As previously reported and detailed, Selena Gomez made a grand return to the spotlight on Sunday night.
The singer won the American Music Award for Favorite Female Artist (Pop/ Rock) and proceeded to give the most heartfelt acceptance speech of the evening in front of millions watching at home.
This event marked Selena’s first public appearance in several weeks, ever since she (allegedly) went to rehab as part of an emotional breakdown late in the summer.
Having stayed off social media and not put on any performances since that time, Gomez used the American Music Awards as a platform for brutal, raw honesty.
“I think it’s safe to say that most of you know a lot of my life, whether I like it or not,” Gomez said on stage, continuing as follows:
“I had to stop, ’cause I had everything and I was absolutely broken inside. I kept it all together enough to where I would never let you down, but I kept it too much together to where I let myself down.”
Barely able to hold her emotions in check, Gomez concluded:
“I don’t want to see your bodies on Instagram. I want to see what’s in here [holds chest]…
“I’m not trying to get validation nor do I need it anymore… If you are broken, you do not have to stay broken.”

Not long after the American Music Awards concluded, Gomez was the subject of praise and admiration on social media.
Many stars who were at the ceremony and many who were not all turned to Twitter and/or Instagram to show their support for the artist.
Moreover, a witness tells E! News that Niall Horan approached Selena while he was heading back to his seat from backstage; gave her a bit hug and said:
“You did so good!”
Ariana Grande felt the same way, as she stopped by Gomez’s front row seat to share a few words and blow a kiss to her fellow pop star.
Then there was Lady Gaga.
Insiders say that she was crying during Gomez’s acceptance speech.
She also shared the following backstage photo on Instagram and wrote as a caption to it:
“So dope I got to hang with with the biggest rockstar of the night. (Ya,know besides Sting and Green Day). The girl with the biggest prize of all a BIG Heart that she shares with the world.”
Taylor Swift shared a video to her Instagram story of herself screaming with pride at her television.
Martha Hunt posted her own thoughts on Twitter, writing: “@selenagomez just gave an incredibly moving speech”
Fifth Harmony‘s Camila Cabello gushed abut the “Same Old Love” singer, putting a video of the acceptance speech on Twitter and writing: “I love you.”
As for Olympic Gold medalist Aly Raisman?
She shared a snippet of the singer’s speech in a Twitter video, writing:
“Amazing!!! @selenagomez looking so effortlessly beautiful. Love the message. Congrats, well deserved.”
Toward the end of August, Gomez took a career break to focus on her emotional health.
There was chatter at the time about drinking and drug use, but nothing was ever confirmed.
There was also some evidence that Gomez was suffering over the state of her relationship, or lackthereof, with Justin Bieber.
Multiple sources confirmed around this time that the star sought professional treatment to get back into a positive standing.
