Kate Hudson Pays Tribute To Gary Marshall, Makes Us Cry

They worked together on his last film before he passed away on July 19th.

Their relationship, however, goes further back than this year’s ensemble, Mother’s Day.  Kate Hudson, who also starred in Marshall’s Raising Helen, penned a tribute to legendary director Garry Marshall today.

“Garry and I were shooting Mothers Day this past year my children came to visit the set,” she wrote.

“I was behind a wall about to do a scene waiting for the very words that every working actor is quite used to, ‘and….ACTION!’ Much to my pleasant surprise the voice booming from behind the wall was my son, Ryder.

“I couldn’t help but smile and after we finished the scene both Garry and I shared a moment. We knew in an instant that so many things come full circle.

Hudson recalled herself sitting on Marshall’s lap in 1987 yelling the same command on the set of Overboard, starring Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell.

“The circle of life is an amazing thing isn’t it…” Hudson recalls Marshall saying.

“In that moment he was more then my director, he was family. That moment meant way more then any success of any film. I looked around the set and saw faces I had known and seen since I was a little girl.

“In one flash of a moment there was so much recognition of how loyal, wonderful, kind, generous, funny and profound Garry was.”

Marshall died from pneumonia after suffering a stroke at a Burbank hospital; he was 81.

“He kept his loved ones close, he loved people, he loved making movies, he loved to laugh, he loved loved loved. And those of us who were fortunate to know him like this were so lucky,” Hudson said of Marshall, famous for films like Pretty Woman, The Princess Diaries and Beaches.

“The messages Garry shared with the world truly represented his character.   He wanted peace and the importance of family and connection to be at the forefront of everything he did.”

Marshall was as much a talent in front of the camera as he was behind.  He was brilliant as candy baron Walter Harvey in 1992’s A League of Their Own (directed by his sister, Penny Marshall), and equally as biting as a newspaper publisher 7 years later in Never Been Kissed.

Marshall was a rare breed, and Hudson said it best: He was funny and profound.  And a bit of a genius, if I do say so.

Taylor Swift: Experiencing Squad Problems Amidst Kimye Feud?!

Now that the Taylor Swift vs. Kim and Kanye feud is in full swing, other celebs are choosing sides and true loyalties are being revealed.

Thanks to her highly-publicized #Squad, you might think that Taylor would have the upper hand in the famous allies department, but thus far, support for the singer hasn’t been as immediate and unquestioning as many expected.

Thus far, Taylor’s best friend, Abigail Anderson, has come to her defense (and received death threats in response), but the rest of her chick clique has been noticeably silent on the matter.

Those who have spoken out, like Selena Gomez, have come down on the side that both parties should grow up and move along to focusing on more important matters.

Not exactly what Taylor wants to hear from her loyal foot soldiers when she’s in the midst of the most potentially damaging PR crisis of her career.

So what gives?

Why are the same young women who have flanked Supreme Leader Swift at red carpet events and Fourth of July parties so reluctant to show their support in her full-blown war with the Kardashians?

Well, for starters, rumors of Taylor’s “squad problems” have been circulating for months.

The B- and C-list celebs who make up Taylor’s circle of friends have reportedly tired of Queen Tay’s “diva antics,” so it should come as no surprise that they’re not willing to risk their necks by involving themselves in her latest squabble.

And by “risk their necks,” of course, we mean “get themselves blacklisted from all the cool parties.”

Yes, unlike Swift’s past feuds, this one could carry serious social consequences for those who publicly align themselves with Team Taylor.

It’s hard to think of a celeb who’s more popular worldwide than Katy Perry, but the original Swift rival isn’t a giant on the Hollywood scene like Kim and her sisters.

And like so many things in showbiz, the “winner” of this feud may ultimately be decided by who carries more clout.

Sure, it’s cool being all over Taylor’s Instagram page – but not nearly as cool as being on the list the next Kanye hosts a surprise concert for 200 people.

Milo Yiannopoulos BANNED From Twitter Amidst Leslie Jones Attacks

Last week, the widely anticipated and surprisingly controversial all-female Ghostbusters reboot opened to mostly positive reviews and mediocre box office.

But it wasn’t the quality or popularity of the film that drew the most attention on social media in the days following its release.

Sadly, the bulk of the attention on Twitter went to the appalling attacks against Leslie Jones, a beloved SNL castmember and one of the four wildly talented leads of the film.

One of Jones’ more outspoken critics was “alt-conservative” Breitbart News columnist Milo Yiannopoulos, who has now been banned from the popular micro-blogging site after Jones reported some of his more offensive tweets.

“People should be able to express diverse opinions and beliefs on Twitter,” a company spokesperson said in a statement provided to BuzzFeed News.

“But no one deserves to be subjected to targeted abuse online, and our rules prohibit inciting or engaging in the targeted abuse or harassment of others.”

The move has sparked an intense debate online with many – even some who disagree with Yiannopoulos – expressing their belief that the ban constitutes a troubling imposition on the popular web personality’s freedom of speech.

While the right to tweet is obviously not protected by the Constitution, for web professionals, access to the major social media sites has become necessary to the point that a suspended account is on par with having one’s phone service taken away.

That’s not to say Twitter, Facebook and Instagram shouldn’t exercise their right to remove users due to the nature of the content that they post, but in the interest of maintaining an open dialogue and avoiding an online nanny state, users should be suspended only in cases of bigoted hate speech or persistent harassment.

Whether Yiannopoulis’ tweets fall under either category is a matter that the online community cannot seem to agree on.

“This is the beginning of the end for Twitter,” Yiannopoulos said in a statement about his suspension. “Some people are going to find this perfectly acceptable.”

“Anyone who believes in free speech or is a conservative certainly will not.”

The hashtag #FreeMilo began trending shortly after news of Yiannopoulos’ suspension went public.

Disney Gator Attack: Victim"s Family Decides NOT to Sue!

Last month, a 2-year-old boy named Lane Graves was killed by an alligator while staying at a Disney World resort with his family.

As the details of the tragedy emerged, it began to look as though the park was at fault for failure to post signs warning guests that gators and other dangerous wildlife may be present in the shallow waters surrounding the resort.

The case seemed to have the makings of a lawsuit that would not only result in a massive judgment for the Graves family, but also send a message about the importance of proper safety measures to theme parks around the country.

Shockingly, however, TMZ is now reporting that the Graves family has decided not to sue the Disney corporation.

According to the site, Matt and Melissa Graves issued a statement moments ago in which they shared a personal message about their worsening grief, but also revealed that they will not be seeking damages from Disney.

In the statement, the Graves stated that they’re struggling to “comprehend why this happened” and feel that “the pain gets worse” with each passing day.

However, they say that they see nothing to be gained by enduring a lengthy legal process.

In lieu of a lawsuit, the Graves announced that they will found the Lane Thomas Foundation in order to “keep his spirit alive.”

The family didn’t go into specifics regarding the purpose of the foundation.

They also didn’t reveal how it would be funded, but it’s widely assumed that Disney will be footing the bill.

The Graves family has spoken out about the tragedy in the past, and while their anger and grief is clear, they never explicitly blamed Disney.

Perhaps they believe that the death of their son was simply a senseless tragedy and they prefer any action taken in his name to be entirely positive.

Our thoughts go out to the Graves during this difficult time.
