we"re happy Jenelle is making positive changes in her life and getting the help she needs.
