Ohio State University: Active Shooter Reported on Campus

A frightening situation is underway in Columbus, Ohio.

According to local authorities, at least seven people have been taken to a hospital after an active shooter was reported on the campus of Ohio State University.

It is not known at this time the type of injuries nor conditions of those transported.

The school’s emergency management department sent out a Tweet about an hour ago that alerted students to the ongoing situation.

It urged them to take shelter, to be safe and to fight back if necessary; and it gave them an idea of where the shooter had been spotted.

“Active Shooter on campus. Run Hide Fight. Watts Hall. 19th and College,” read the first message.

It was followed a few minutes later by: “Continue to shelter in place. Avoid area of College. More information to follow.”

Around 10:20 a.m., the department wrote once more: “Continue to shelter in place in north campus area. Follow directions of Police on scene.”

Watts Hall, one of the locations referenced above, is the university’s materials science and engineering building.

Ohio State senior Anthony Falzarano has already been in contact with CNN, telling the network that he was in class at the time of the shooting.

“We heard a lot of sirens. I was in class and everyone got a text message at the same time for the emergency alert,” the 22-year old said.

“Someone said they heard popping right before we got the alert, but I didn’t hear it. We are in a shelter-in-place right now in the building next door.”

A spokeswoman for the Columbus Fire Department confirms that two people are listed as stable at Grant Medical Center and two others are at Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center.

However, their status is unclear.

NBC Nightly News reports that the FBI, Columbus Police and other agencies are helping the Ohio State University Police on campus.

Courtesy of social media, here is a look at authorities gathered on the scene:

Among others, Ohio Governor John Kasich have taken to Twitter to address the situation.

“Ohio’s thoughts and prayers go out to the Ohio State community. Be safe, listen to first responders,” wrote the former Presidential candidate.

Added Ohio Senator Rob Portman said:

“My and Jane’s thoughts and prayers are with the Ohio State community. Please be safe and listen to our first responders.”

Ohio State University’s main campus in Columbus is one of the largest in the United States. It played host to a major college football game against the Michigan Wolverines on Saturday, which the Buckeyes won in double overtime.

The university has more than 65,000 students enrolled across the state.

Sophomore Wyatt Crosher has also been in touch with CNN.

He says heard gunfire (maybe “three or four gunshots”) that he thinks came from a class building across the street from his dorm.

Students have been told told to keep their distance from this area while authorities investigate.

John Enochs Gets Probation, One Day in Jail in Rape Case; Victim Sues Indiana University, Fraternity

A woman who accused ex-Indiana University student John Enochs of rape has filed a lawsuit against Indiana University and his fraternity.

Enochs, accused of raping two students, pleaded guilty to a lesser charge in a deal with prosecutors that could spare him jail time.

As it is, he served one day behind bars; Enochs will serve a full year of jail time, but only if he violates probation, officials confirmed.

He was charged in 2015 with two counts of rape stemming from alleged incidents in 2013 and 2015, according to court documents.

The 2013 incident was dismissed and the count pertaining to the 2015 incident was amended to a low-level felony offense of battery.

Enochs pleaded guilty to that battery charge.

The court entered the charge as a misdemeanor instead of a felony, which was up to its discretion. Hence the lighter punishment.

The sentence, not unlike the Brock Turner Stanford rape case, drew criticism from many observers for being what some say is too lenient.

Now, a lawsuit filed by the victim says school officials and administrators “showed deliberate indifference to actual notice of this sexual assault.”

Moreover, the school “condoned Delta Tau Delta fostering an environment of illegal and dangerous activity, as well as sexual assault.”

The woman, a fellow Indiana University student, testified that she attended a party hosted by Enochs’ fraternity back in April 2015.

After passing out from drinking, she was woken by Enochs “forcefully raping her,” according to a press release about the lawsuit.

Attorney Jeff Herman says in the release:

“There were many red flags that the school and the fraternal organization ignored which ultimately led to my client being sexually assaulted.”

Even more suspect to his many critics?

Enochs has previously been accused of rape in two separate incidents, according to court records and multiple media reports.

Robert Miller, the chief deputy prosecuting attorney in Monroe County, said he tried to speak to the prior alleged victims before the plea.

The 2015 accuser “never returned our calls, while the 2013 accuser “exchanged messages but it didn’t work out and we were up against a deadline.”

Enochs’ defense attorneys said prosecutors “acknowledged through their voluntary dismissal of the rape charges” that he is not a rapist.

“John Enochs did not rape anyone and he should never have been charged with these offenses,” his defense team pointedly stated.

The fraternity member “presented evidence to demonstrate his innocence of the sensationalized and false charges.”

After which, his attorneys maintain, “the prosecutor’s office, on their own motion, dismissed both rape charges.”

“John Enochs did admit to conduct in one instance that the Court found to be a misdemeanor.”

“He is profoundly sorry for his lack of judgment and apologizes for his conduct.”

Bill Cosby -- Fordham University Pulls Honorary Doctorate

Z STAFF

EXCLUSIVE

0924-bill-cosby-getty-01Bill Cosby has lost another ally … Fordham University has destroyed the honorary doctorate given to the comedian in 2001.

During a Board of Trustees meeting on Thursday, Fordham president Joseph McShane introduced a motion to cut Cosby’s doctorate — board members unanimously agreed. This is the first time in school history a person has lost an honorary degree.

In a statement to students, the school said, “The University has taken this extraordinary step in light of Mr. Cosby’s now-public court depositions that confirm many of the allegations made against him.”

You might remember … Spelman College cut ties with Cosby in July.
