Earlier this week, David Eason was fired from Teen Mom 2.
And there was much rejoicing throughout the land.
As you’ve surely heard by now, David was let go from the show after going on a truly insane Twitter rant for most of Monday.
He’d been tweeting about guns for several days before that, after he and Jenelle got a whole bunch of backlash for sharing that photo of her posing with a gun just hours after the Florida shooting.
If that wasn’t bad enough (it was), he decided to throw some good old-fashioned homophobia into the mix, telling someone who disagreed with his pro-gun stance to “go tell the homo and transgender parents to start teaching their kids better morals.”
“Oh I forgot,” he added, “that’s supposed to be normal.”
David also tweeted that he’s teach his children “not to associate” with gay and transgender people because “if you lay down with dogs you get up with fleas.”
He referred to people in the LGBT community as “abominations,” and when others began to disagree with him, he called them “bitches” or told them to “eat a bag of dicks.”
It was bad. It was very, very bad.
Jenelle never responded directly to his tweets, but she did like a few of them, which wasn’t a good look.
That night, they both deleted their accounts.
So all that went down on Monday, and by Tuesday night, MTV had made the decision to fire David.
“David Eason’s personal comments do not reflect the views of MTV,” the network explained in a statement.
“With six weeks left of production on Teen Mom 2, effective immediately, we are ending our relationship with him.”
On one hand, it wasn’t a surprise at all that they made the move to fire him — you simply can’t get away with spouting off those garbage views anymore.
And besides, other cast members were reportedly threatening to boycott if he didn’t see any consequences for his actions.
But on the other hand, it’s actually pretty shocking that David was fired, because where do they even go from here?
How are they going to film Jenelle without filming David, as codependent as they are? Are they going to blur him out? Force her to be able to function on her own long enough to get footage?
Or are they just going to fire her too?
As hard as it may be to believe, that last option is actually possible.
According to a report from The Ashley’s Reality Roundup, two major sponsors have pulled their ads that air during Teen Mom 2.
The first, Nutro Company, stated that they “value the opinions of our consumers and take their concerns very seriously,” and that “our advertisements will no longer air during Teen Mom 2.”
The second, Cesar Cuisine, tweeted to its followers yesterday that “You ill be happy to know we have been in contact with our rep and will no longer be airing any commercials during Teen Mom programming. Thanks!”
It’s pretty interesting, because this is what happened with 19 Kids and Counting after everyone found out that Josh Duggar had molested five kids.
A decision wasn’t made immediately on the fate of the show, but once the advertisers started pulling out, TLC made their decision quick.
It’s a little different here, of course, because instead of Teen Mom 2 being a show about one family, it’s about five different families, so it seems unlikely that they’d cancel the entire show.
Also, these decisions were made after MTV already fired David, so what else can they do?
Fire Jenelle.
The Ashley claims that MTV executives have been in meetings, trying to figure out “Jenelle’s future on the show,” and honestly, right now, it doesn’t look that bright.
We imagine that the only reason a decision hasn’t been made yet is because Jenelle does pull in so many viewers, and without her, the show will be without its very hottest mess.
Would Chelsea, Leah, Kailyn, and Briana be enough to keep people watching? For a lot of viewers, they wouldn’t.
At this point, only one thing is for certain: Jenelle has got to be feeling pretty aggravated right now, dude.
