Jeremy Roloff Details Daughter"s Scary Doctor Visit, Gives Thanks
Jeremy Roloff and Audrey Roloff just recently returned from a trip to Hawaii.
As you might imagine, the vacation was filled with beautiful sunsets, walks on the beach, quality time with their daughter and even a bit of midriff revealed by Audrey.
By multiple social media accounts, it sounds like the Little People, Big World stars had a great time.
With the exception of what sort of scary evening, that is.
Late Friday, Jeremy took to Instagram and shared the image above.
It’s a gorgeous snapshot that features himself, his wife and their precious baby, who is about eight months old.
But Jeremy frightened followers by detailing one incident during the vacation in which Ember Jean had to be rushed to the doctor’s office.
“Our trip is almost over, and what a trip it’s been!” Jeremy wrote to open his caption to this photo.
He then turned a little more serious:
“Last night however, Ember came down with a random fever. It escalated high enough to take her in and get checked out – Audrey and I both took note that it was the nicest clinic.
“They said she appears to be fine, and must be fighting some virus and to keep her hydrated. So we did, and she appears to be on the up and up.”
Phew.
Thank goodness this was no big deal in the end.
All parents of little kids can relate to the horrible, helpless feeling of a young one not feeling well and not comprehending what is going on.
Just as his wife so often does, Jeremy went on to cite his faith and compare his situation in this case with that of Jesus Christ back in the day.
How so? Well…
“Man, now I know what it feels like when your child comes down with something – out of love you want to trade places with them,” Jeremy added, concluding as follows:
“It makes me thank Jesus, because that’s exactly what he did. Trades places with us – only death is far more eternal than a fever.”
Yes it is; far more eternal.
Jeremy and Audrey starred in last week’s new episode of Little People, Big World, which chronicled the latter’s labor and delivery.
The stars have been extremely candid about parenthood, detailing the ups, the downs and everything in between over the past several months.
We very much appreciate their honesty throughout this major life change.
And we’re so very relieved that Ember is doing okay. She really is SUCH a cutie, don’t you think?
Give her a big hug from us at The Hollywood Gossip, okay, guys? Thanks!

Larry Nassar: Team Doctor Who Molested Over 140 Girls Sentenced for Child Porn
Back in October, Olympic gymnast McKayla Maroney revealed how she was molested by her team doctor, Larry Nassar.
In November, teammate Aly Raisman added her name to the list of over 140 young women with their own stories of abuse in the guise of medical care by Dr. Nassar.
On Thursday, Larry Nassar was sentenced — not for sex abuse, but for child pornography charges.
Dr. Larry Nassar, who is 54 years old, has been in prison while awaiting sentencing.
During that time, McKayla Maroney and Aly Raisman revealed that Dr. Nassar had molested them, sharing their heartbreaking #MeToo stories with the world.
Like so many others, these Olympic superstars describe Dr. Nassar, at the time their team doctor, administering “treatments” to them under the guise of medical practice.
Olympic athletes (and others) often require legitimate therapies such as massage.
Nassar, it is described, would use these as opportunities to molest the young girls who had been entrusted to his care.
These monstrous deeds are evil to their core and unforgivable.
But, though Nassar has pleaded guilty to 10 counts of sexual assault (a drop in the bucket compared to the number of accusers), it is not for these heinous crimes that he’s been sentenced.
Larry Nassar was on trial for possession of child pornography.
How much child pornography? … asked virtually no one.
He was found to have come into possession of 37,000 images that constitute child pornography.
That almost certainly means that he was collecting photos of very real children who are victims or who were victims. Awful on its own, particularly if he then shared those images or in any way financially compensated the ones who gave them to him.
Dr. Nassar was also accused of trying to destroy those images in order to avoid being held accountable for possessing child pornography.
His sentence:
60 years in federal prison.
Federal Judge Janet Neff explained (though she really didn’t need to) her reasoning behind the decision:
That Larry Nassar “should never again have access to children.”
We strongly agree.
Possibly influencing the judge’s decision were impact statements from Nassar’s many victims, including McKayla Maroney.
“Dr. Nassar was not a doctor, he in fact is, was, and forever shall be, a child molester, and a monster of a human being.”
