Scandal Season 5 Episode 7 Recap: Does the Devil Deserve a Second Chance?

Following those pesky impeachment hearings, Fitz issued a public statement/apology to open Scandal Season 5 Episode 7.

He attempted to earn their trust back by vowing to work tirelessly for each and every one of them.

From there, Olivia dodged Abby’s questions about how she actually ended said impeachment hearings, though Abby gave her rival a knowing glance later on when Liv played dumb over Rowan’s “escape” from prison.

When Olivia got back home home, found finds Jake on her sofa. He blamed her for Elise’s demise and told her that she is Rowan’s greatest achievement.

Ouch! Burn! Olivia asked Jake to leave in response.

We then head to the Oval Office, where Olivia is camped out on the President’s couch… much to Cyrus’ chagrin. He realizes that she is really second in charge, not him, but that doesn’t stop Cyrus from telling Fitz to call off the FBI search for Rowan.

POTUS replies that he’s decided to go in a different direction.

At OPA, Huck has a few words to say to Olivia about her dad, believing Rowan will bring back B613 – but Olivia tells him the company is out of the spy business.

She then meets up with a woman named Hannah Taylor, who has been waiting in her office.

Taylor needs help getting justice against her rapist, Frank Holland, the man receiving the Presidential Medal of Freedom. After hearing Hannah’s tale, Olivia heads to the White House.

Elsewhere, Abby learns from Liz North that Sally Langston has offered her an exclusive sit-down regarding her time in the White House.

She insists on being given a job within the President’s inner circle … or she’ll become a “lover of liberty.” Well played, Sally.

Cut to the Oval Office, where see that Jake is Fitz’s “different direction.” He plans to kill Rowan after he tracks him down.

Olivia and Quinn later meet with Frank Holland to ask him about the Hannah Taylor situation. He denies all allegations, saying Hannah plagiarized a paper for Holland’s class.

So, as you’ll note when you watch Scandal online, Quinn and Marcus set out to find more women Holland may have raped in order to help their case… and hit the jackpot.

Meanwhile, David is unable to prevent Liz from walking out of his office to give the interview with Sally Langston after she senses that this scheme has Cyrus Beene written all over it.

The Case of the Week concludes with the discovery that Holland’s wife is in total control, she doesn’t even let her husband talk. Hmmm… we wonder if this supposed to mirror anything going on within the White House.

Especially after Cyrus finds Olivia in the Oval Office again and Fitz takes her suggestion to let Liz go on air. He also makes Liz North Susan’s new Chief of Staff.

We end with Liz and David Rosen having sex (!!!!!) and with Cyrus confronting Olivia about her power inside the White House.

She better learn to wield it wisely.

Where will this all go on Scandal Season 5 Episode 8? We’ll be tuning in to find out!

Grey"s Anatomy Season 12 Episode 6 Recap: A New Doctor is In

A Penny for your thoughts on Grey’s Anatomy Season 12 Episode 6, fans?

Get it? A Penny? In honor of Derek’s quasi killer? Nothing? Crickets? Okay, moving on to a recap…

Meredith (and Amelia) opened the hour by being less than pleased that Penny was about to start working at Grey Sloan.

And it didn’t help matter when (wouldn’t you know it?!?) Bailty assigned the transfer student to the service of the General Surgery Chief.

As Julia Roberts might have someday side: Big mistake. HUGE.

Despite the comedic material present in a case that centered on a pastor who fell down the stairs after mistakenly sending his sex tape to his congregation, Meredith didn’t even crack a smile when Penny made a joke.

She told Amelia that she was trying to “rise above,” but she wasn’t exactly succeeding.

It didn’t help when Penny later messed up a bit and when Richard admitted he knew her connection to Derek; she was just the best hire.

After Penny placed the pastor’s life in danger through a mistake, Meredith finally snapped:

“You froze in the OR, you screwed up his post-op care… Is there any part of this job that you can handle?!?”

Later on, however, Callie gave Meredith a talking-to about being a “bully,” prompting Meredith to enter a chapel and talk to Derek. (With Alex showing up to offer support.)

At the end of the episode, Meredith acknowledged that Derek likely would have been a fan of Penny; Callie swapped spit with her girlfriend; and Meredith paged to say she wants Penny on her service for the duration of the week.

