If you watch Vanderpump Rules online, then you know that this season has been a difficult one for Scheana Marie Shay.
In addition to the ongoing drama surrounding her divorce from Mike Shay, Scheana has once again found herself on the bottom rung of the social ladder.
The politics of the SUR girl (and former SUR girl) chick clique are complex, and alliances are constantly shifting, bridges are frequently burned, only to be easily mended at a later date.
When she started out on the show, Scheana was the odd woman out, regarded distrustfully due to her affair Eddie Cibrian, who was married to Brandi Glanville at the time.
(Scheana says she had no idea he was married, and it’s not really her job to make sure a married man doesn’t cheat on his wife, anyway.)
Despite their initial misgivings, the group eventually accepted Scheana, who in turn invited her friend Ariana into the fold.
These days, Ariana is a cast regular, but she and Scheana are on the outs, due to Ariana’s friendship with Lala, who’s been (justifiably) shunned by the rest of the group.
Scheana, meanwhile, appears to be getting the mean girl treatment from the rest of the cast again, primarily because she committed the unforgivable sins of not being rude enough to Lala, and drinking from a straw on vacation.
Like we said, messy, complex stuff, and it’s made for some compelling TV thus far this season.
Over the weekend, Scheana opened up about her place in the ever-changing social strata of the show:
“No one admits this other than me, but I think we all are very competitive with each other,” Scheana said during her appearance on The Tomorrow Show on Saturday.
“We aren’t always genuinely happy for each other when someone else gets an opportunity. So I think that’s something subconsciously, too, that makes us fight.”
That dynamic is obvious to most viewers, but it’s rare to hear any of the ladies admit that their circle of friends is more than a little dysfunctional.
Though to be fair, just last week, Stassi Schroeder opened up about her feelings toward Lala and the the “mean girl” criticism she’s faced all season, so maybe the ladies of Vanderpump made new year’s resolutions to be more forthcoming,
As for her divorce, Scheana had this to say in a recent interview with the Daily Dish:
“You’ll see a lot of this play out on the show, so I don’t want to give too much away. Shay and I did split amicably. We put out a joint statement.
“It just wasn’t working anymore on either end. We just decided instead of going for a legal separation or trying to continue therapy, we both agreed it wasn’t right.
“And, you know, hopefully one day we can be friends. You never know what the future holds. But it just was a situation that needed to end before the holidays, before the new year.”
Credit to Scheana for refusing to stoop to the level of Nicole Arbour, the Internet “comedian” and friend of Mike Shay’s who’s been calling Scheana out and claiming that she’s solely responsible for the divorce.
Don’t feed the trolls, kids. They’ll follow you home.