Agreed.
“It all started when I was 13 or 14 years old, at one of my first National Team training camps, in Texas, and it didn’t end until I left the sport.”
That is a nightmare.
“It seemed whenever and wherever this man could find the chance, I was ‘treated.’ It happened in London before my team and I won the gold medal, and It happened before I won my Silver Medal.”
Awful.
“For me, the scariest night of my life happened when I was 15 years old. I had flown all day and night with the team to get to Tokyo.”
This is not new information, and matches what she disclosed months ago. But that doesn’t mean that it was any easier for her to write.
“He’d given me a sleeping pill for the flight, and the next thing I know, I was all alone with him in his hotel room getting a ‘treatment.’ I thought I was going to die that night.”
McKayla’s mother, Erin Maroney, also gave an impact statement about how this traumatic experience changed her daughter’s life.
“This experience has been shattering to McKayla.”
Of course it was.
“She has transformed from a bubbly, positive, loving, world class athlete into a young adult who was deeply depressed, at times suicidal and essentially descended into an emotional abyss.”
Abusing a child is a tragedy that can never be undone. They can heal, but they’ll never recover the formative years that they lost to trauma.
“At times I was unsure whether I would open her bedroom door and find her dead.”
We are eternally grateful that this monster’s abuses did not claim McKayla’s life.
“Her father and I have been living this nightmare for years and until recently we felt hopeless. Nassar and those individuals and institutions that protected him almost snuffed out my daughter.”
Michegan State University is accused of having helped to cover up Larry Nassar’s crimes. They adamantly deny it.

Aly Raisman: Olympic Gymnast Reveals She Was Sexually Assaulted By Team Doctor
Olympic medalist Aly Raisman has become the latest member of the Us Women’s Gymnastics team to accuse Dr. Larry Nassar of sexual abuse.
The disgraced Nassar served as the team’s primary physician for several years.
He first treated Raisman when she was just 15 years old.
Raisman’s former teammate, McKayla Maroney, accused Nassar of sexual assault last month,
In an interview with 60 Minutes that’s set to air on Sunday night, Raisman describes her abuse and the ways in which she feels the US Gymnastics program failed Nassar’s victims:
“Why are we looking at why didn’t the girls speak up?” Raisman said in a clip released by CBS today.
“Why not look at what about the culture? What did USA Gymnastics do, and Larry Nassar do, to manipulate these girls so much that they are so afraid to speak up?”
Asked if she’s angry about the way she and her teammates have been treated, Raisman replied:
“I am angry. I’m really upset because it’s been — I care a lot, you know, when I see these young girls that come up to me, and they ask for pictures or autographs, whatever it is, I just — I can’t — every time I look at them, every time I see them smiling, I just think — I just want to create change so that they never, ever have to go through this.”
Now 23, Raisman achieved fame as a member of the “Fierce Five” team of American gymnasts that wowed audiences with their dominant performance at the 2012 Olympics.
Raisman competed again in the 2016 games, bringing her career medal count to six.
On October 18, Maroney first revealed the abuse she had suffered at Nassar’s hands in response to the trending “#MeToo” hashtag.
“It seemed whenever and wherever this man could find the chance, I was ‘treated.’ It happened in London before my team and I won the gold medal, and it happened before I won my silver,” Maroney said at the time.
She went on to describe one encounter with Nassar as “the scariest night of my life.”
Dozens of women have accused Nassar of sexual misconduct, and he is currently awaiting trial on 33 criminal charges, ranging from rape to possession of child pornography.
In a statement issued today, the US Gymnastics program praised Raisman for coming forward with her own account of Nassar’s abuse:
“In the last year, Aly has become an advocate for many issues, and sharing her personal experience of abuse takes great courage,” the statement reads.
“We are appalled by the conduct of which Larry Nassar is accused, and we are very sorry that any athlete has been harmed during her or his gymnastics career.”
The organization concluded:
“Aly’s passion and concern for athlete safety is shared by USA Gymnastics.”
We’ll have further updates on this story as more information becomes available.

