Ellen Pompeo Basically Tells Patrick Dempsey to Suck It
Ellen Pompeo is having a moment.
Ellen Pompeo has actually been having a whole bunch of moments over a whole bunch of years… and she’s here to remind you about them.
The veteran actress has given a very revealing interview to The Hollywood Reporter in which she delves into a number of issues, from sexism … to her future on Grey’s Anatomy… to her opinion of Patrick Dempsey.
And let’s just tease the final point with this:
Pompeo does not appear to think very highly of her former co-star.
For starters, Pompeo said Dempsey’s decision to leave the series in 2015 was a “defining” moment for her in terms of contract negotiations.
We’ll let her explain why:
“[ABC] could always use him as leverage against me – ‘We don’t need you; we have Patrick’ – which they did for years,” she explains, holding nothing back and adding:
“I don’t know if they also did that to him, because he and I never discussed our deals. There were many times where I reached out about joining together to negotiate, but he was never interested in that.
“At one point, I asked for $ 5,000 more than him just on principle, because the show is Grey’s Anatomy and I’m Meredith Grey.
“They wouldn’t give it to me. And I could have walked away, so why didn’t I? It’s my show; I’m the number one. I’m sure I felt what a lot of these other actresses feel:
“Why should I walk away from a great part because of a guy? You feel conflicted but then you figure, “I’m not going to let a guy drive me out of my own house."”
Pretty interesting, huh?
It doesn’t sound like Dempsey was interesting in joining forces with his long-time colleague.
This is in opposition, let’s say, to back in the day when the entire cast of Friends refused to film unless they also received the same pay raise.
Dempsey’s Derek Shepherd was eventually written off the show… but it wasn’t long until Martin Henderson was added to the cast as a new love interest.
“So, what does it look like when he leaves the show?” Pompeo asks, elaborating as follows:
“First, it looks like a ratings spike, and I had a nice chuckle about that. But the truth is, the ink wasn’t even dry on his exit papers before they rushed in a new guy.
“I was on vacation in Sicily, decompressing – it was a long working relationship and it was a tumultuous end and I needed a moment to just chill with some rosé – and they’re calling me, going, “What do you think of this guy?” “What do you think of this guy?”
“And they’re sending pictures.
“I was like, “Are you people f-cking nuts? Why do you feel that you have to replace this person?”
“I couldn’t believe how fast the studio and the network felt like they had to get a penis in there. We brought in Martin Henderson, but they didn’t love the storyline, so that ended.”
Again: interesting stuff, huh?
Through all of the many cast changes on Grey’s Anatomy, Pomeo remains.
And she isn’t going anywhere any time soon:
The star just signed a new, two-year deal that will pay her approximately $ 20 million per year.
This pretty much guarantees Grey’s Anatomy will stay on the air at least through Season 16.
To conclude her cover story with The Hollywood Reporter, Pompeo turned her attention to the #MeToo movement and the ongoing shift in Hollywood.
She’s proud of everything going on at the moment and she hopes she can play a role in it.
“I don’t believe the only solution is more women in power, because power corrupts,” says Pompeo.
“It’s not necessarily a man or a woman thing. But there should be more of us women in power, and not just on Shonda Rhimes’ sets.
“Look, I only have a 12th-grade education and I wasn’t a great student, but I’ve gotten an education here at Shondaland.
“And now my 8-year-old daughter gets to come here and see fierce females in charge. She loves to sit in the director’s chair with the headphones on yelling “Action” and “Cut.”
“She’s growing up in an environment where she’s completely comfortable with power.
“I don’t know any other environment in Hollywood where I could provide that for her. Now I hope that changes … and soon.”

Jillian Dempsey Gushes Over McDreamy McMarriage
To some couples, an 18th wedding anniversary may not be cause for celebration.
It’s not a round number or anything.
But Jillian Dempsey and Patrick Dempsey have a reason to celebrate any and all marital milestones these days…
… because they came very close to NOT being married at all in the semi-recent past.
In early 2015, the former Grey’s Anatomy star and his wife announced they were filing for divorce.
Wrote the parents of three kids in a joint statement at the time:
“It is with careful consideration and mutual respect that we have decided to end our marriage.
“Our primary concern remains the wellbeing of our children, and we ask with profound gratitude that you respect our family’s privacy at this very sensitive time.”
One year later, however, the split was called off and the twosome decided to give their relationship another shot.
What changed in that time? Mostly just Dempsey’s attitude.
“Our marriage was not something I was prepared to let go of,” the actor told ES Magazine awhile back, adding:
“I didn’t feel like we had done all the work. And we both wanted to do that work. That’s where it started.”
The pair also attended counseling sessions… and made a lot of love!
“You’ve got to communicate, and stay open and not get lazy. And not give up. And lots of sex!” Dempsey said last year.
Fast forward to this week and things are still going strong between Jillian and Patrick.
Stronger than ever, it seems.
“Happy 18th anniversary @patrickdempsey!” Jillian wrote as a caption to the first photo in this article, which features Patrick kissing her on the cheek as they relaxed on the beach in swimsuits.
“Through thick and thin….I love you,” she added, signing the loving message “wifey.”
Jillian and Patrick share three kids together: daughter Tallula, 15; and twins Sullivan and Darby, 10.
Jillian met the Sweet Home Alabama hunk when she gave him a haircut at an upscale Los Angeles salon in 1994; she filed to have her divorce filing dismissed in November 2016.
Back during the worst of it for the couple, a source told Us Weekly that Patrick took responsibility for the temporary break-up because he “was going through a bit of a midlife crisis. But he’s snapping out of it.”
We’re so glad to hear it!
We wish the best of luck to this cute couple!