Elsewhere, Martin Henderson made his debut as Nathan Riggs, a cardiothoracic surgeon who met April overseas.

He got in the middle of a fight between April and Jackson over a patient (“This isn’t about you two!”), only for viewers to later learn that he and Owen share some kind of unfriendly past.

How do we know? Because Owen ordered the new doctor to get the Hell out of the hospital as quickly as possible.

Based on the following preview for Grey’s Anatomy Season 12 Episode 7, it sure looks like this rivalry will continue to play a key role next Thursday night:

Check out the above teaser and ask yourself: How is there only one episode remaining until the winter finale?!?!?!?!?

Jessa Duggar Welcomes First Child!

The Duggar family now has another family member to count.

Sources have confirmed to People Magazine that Jessa Seewald (née Duggar) and husband Ben Seewald have welcomed their first child into the world.

They are officially the proud parents of a baby boy, as also confirmed by Jessica Seewald on Instagram via the message “I’m an Auntie!”

No other details – weight, length, name – have been made available at this time.

Jessa, who had documented every stage of her pregnancy up until birth, just shared a picture this week of herself at “#40Weeks2Days.” She was due to become a first-time mother on November 1.

Having revealed her expecting state in April, Jessa has kept followers abreast of her growing baby bump and her pregnancy cravings (such as tacos and ice cream) on Instagram for the past several months.

In late May, of course, Jessa and sister Jill Duggar (who also gave birth this year, to a boy named Israel) made news for a reason wholly unrelated to being pregnant.

It became public knowledge that the siblings were both molested by older brother Josh Duggar when he was a teenager.

They proceeded to defend their family for the way it covered up Josh’s scandal, lashing out at the media for how it has portrayed them as victims in the time since this unsettling news broke.

TLC, meanwhile, will air a three-part reality show special titled “Counting On” in December that chronicles the lives of Jessa and Jill over the past few months.

It’s safe to assume Jessa’s birth and newborn son will now be a focal point on that program.

It’s also safe to assume we’ll be inundated with plenty of photos and videos of Jessa, Ben and their precious bundle of joy in the coming days.

Let’s just hope they keep him very far away from Uncle Josh.

The Vampire Diaries Season 7 Episode 5 Recap: Phoenix Rising

All aboard the crazy train!

Sides were chosen on The Vampire Diaries Season 7 Episode 5, as multiple truths came to light and the Salvatore brothers once again found themselves aligned for a common cause:

The cold, brutal, violent, painful death of Julian.

We learned this week that The Phoenix Stone does not, in actuality, bring anyone back from the dead.

On the contrary, it fills a corpse with the spirit of a dark vampire who had been stuck in said Stone; meaning Oscar was not Oscar and Jo was not Jo.

Bonnie broke this sad news to Alaric, who fought back tears in front of Non-Jo and agreed to help her discover who actual identity.

She seems lost and lonely and confused in this news world, though it’s unclear if that’s some kind of act or really what is going on with the creature who inhabits who formerly pregnant and stabbed body.

Non-Oscar, meanwhile, met his demise at the hands of Enzo, who confronted Lily with everything he knew.

Lily responded with a full understanding of how the Stone works, telling Enzo she chooses it (and, by extension, Julian) over him because Julian’s spirit is actually one of the ones stuck in that nefarious rock.

If used properly, she really can bring Julian back from the dead with it… and that’s how we concluded the episode, with Nora and Mary Louise helping Lily use the Stone to match locked-up spirit with its true body.

So Julian is now alive again, but Damon and Stefan will both be looking to kill him very dead on The Vampire Diaries Season 7 Episode 6, each for a different reason:

  • Damon discovered that Lily was the one who told Kai to enact that whole sleeping curse on Elena.

  • Valerie came clean to Stefan about what Julian did to her, beating the baby she shared out of her womb all those years ago.

What will that latter admission mean for the future of Staroline? We shudder to think

In Flash Forward World, Bonnie confessed to a support group that she made a mistake a long time ago and “lost” someone she loved as a result.

Who might that be?!?

As you ponder those possibilities, ponder this as well: three years in the future, we also saw Enzo meet up with Bonnie inside some kind of rehab center, tell her things are pretty bad outside… and then totally make out with her!

WHAT THE WHAT?

Check out scenes from next week’s installment and go watch The Vampire Diaries online if you need to catch up before then.