McKayla Maroney: My Team Doctor Molested Me
As the “#MeToo” campaign continues, stars like Game of Thrones actress Lena Headey have come forward with near-miss horror stories of sexual harassment by Harvey Weinstein. We’ve heard other stars like Reese Witherspoon reveal their own tragic histories of sexual assault in the entertainment industry.
Countless women — and men — have taken to social media to share their stories as non-celebrities.
Early this morning, decorated Olympic gymnast and meme star McKayla Maroney took to social media to share her own
McKayla Maroney is a household name, as much for her Olympic accomplishments as a gymnast as for her adorable looks.
Her expression of disappointment upon winning a silver medal is so iconic that it became a meme.
When she met President Barack Obama, the two posed together doing her meme body language and facial expression.
(The second place belt at my own trivia night is just called “The Maroney,” and has a large photo of a very disappointed McKayla Maroney on it)
Of course, McKayla Maroney is a gold medal gymnast and pretty much universally beloved.
And while no one questions that’s she’s gorgeous — McKayla isn’t shy about taking sexy gold medal selfies, and why should she be? — McKayla first rose to Olympic stardom when she was a minor.
She’s now come forward with her “#MeToo” story, and unfortunately it begins before she was an international icon.
McKayla shared her story on Twitter and, fair warning, this is tough to read.
“Everyone’s words over the past few days have been so inspiring to me. I know how hard it is to speak publicly about something so horrible, and so personal, because it’s happened to me too.”
We cannot imagine how difficult this was for her to write.
“People should know that this is not just happening in Hollywood. This is happening everywhere. Wherever there is a position of power, there seems to be potential for abuse. I had a dream to go to the Olympics, and the things that I had to endure to get there were unnecessary and disgusting.”
This should never, ever have happened. But it’s not her fault.
“I was molested by Dr. Larry Nassar, the team doctor for the US Women’s National Gymnastics Team and Olympic Team.”
Not everyone is naming names, for a variety of reasons. That’s every individual survivor’s decision to make. McKayla’s choice in naming her abuser was made a little easier.
Dr. Nassar, who was team doctor from 1996 to 2015, has already pleaded guilty to child porn charges and is set to stand trial for the sexual assault of nine different girls.
McKayla is certainly the highest profile Olympian to come forward.
“Dr. Nassar told me that I was receiving ‘medically necessary treatment that he had been performing on patients for over 30 years."”
That line is horrifying in two different ways. One: it’s how he used his authority to gain her confidence. Two: it’s a chilling suggestion that he could have countless other victims.
“It started when I was 13 years old, at one of my first National Team training camps, in Texas, and it didn’t end until I left the sport. It seemed whenever and wherever the man could find a chance, I was ‘treated."”
That is absolutely monstrous.
“It happened in London before my team and I won the Gold Medal, and it happened before I won my Silver.”
There’s some very grim context for you.
“For me, the scariest night of my life happened when I was 15 years old. I had flown all day and night with the team to get to Tokyo. He’d given me a sleeping pill for the flight, and the next thing I know, I was all alone with him in his hotel room getting a ‘treatment.’ I thought I was going to die that night.”
That’s something out of a nightmare, but for McKayla, it’s just part of her life.
“Things have to change … but how do we begin? I’m not expert, but here are my thoughts.”
She presents a formula for repairing our broken world.
“One: speaking out, and bringing awareness to the abuse that is happening.”
This can be the most frightening and dangerous. Just saying that you were a victim can change the way that people see you and bring accusationst hat it was your fault. Accusing someone, especially someone powerful, is much more intimidating.
“Two: people, institutions, organizations, especially those with positions of power, etc, need to be held accountable for their inappropriate actions and behavior.”
That’s absolutely right. If someone’s organization or company is standing by them after they’re accused, what does that say about the culture? Nothing good.
“Three: educate and prevent, no matter the cost.”
Remember, this nightmare began for McKayla when she was just 13. A doctor with a lot of authority told her something, and every ounce of social conditioning told her to take him at his word.
People need to know how to recognize abuse. And adults need to know how to respond when they hear about this.
“Four: have zero tolerance for abusers and those who protect them.”
This is perhaps the most important one. Did you know that Johnny Depp is still getting work? Did you know that, though Weinstein’s been expelled, Bill Cosby and Woody Allen are still part of the Academy?
