Megyn Kelly Walks Back Idiotic Defense of Blackface

Megyn Kelly would like a mulligan.

On Tuesday morning, the former Fox News host reminded NBC viewers where she used to work by sitting around with a few panelists and making a passionate defense for…

… the use of blackface on Halloween?

Yes.

According to our records, this really was the random and racist hill on which Kelly decided to die for some reason.

During the controversial segment on Tuesday, Kelly said it was perfectly alright when she was growing up for white people to dress up as black characters on October 31, speaking out against the Politically Correct Police these days who frown on such a thing.

She used a really specific example to drive home her point, too.

Back in April, an episode of The Real Housewives of New York featured cast member Luann de Lesseps going out for Halloween as Diana Ross.

She received backlash for the outfit and then she apologized.

Simple and understandable enough, right?

Not to Megyn Kelly!

“But what is racist?” Kelly asked, digging herself a deep grave by expounding as follows:

“Because you do get in trouble if you are a white person who puts on blackface on Halloween, or a black person who puts on whiteface for Halloween.

“Back when I was a kid that was OK, as long as you were dressing up as, like, a character.”

We’re pretty sure that last sentence is demonstrably false; there just wasn’t social media back in the day over which folks could voice their concerns about these types of costumes.

After earning immediate flak from basically everyone with a pulse, Kelly issued an apology on Tuesday evening.

Written as an internal note, a copy of which was provided by a spokesperson for NBC via Twitter, Kelly said the following:

One of the wonderful things about my job is that I get the chance to express and hear a lot of opinions.

Today is one of those days where listening carefully to other points of view, including from friends and colleagues, is leading me to rethink my own views.

Continued Kelly:

When we had the roundtable discussion earlier today about the controversy of making your face look like a different race as part of a Halloween costume, I suggested that this seemed okay if done as part of this holiday where people have the chance to make themselves look like others.

The iconic Diana Ross came up as an example.

To me, I thought, why would it be controversial for someone dressing up as Diana Ross to make herself look like this amazing woman as a way of honoring and respecting her?

I realize now that such behavior is indeed wrong, and I am sorry. The history of blackface in our culture is abhorrent; the wounds too deep.

Yes, exactly.

Kelly prides herself as a journalist and yet somehow didn’t realize previously that blackface — which was used in the late 19th century and early 20th century by white theater performers to mock and stereotype African-Americans – has an offensive history?!?

Come on, Megs.

As Melania Trump might say, try to be be better, okay?

Try not to make it so clear that you want back on Fox News and are happy to show executives there while you still belong.

Go ahead and search social media for the best responses to this scandal, but we’ll go with Top Chef Padma Lakshmi and her Tweet.

This is what she wrote:

“I cannot believe the ignorance on this in 2018. You are on national television.

“You have a responsibility to educate yourself on social issues @megynkelly. This is so damaging.”

Once aganin: Yes, exactly.

Dr. Drew: Criticized For Idiotic Jenelle Evans Comments

As usual, there was drama aplenty at the taping of the annual Teen Mom 2 reunion show last month.

And predictably, much of the turbulence centered around the Carolina Hurricane herself, Jenelle Evans.

But remarkably, it’s Jenelle that viewers are most pissed at after watching the special, but rather the reunion’s milquetoast host, Dr. Drew Pinksy.

Now, Drew is no stranger to saying dumb things on television.

At this point in his career, idiocy is pretty much his calling card.

But the good doctor’s latest slip-up is interesting in that it’s both boneheaded and imminenlty understandable.

Allow us to explain:

While speaking with Jenelle’s long-suffering mother, Barbara Evans,

Predictably, the fan reaction on social media was not favorable:

“Dr. Drew is so bogus it’s sickening,” one viewer tweeted. “You don’t refer to abuse & controlling behavior as a good way to contain a woman. You’re supposed to be a professional. Act like one.”

“Dr. Drew saying she needs someone ‘to contain her’ is just twisted. She’s not a zoo animal,” commented another.

“Is ‘Dr’ Drew seriously implying that Barb is the bad guy here?? And David is only trying to protect and *contain*Jenelle???” asked a third.

Now, that was undeniably a poor choice of words on Pinksy’s part, and he should be chastised for saying what he said.

But for context, let’s review Jenelle’s behavior during the taping:

Things got off to a rocky start when the Evans-Easons went hard at the pre-party, and the night came to a premature end due to David Eason drunkenly stabbing baloons in the lobby.

During the taping itself, Jenelle caused a brawl backstage when she attacked the girlfriend of her ex, Nathan Griffith.

Evans was not arrested for the assault, but if she had been, it would’ve brought her one step closer to the 20-mugshot mark, a milestone that usually eludes even the most self-destructive celebrities.

So yeah, Jenelle could probably use some sort of stabilizing influence in her life.

But it doesn’t need to be a domineering man, and it’s certainly not David Eason, who only appears to be exacerbating the situation.

So Dr. Drew just added his name to the list of dumbass dudes attempting to “fix” Jenelle and only making the situation worse.

These days, it’s a mighty long list.

Watch Teen Mom 2 online to relive Jenelle’s wildly tumultuous past.

Idiotic Pro-Gun Tweet Produces Epic Series of Perfect Replies

Over the past several weeks, Great Britain has been rocked by a series of horrible terrorist attacks.

Most notably, at least within celebrity gossip circles, was the suicide bomber who killed 22 people at an Ariana Grande concert last month.

In response, conservative commentator Jack Posobiec thinks he has the answer: make sure everyone is armed!

After all, he actually reasoned on Twitter, NASCAR fans bring weapons to races and there"s never been a terrorist attack at a NASCAR race.

Makes perfect sense, right?

Forget the fact that not "all" NASCAR fans are armed, as Posobiec claims… along with the point that Jihadists who commit these atrocities nearly all plan on dying for their cause, so we somehow doubt a bunch of guns will serve as a deterrent.

Let"s focus instead, Twitter has responded, on Posobiec"s own argument.

Okay, no terrorist attacks have taken place at a NASCAR race and we should "draw conclusions" from that, he says.

Hmmm… what other events have never felt the wrath of terrorism and what conclusions ought we to draw from them?

1. Lots of Guns = No Terrorism!

Lots of guns equals no terrorism

D’uh, right? What possible hole could one find in this argument? Let’s see…

2. Just Send Harry Styles Everywhere!

Just send harry styles everywhere

His good looks would automatically distract all would-be bombers, making them forget all about their plans.

3. DMX to the Rescue

Dmx to the rescue

Clone him and his fans and we’re all good.

4. Wait a Minute, DMX

Wait a minute dmx

We take it back. Maybe penguins are the answer!

5. Wait, So We All Need to Do This?

Wait so we all need to do this

Anyting for the country, we guess.

6. People Hate Pushing Their Own Doors Open

People hate pushing their own doors open

That’s really what this all comes down to.
