The Voice Recap: Who"s Got the Blind Audition Magic?

The Voice Season 12 returned Monday night on NBC, with coaches Gwen, Blake, Alicia and Adam fighting again to build up the best teams.

Who’s got the edge so far, and who’s struggling out of the gate?

We saw Gwen go too far, in the opinion of some viewers, last week in implicitly pitching herself and Blake Shelton as a package deal.

Would week two of the Blind Auditions (following last week’s back to back to BACK three-night premiere event) offer more of the same?

Let’s run down who made it through to the battle rounds…

Micah Tryba

24-year-old Micah went with “I’m Every Woman” by Whitney Houston. It was not up there as one of the best, but some of the judges made it clear that there was a coaching opportunity with her.

After some crazy comments from Blake, Micah chose to join his team.

Troy Ramey

Troy turned in a real show-stopping performance of “Wild World” by Cat Stevens. It was so good that all the coaches wanted him in their teams.

The coaches were full of praise and wanted to help Troy evolve into something more. Gwen continued to be persistent, and it worked in her favor. Troy chose to join her.

Jack Cassidy

Jack was revealed to be related to Shirley Jones, David Cassidy, and Shaun Cassidy. This ultimately meant he had a solid voice with his rendition of “One of Us” by Joan Osborne.

Alicia was adamant she wanted this singer in her team, and it made sense. Her high notes and soul music would do wonders for his voice.

Kawan DeBose

Kawan DeBose went with “Let’s Get It On” by Marvin Gaye. Adam knew this was an opportunity to take him to the end of the competition, but the other judges did not want to give up, either. Kawan chose Team Adam.

“Because I’ve rocked with this dude since Songs About Jane and because you have one of my favorite keyboard players in your band, P.J. Morgan, I pick Adam.”

At least he did his homework.

Gaby Borromeo

Abby had an interesting story. She ditched her music career to become a waitress after being close to signing a record deal in New York.

Seven years later, she decided to take another stab at a music career. Singing “Happy” by Leona Lewis was tough, but she proved she had the vocal chops a good bit into the song.

Adam opted to tell her that he could help her work on her flaws if she gave him a chance. She chose his team. Is Adam on a role?

Missy Robertson

Missy Robertson went with “Scars to Your Beautiful” by Alessia Cara. It was amazing. She sounded like a seasoned performer that\s been in the game a long time.

Blake tried to pull her over to his team, but she knew she could flourish with some guidance from Alicia.

Aaliyah Rose

Aaliyah went with “Rise Up” by Andra Day. She managed to hit all of the notes flawlessly and let the coaches know she had been noticed by Meghan Trainor for her singing.

Gwen pointed out that she could tell nerves were an issue for the young girl, but they could work together to help her improve.

Josh West

Josh West got all of the judges to turn with his rendition of “Ordinary World” by Duran Duran. Hearing that Josh was also a songwriter was good.

You could tell he knew what it took to make it in the industry. Adam made the best play for the young singer, and he eked out a victory.

Who would have guessed that Adam would finally have some new blood in his team?

Not us.

What did you think of the episode?

Drew Barrymore on Adam Sandler: We Looked Like the Worst Blind Date!

Yesterday, we reported that Drew Barrymore and Will Kopelman are heading for divorce. As Drew deals with some potentially difficult times ahead of her, she has one person in her life she is grateful for: Adam Sandler.

Barrymore and Sandler have starred in three hit films together, branding themselves as one of Hollywood’s most beloved onscreen couples.

Barrymore opened up about her friendship and working relationship with Sandler.

The 40-year-old actress said that developing fan’s affection for Barrymore-Sandler collaborations was her plan all along.

“[I thought] I want to be a modern weird Hepburn, Tracey old Hollywood couple,” she told Howard Stern, retelling her intentions of when she decided to work with Sandler.

During the interview, she admitted that she met Sandler during a low point in her career.  Barrymore explained that she called Sandler and asked if they could meet.

She was hoping she would be able to convince him to star in a film with her.

However, things didn’t go quite as planned.  Barrymore said that when she walked into the meeting, she quickly realized it would take some serious persuasion to get him to commit to a film.

“We looked like the worst blind date you’ve ever seen,” she laughed. “I showed up with purple hair and a leopard coat and he was in his classic cargo pants.”

“As soon as I saw him I was like ‘Yeah you’re going to have to see past all this,’ ” she joked.

It took some convincing and persuasion. But Barrymore knew that if she spoke from the heart, she could win him over: “I said, I really believe that you and I could get together and do something meaningful.”

And it worked!  Shortly after they met, Sandler and Barrymore collaborated in The Wedding Singer in 1998 and 50 First Dates in 2004.  They reunited ten years later for the film Blended.

Barrymore credits Sandler for her success.  In fact, she dedicated a chapter of her book Wildflower to him.  The chapter is simply titled “Adam.”

“He was hot s— and he believed in me,” she stated. “It’s a little bit of a love letter to him because I have grown with this person.”

Stevie Wonder -- My Dead Attorney Screwed Me Because I"m Blind

Z STAFF

EXCLUSIVE

0917-stevie-wonder-tmz-01Stevie Wonder‘s dead attorney and right-hand man for decades duped him into signing a contract he never saw … a contract that makes the singer pay the lawyer’s family indefinitely and forever … so claims Stevie.

Stevie just filed legal docs, obtained by TMZ, in which he says his longtime lawyer, Johanan Vigoda, put a contract in front of Stevie’s face when he was 21 years old. The deal was, Stevie would pay Johanan 6% of all music royalties. But there’s a clause that says payments to the lawyer’s family go on “forever.”

Johanan died in 2011, but Stevie’s record company continued to pay Johanan’s widow. Stevie says he didn’t realize payments were being made for nearly 2 years, and when he caught wind, he ordered payments to be stopped. He claims he trusted Johanan and the lawyer never said the 6% would survive his death.

Stevie says in his docs he was betrayed by a man he trusted and wants a judge to declare he no longer has a duty to pay royalties, because the attorney took advantage of a blind man.

Johanan’s widow has filed her own lawsuit, demanding Stevie pay from the time he stopped and forever in the future. She wants $ 7 mil minimum.