Abusers should never know peace or love or friendship. That shouldn’t be a radical statement, folks; we’re talking about monsters who ruin lives.
McKayla finishes this gut-wrenching but insightful post with some educated optimism.
“Is it possible to put an end to this type of abuse? Is it possible for survivors to speak out without putting their careers and dreams in jeopardy? I hope so.”
We hope so, too.
“Our silence has given the wrong people power for too long and it’s time to take our power back. And remember, it’s never too late to speak up.”
McKayla Maroney is such a good person. We don’t deserve her.
And she deserves a lot better than what life has handed her.
Thank you, McKayla, for speaking up.

Anti-Transgender Doctor Rants: It"s Chemical Castration!
Sometimes, political rants go viral because someone does a great job of articulating a complicated point and people are impressed and want to share that message with others.
But there are other, very different political rants that get popular for all of the wrong reasons.
One that’s been getting a lot of attention is this one by a doctor who claims that “transgender ideology” is harming children.
One of the saddest things about any push for acceptance or basic civil rights is the backlash from people who are, in most cases, entirely unaffected but who feel threatened.
It was not a coincidence that segregationist rhetoric intensified and Confederate Memorials went up during the ’50s and ’60s, when black Americans were pushing for equal rights.
With the push for marriage equality in the early 2000s, social conservatives doubled down on their anti-gay ideologies and intensified their rhetoric.
So it is unfortunately no surprise that increased visibility for trans folks and pushes for equality have seen a furious backlash in response.
That’s how you get people like Derick Dillard blasting trans teen reality star Jazz Jennings on Twitter … repeatedly.
Just as with other groups who just want the right to exist and equal treatment under the law and from society, trans folks have been targeted with junk science and accusations that their very existence is somehow a threat to children.
And perhaps nothing encapsulates that as thoroughly as the rant by Dr. Michelle Cretella, President of the American College of Pediatrics, before the Heritage Foundation.
It’s important to note that the American College of Pediatrics is literally just an advocacy group comprised of socially conservative doctors. Their views do not represent those of doctors or pediatricians as a whole.
Reiterating points that she’s made before, Michelle Cretella laid into trans folks and argued that science proves that they don’t exist.
“Chemical castration is what you’re doing when you put any biologically normal child on puberty blockers. It’s treating puberty like a disease, arresting a normal process which is critical to normal development and bad for kids.”
The reason that a trans child would want to go on puberty blockers is to stop themselves from developing secondary sex characteristics that they don’t want.
The thing about puberty blockers is that, if you “change your mind” as conservative groups like hers love to claim that trans kids so often do, it’s entirely reversible and you can then go through puberty normally.
“Sterilization: not good for kids. Prepping them for what will likely result in a case in girls a double mastectomy at 16 — not how you treat depression or anxiety and I have plenty of experience treating teenagers with depression, anxiety, even suicidal depression.”
By “girls,” she means trans guys, and the vast majority of trans people don’t get top surgery until adulthood — if at all. If a trans guy goes on puberty blockers before puberty, he’s not going to need a mastectomy, period.
“Indoctrinating pre-school kids with the lie that you can be trapped in the wrong body, again, that’s disrupting their normal reality testing and cognitive development. Those things are abusive.”
Not all trans folks see their bodies as wrong — gender isn’t genitals and some people are happy with their bodies, but not the way that society views them in terms of gender.
Also, obviously, telling children that trans people exist isn’t abusive. Kids learn about the world and trans people aren’t inappropriate. And “transgender-ness” isn’t contagious.
“As to the studies, there are two that I am aware of that claim affirming your child’s gender confusion is good for them. Number one, it assumes that coaching a child into a fixed-false belief is mentally healthy.”
It’s intuitively obvious that affirming your child’s gender — trans kids aren’t confused — is healthier for them than rejecting who they are and trying to force them to change.
“Science doesn’t allow you to assume your conclusion. Number two, those studies are extremely small. Number three, those studies are very short term.”
The studies are small because studying real children can be difficult, mostly because of ethical concerns.
“And number four, the control group of ‘mentally healthy children’ are the siblings, most of them are siblings of the trans-identifying child.”
