Melissa Joan Hart SLAMMED for Insensitive Hurricane Remarks!
Melissa Joan Hart has people riled up again, and this time, it’s for more than just complaining about the Kardashians on 9/11.
You know how the Atlantic is spawning huge, deadly hurricanes in rapid succession? Melissa Joan Hart posted about one of them in a way that many of her followers found to be painfully insensitive.
It was bad enough that she deleted it. … That was the right call.
Back in the ’90s, Melissa Joan Hart was one of the most famous faces out there.
Even before she was starring in movies, she dealt out life lessons on Clarissa Explains It All.
She was and remains best known for her starring role on Sabrina The Teenage Witch.
It was the keystone of ABC Family’s “TGIF” lineup, a couple of decades before the network became Freeform.
(By the way, they’re doing a new Sabrina show — as a spinoff of Riverdale. They just announced it today and I’m super excited)
I fondly remember watching Sabrina as one of the rare times when my parents would let us eat in front of the television like real people instead of enduring family conversations.
Since then, most of the cast have faded into relative obscurity (or voice acting).
The woman who played Aunt Zelda now shows up as the bad guy on various crime shows (NCIS, The Closer, Castle, etc).
As for Melissa Joan Hart? She shows up on camera sometimes, but these days she’s mostly just a mom. And she’s not usually controversial.
But this time, she absolutely was.
In a now-deleted Instagram post, Melissa Joan Hart posted a photo of a weather report that read:
“Maria has officially made landfall on the Caribbean island of Dominica as a Category 5 hurricane.”
A lot of us have been following the news of yet another massive, powerful storm developing in the Atlantic during such a short time.
In Melissa Joan Hart’s case, she had a personal motive for keeping her eye on the weather.
What brought on the backlash was her caption:
“And just like that, our family vacation is canceled. Such a bummer but we plan to hit the @nickresortpuntacana resort another time this year.”
That is, admittedly, an insensitive response to the news of such a devastating storm.
Comments were, as you can imagine, mixed.
Among them were supporters, detractors, and people with more nuanced views.
“I think you should be more concerned with the people that live there instead of your meaningless vacation.”
See, that one has such a hostile tone. They could have said that one without “meaningless,” you know?
“Wow…”
That one’s honest. (My first thought when I read her caption was “whoa”)
“Better safe than sorry. We do not want anything to happen to you or your family.”
That one’s a gentle way of reminding her that Category 5 storms routinely kill people.
And then she had her defenders.
“Calm down people, she can be a caring person and disappointed at the same time. It’s called being human.”
People can care about lots of things at once. Feeling frustrated that my dinner hasn’t arrived yet doesn’t mean that you don’t care about, like, world hunger or whatever.
Melissa Joan Hart definitely did the right thing by deleting the post, though.
To be fair, Melissa Joan Hart has stirred up controversy before.
She leans conservative — she even costarred with Sadie Robertson of Duck Dynasty in the film, God’s Not Dead 2.
She also backed Gary Johnson in 2016, which … was arguably the least favorable year to be one of the celebrities endorsing a third-party candidate, considering the consequences.
But none of that is, like, dire stuff. She’s a far cry from James Woods or worse.
And again, her usual response to news of disasters is to link to charitable options and to offer up her prayers for the victims.
This was, we think, just a mildly insensitive post to update people on her life.

Joan Lee Dies; Beloved Wife of Stan Lee Was 93
Joan Lee, the long-time wife of Marvel Comics creator Stan Lee, passed away on Thursday in Los Angeles.
She was 93 years old.
While Lee’s exact cause of death is unknown at this time, she suffered a stroke early in the week and was hospitalized as a result.
“I can confirm the sad news that Joan Lee passed away this morning quietly and surrounded by her family,” a spokesperson for Stan Lee and his family said in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter.
“The family ask that you please give them time to grieve and respect their privacy during this difficult time.”
Joan Lee was a former British hat model who married the comic book legend way back on December 5, 1947.
They had two children together, a daughter named Joan Celia, who was born in 1950; and a daughter named Jan, who tragically died three days after her birth in 1953.
Wrote Marvel in a statements of its own, paying tribute to its founder’s beloved wife of 69 years:
“We are so saddened to hear about the loss of Joan Lee.
“We lost a member of the Marvel family today and our thoughts and prayers go out to Stan and his daughter Joan in this difficult time.”
Just last year, Lee admitted that when he met Joan, he realized that she was “the girl I had been drawing all my life.”
She reportedly served as the inspiration behind Gwen Stacy, the first love of Spider-Man’s Peter Parker, who was portrayed on the big screen by Emma Stone in 2012.
“Stan has always said I have a cartoon face,” Joan Lee said in an interview in 2002. “I never felt that was kind of complimentary!”
Talking with passion and excitement about his wife with The Hollywood Reporter several months ago, Lee said the following:
“I’m a nut for English accents! She said, ‘May I help you?’ And I took a look at her, and I think I said something crazy like, ‘I love you.’
“I don’t remember exactly. But anyway, I took her to lunch… I think I proposed at lunch.”
In 1981, Stan and Joan moved from New York City to California so the former could work on developing Marvel television and movie projects.
Joan did voice work on a pair of 1990s animated Marvel shows, Fantastic Four (as Miss Forbes) and Spider-Man (as Madame Web). She also made a cameo in 2016’s X-Men: Apocalypse.
That’s her and her famous husband featured in a scene from last year’s blockbuster above.
“My mother is so out-of-the-box and talented,” Joan Celia told The Huffington Post in 2015.
She then said of her parents:
“It’s like watching a love story. It’s been such a joy. And I’ve gone into the world, and I’ve travelled, and I’ve done my art, but I’ll tell you:
“I’ve never found anything better than my parents – and their talent and genius, and their love story.”
Wow. How amazing and special.
We send our condolences to Joan Celia and Stan Lee and we hope Joan is resting in peace.

