Jim Carrey: Cathriona White Wrongful Death Suit Dismissed
In September of 2015, Jim Carrey’s girlfriend Cathriona White committed suicide. It was tragic. And the tragedy was only compounded afterwards.
Accusing Jim Carrey of a slew of misdeeds, from allegedly surprising White with three different STDs to, per these accusations, being responsible for furnishing the drugs that led to her death.
Jim Carrey was being sued by White’s mother and by her estranged ex-husband. We say was being sued, because Carrey reportedly no longer faces these suits.
Jim Carrey and Cathriona White met in 2012, and from then on had an on-again, off-again relationship.
Tragically, in 2015, Cathriona took her own life in late September. In her suicide note, she mentioned that she and Carrey had broken up just days earlier.
What was already a sad story of a 28-year-old woman lost to suicide became even sadder when Cathriona’s estranged ex-husband, Mark Burton, brought a wrongful death suit against Jim Carrey.
The suit alleged that Jim Carrey had provided Cathriona with the drugs while knowing that she was prone to depression and might be at risk for suicidal behavior.
Brigid Sweetman, Cathriona White’s own mother, became part of Jim Carrey’s legal battle.
It was also alleged that Carrey had knowingly passed three STDs on to Cathriona White without warning her.
Jim Carrey slammed Cathriona’s estranged ex with a tasteful statement explaining that he intended to fight the allegations against him.
“What a terrible shame. It would be easy for me to get in a back room with this man’s lawyer and make this go away, but there are some moments in life when you have to stand up and defend your honor against the evil in this world.”
A lot of people might try to sue celebrities, hoping for a quick payout. Clearly, that wasn’t going to happen here.
“I will not tolerate this heartless attempt to exploit me or the woman I loved. Cat’s troubles were born long before I met her and sadly her tragic end was beyond anyone’s control.”
More than anything, Jim Carrey hoped for the legal struggle to end.
“I really hope that some day soon people will stop trying to profit from this and let her rest in peace.”
Jim Carrey filed countersuit in 2017.
In the suit, Jim Carrey’s legal team addressed the STD claims in particular.
According to their documents, filed in L.A., it appeared that Cathriona White had used her old STD panel results as well as a friend’s to fabricate a counterfit STD panel showing that she was clean.
In reality, it appears that she had hepatisis A, herpes, and Chlamydia.
(One has to question why her loved ones would want to call attention to her STD status with a lawsuit)
Apparently, Jim Carrey’s legal team did their work well.
People now reports that the lawsuit against Jim Carrey has been dismissed.
Which means that Jim Carrey no longer faces a civil trial over Cathriona White’s death.
This is a tragic situation, but whether it was grief or greed that fueled the legal action against him, the court sided with Carrey.
After Cathriona’s tragic passing, Jim Carrey was a pallbearer at her funeral in her native Ireland.
He also put out this statement, which is a much better way to remember her than the unflattering details of any lawsuits.
Carrey said:
“She was a truly kind and delicate Irish flower, too sensitive for this soil, to whom loving and being loved was all that sparkled.”
Beautiful words.

Meadow Walker and Porsche Settle Wrongful Death Suit
Nothing can bring back the late, great Paul Walker.
But his daughter, Meadow Walker, knows this. She’s been waging a battle to find justice for her father’s senseless, but ultimately preventable, death.
And it appears that she has now won.
In 2013, Paul Walker died as the result of a fatal collision. He was not the only fatality in the crash, but it’s his death that tore at the hearts of millions of fans.
His death had a stronger and more personal impact on the cast of the The Fast And The Furious franchise, who were like family to him and regarded him in the same manner.
But Paul Walker also left behind a daughter.
Meadow Walker is now 18.
She’s inherited her father’s humanitarian spirit, his passion for environmentalism, and his stunning good looks.
Seriously:
Meadow has been working to get justice for her late father.
No parent wants their child to have to fight that sort of battle for them, but sometimes, that’s how life works out.
Last April, Meadow Walker was awarded $ 10.1 million in a settlement from the estate of Roger Rodas,
Roger Rodas was the man driving the car and therefore, it was decided, partially liable for the accident that ended his life and Paul Walker’s.
(Of course, that settlement represents a tiny fraction of the amount of money that Paul Walker would have gone on to earn had his life and career not been cut tragically short)
But the grim details of the crash aren’t as simple as Paul Walker dying from the impact.
Because he survived the initial impact.
It was determined that he was trapped and injured by the seatbelt of the Carrera GT (made by Porsche), and that he was therefore unable to escape .. and burned to death.
That’s horrible for anyone to imagine. It’s even worse for Meadow Walker to live with that knowledge.
So Meadow Walker’s legal team has also been working on a wrongful death suit aimed at Porsche.
Her team has been arguing that Porsche knew that the Carrera GT was defective in this way but didn’t do enough to correct the problem.
The Blast has obtained documents that Meadow Walker and Porsche have settled.
The details of the resolution have not been made public, but both parties involved have asked that the suit be dismissed.
Paul Walker’s father had filed a separate suit against Porsche, which also appears to have been dismissed.
Whatever the settlement that the parties involved agreed upon, this must come as a tremendous relief for Meadow Walker.
It can be so hard to be at peace with loss, but maybe with this legal fight behind her, she can feel like there’s just a little bit more closure.
Losing a loved one like that will never be okay. Not four years later, and not forty.
But being secure in the knowledge that you did all that you could to get justice? That goes a long way towards bringing some peace of mnd.
And, again, Meadow Walker’s commitment to great causes in her father’s name amount to a very worthy tribute to the late, beloved actor.

Joan Rivers Wrongful Death Suit Settled, Melissa Rivers Ready to Move Forward
Melissa Rivers got a bit of closure today.
While nothing could replace her mother, the comedic legend Joan Rivers, Melissa announced that the multimillion dollar malpractice lawsuit she brought against Yorkville Endoscopy has been settled.
Melissa filed the suit against the facility, which she claimed was negligent in caring for her mother during a minor throat surgery to treat acid reflux.
In a statement given to Us Weekly, Melissa wrote the following:
“In accepting this settlement, I am able to put the legal aspects of my mother’s death behind me and ensure that those culpable for her death have accepted responsibility for their actions quickly and without equivocation.
“Moving forward, my focus will be to ensure that no one ever has to go through what my mother, [my son] Cooper and I went through and I will work towards ensuring higher safety standards in out-patient surgical clinics.
“I want to express my personal gratitude to my legal team for their wise counsel and prompt resolution of this case.”
The late Fashion Police host went into the outpatient clinic in 2014 to have the surgery, but died from complications several days later.
Melissa alleged the center was guilty of gross medical malpractice when they failed to perform an emergency tracheotomy on her mother after she stopped breathing.
The doctors also waited several minutes before calling 911 – a move that may have cost the star her life.
Adding insult to injury, one of the physicians treating Joan also snapped a selfie with the comic as she lay unconscious on the operating table.
The amount of the settlement was not disclosed.
“We have agreed to keep the terms of the settlement confidential to make certain that the focus of this horrific incident remains on improved patient care and the legacy of Joan Rivers,” stated Melissa’s legal team.