We don’t know to which study she’s referring with that.
“Oh, and there’s a number five, the parents were the ones evaluating the mental health of the children.”
Again, ethical concerns.
“This is not science…I don’t think you need to have an M.D. or a Ph.D to know that’s not science — that’s ideology masquerading as science.”
She doesn’t seem to discuss any remedies for how a study could be conducted to more thoroughly examine the development of trans children. Probably because she privately understands that there are ethical issues.
Fortunately, we and common sense aren’t the only ones who are interested in refuting Michelle Cretella’s claims.
A group of medical professionals at the Society for Adolescent Health and Medicine issued a refutation of Dr. Michelle Cretella’s assertions that she’s made in the past.
There’s a long list of arguments that she’d made, complete with citations.
It’s interesting to note, as they do, that Cretella argues against allowing trans youths to take puberty blockers in part because, though she did not mention this in her rant, no one seems to know of any cases in which trans kids who took blockers later discontinued them to go through puberty normally.
To hear Cretella talk, you’d think that this was evidence that puberty blockers double as some sort of mind-control.
Instead, it’s pointed out that it’s more likely that those trans kids who went on blockers were trans, just as they’d known that they were.
Fortunately, between open access to the boundless information on the internet, support network of increasingly socially conscious young peers, and the existence of trans celebrities who shine a spotlight on trans issues, there’s hope for young trans people.
Unfortunately, a tragically high number of trans children who face rejection at home because of their gender aren’t likely to survive to adulthood.
Some are kicked out or subjected to abuse that prompts them to run away.
Others cannot accept living the lie that their parents would impose upon them and take their own lives instead.
Unfortunately, while rants like the ones from Michelle Cretella aren’t going to mind-control trans people into no longer existing, the repetition about lies about the transgender community can have a pernicious impact on parents of trans kids.
And that can cause real harm.

Joy-Anna Duggar Got Pregnant Before Marriage, Doctor Claims
Ever since Joy-Anna Duggar revealed that she’s pregnant with her first child, there’s been speculation about when exactly she conceived.
The announcement came just three months after Joy-Anna married Austin Forsyth in a ceremony that was initially scheduled to take place several months later.
It was enough to spark fan rumors about “Joy-Anna’s shotgun wedding.”
The Duggars famously forbid just about any form of pre-marital physical contact, so the news that Joy-Anna got pregnant out of wedlock would be devastating to their carefully crafted public image.
Earlier this week, Joy-Anna posted a politically charged Instagram post, in which she railed against abortion while offering fans the latest on her pregnancy.
“Can’t wait to meet our baby!! I got to feel it kick for the first time a few days ago!!!” Joy-anna wrote.
“Soooooo amazing!!! It’s already about the size of a bell pepper and weighs around half a pound!!!” she added.
Several fans took to the comments section to point out that the conditions Joy-Anna is describing typically occur several weeks further along in a pregnancy.
Now, a doctor (who, it should be noted, has not treated Joy-Anna personally) has confirmed to Radar Online that based on her photos and descriptions, Joy-Anna got pregnant much earlier than she claims.
“She looks about 24-26 weeks pregnant,” Dr. Sean Henry tells Radar.
“People start feeling fetal movement between 19-21 weeks. She looks bigger than 20 weeks.”
Henry, of course, is not the first doctor to confirm what so many fans already suspected.
When Joy-Anna announced she was expecting and claimed to be only three months along, Dr. Stuart Fischer informed Radar that the 19-year-old appeared to be “four to five months pregnant.”
The news will come as no surprise to the many fans who have already theorized that Joy-Anna is being less than truthful about her conception date.
“She looks dang close to delivery,” one fan wrote on Joy-Anna’s latest post. “There is something amiss about her date of conception.”
“Sex before marriage is forbidden by God but you certainly had no problem with that now did you? #Hypocrites,” commented another.
Before announcing the pregnancy, Joy-Anna and Austin admitted to breaking courtship rules, but it was widely assumed that they held hands for more than a few seconds or spent unsupervised time alone (both of which are forbidden by the Duggars).
Now, it looks as though the Duggars may have another scandal on their hands thanks to mounting evidence that Joy-Anna got pregnant out of wedlock.