Joan Rivers: MURDERED For Exposing Michelle Obama as a Transsexual, Alex Jones Claims
This election year has been witness to some of the most ridiculous, fact-free rhetoric in the history of presidential politics, but just when you thought it couldn’t get any more ridiculous than the claim that Trump Tower has the nation’s best taco bowls, along comes Alex Jones:
For the uninitiated, Jones is a syndicated radio show host, and professional nutjob who’s spent several years appealing to the tinfoil-hat crowd with theories about the government faking the moon landing and staging the Sandy Hook massacre as an excuse to steal everyone’s guns.
His latest theory has to do with the death of comedian Joan Rivers who passed away in 2014 during a surgical procedure.
“Don’t forget, the famous comedienne Joan Rivers said, ‘Of course everyone knows she’s a tranny.’ She’s dead serious, ‘She’s a man,’ Jones says in the clip above.
“Deader than a doornail in a routine operation where basically she had fire poured down her throat and was a fire-breathing goblin. Dead on arrival. Shoot your mouth off, honey, you will die.
“I really think — her daughters don’t look like her — I really think this is some weird hoax they did again,” he said, “just like he didn’t get sworn in on the Bible, it was the Quran.
“All this weirdness, I mean, I used to laugh at this stuff, but man, it’s all about rubbing our noses in it.”
Yes, Jones really thinks the comedy legend’s goal wasn’t to mock everyone in equal measure to expose Michelle as a man. He goes on:
“I think it’s all an arranged marriage, it’s all completely fake and it’s this big sick joke because he’s obsessed with transgender, just like some weird cult or something. I think Michelle Obama is a man. I really do. I really do. I believe it.”
He goes on to claim that it’s common knowledge that Michelle is a man, and that President Obama frequently refers to her by her birth name, “Michael.”
Then he rants about Bono for a little bit and calls George Clooney a “maggot.”
It’s impossible to talk about Jones without sounding like you’re joking, but that’s really how the clip above plays out.
We’d like to play by Jones’ rules and claim that he’s clearly a 1,000-year-old lizard person who came to Earth in order to help Ted Cruz’s dad assassinate JFK, but we just can’t bring ourselves to stoop that low.
Although feel free to spread that around social media if you’re so inclined.

Joan Rivers Wrongful Death Suit Settled, Melissa Rivers Ready to Move Forward
Melissa Rivers got a bit of closure today.
While nothing could replace her mother, the comedic legend Joan Rivers, Melissa announced that the multimillion dollar malpractice lawsuit she brought against Yorkville Endoscopy has been settled.
Melissa filed the suit against the facility, which she claimed was negligent in caring for her mother during a minor throat surgery to treat acid reflux.
In a statement given to Us Weekly, Melissa wrote the following:
“In accepting this settlement, I am able to put the legal aspects of my mother’s death behind me and ensure that those culpable for her death have accepted responsibility for their actions quickly and without equivocation.
“Moving forward, my focus will be to ensure that no one ever has to go through what my mother, [my son] Cooper and I went through and I will work towards ensuring higher safety standards in out-patient surgical clinics.
“I want to express my personal gratitude to my legal team for their wise counsel and prompt resolution of this case.”
The late Fashion Police host went into the outpatient clinic in 2014 to have the surgery, but died from complications several days later.
Melissa alleged the center was guilty of gross medical malpractice when they failed to perform an emergency tracheotomy on her mother after she stopped breathing.
The doctors also waited several minutes before calling 911 – a move that may have cost the star her life.
Adding insult to injury, one of the physicians treating Joan also snapped a selfie with the comic as she lay unconscious on the operating table.
The amount of the settlement was not disclosed.
“We have agreed to keep the terms of the settlement confidential to make certain that the focus of this horrific incident remains on improved patient care and the legacy of Joan Rivers,” stated Melissa’s legal team.