Patrick Dempsey: Lots Of Sex Saved My Marriage!
Patrick Dempsey’s life is kind of great right now.
Not only does he star in the highly-anticipated Bridget Jones’s Baby (out September 16th), but Dempsey has also saved his 15-year marriage to wife Jillian.
In January 2015, Jillian filed for divorce from the Grey’s Anatomy alum, citing irreconcilable differences as the reason.
A year later, the two decided to give their marriage another try.
Dempsey told People Magazine that he was willing to do whatever it took to win Jillian back.
“Our marriage was not something I was prepared to let go of,” he said.
“I didn’t feel like we had done all the work. And we both wanted to do that work. That’s where it started.”
Jillian’s filing was “scary,” Dempsey recalled.
“It’s always destabilizing when you’re potentially breaking up a family or you have a big section of your life that’s ending.”
Dempsey credits couples counseling, which he deemed “very important,” for making their union stronger, but it’s what happens outside of the therapist’s room that matters just as much.
“You’ve got to keep at it,” Dempsey, who has three children with his wife – Talula, 16, and twins Darby and Sullivan, 8, said.
“You’ve got to communicate, and stay open and not get lazy. And not give up. And lots of sex!”
Dempsey admitted to ES Magazine that his intense love affair with car racing took its toll on the marriage, but he’s not one to admit failure when it comes to his family.
“Everybody has their own path,” Dempsey explained.
“Jill and I decided it was time to work on our issues and improve. We wanted to be role models for our kids like, okay, if you have differences, you can work them out.”
The Dempseys were spotted in Europe together last year while Jillian served as Jennifer Lawrence’s makeup artist on The Hunger Games: Jay Part 2 European premieres., a clear sign that they were working on getting back together.
“You can only do one thing at a time and do it well,” he says.
“I [learned] to prioritize. Our union has to be the priority. I wasn’t prepared to give up on her and she wasn’t either. We both wanted to fight for it.”

Patrick Dempsey: Was He Caught Flighting With Sophie Monk?!
Last month, Australia actress Sophie Monk hosted a Q&A session with Bridget Jones’s Baby stars Renee Zellweger and Patrick Dempsey.
Monk posed for a photo with the stars and posted it to her Instagram, but one tabloid was more interested in seeing if they could stir up a little trouble.
According to the National Enquirer, Dempsey’s wife, Jillian was furious that the former Grey’s Anatomy star was “all over” Monk and “very touchy-feely” with her at the event.
The Delux beauty co-creator is, according to the source, “ready to ditch him and walk away with half of his $ 40 million fortune.”
Gossip Cop debunked the rumor, citing the Dempseys’ appearance with their children at the world premiere in London on September 5th.
In January 2015, Fink filed for divorce from Dempsey after 15 years of marriage.
“It is with careful consideration and mutual respect that we have decided to end our marriage,” a statement sent by the couple to Us Weekly read.
“Our primary concern remains the wellbeing of our children, and we ask with profound gratitude that you respect our family’s privacy at this very sensitive time.”
The couple did not have a prenup when they first got married, and Dempsey’s net worth is estimated to be $ 40 million.
Reports suggest that Dempsey’s obsession with race-car driving is what put serious strain on their marriage, ultimately forcing her to file.
The proceedings, however, were dropped, after the Dempseys were spotted holding hands in Europe last year.
“For the past year, Patrick and Jillian have been working on getting to where they are right now. They are not dating anyone else, and only each other,” a source told People this past January.
“They seem very happy and are spending a lot of time together. They go on dates and are also involved with the kids together.”
When a journalist with ES Magazine asked if they were back together in May, Dempsey had an odd, if not cheeky answer.
“Yeah, I think so,” he said.
“You have to work at everything. And you cannot do everything. Something has to be sacrificed.”
Dempsey’s focus is more on his three children than on racing these days.
“I’ve sort of stepped back – I’m the team owner, but time goes by so quickly with my kids that I don’t want to miss that,” Dempsey said.
“Last year we had a good team, and a good car, it was the right moment … where I could focus 100 percent on doing a full season.
“Now it’s time to put that personal philosophy into my kids, allowing them to find their goals, their passions.”
A source told People that the divorce “made Patrick miserable. It was definitely a wakeup call.”

Patrick Dempsey and Jillian Fink: Expecting Fourth Child?!
Patrick Dempsey and once estranged wife Jillian Fink are not only reconciling, but planning a fourth child together, a new report claims!
Insiders say the former Grey’s Anatomy star and his stylist wife are “100 percent back together” and ready to solidify their shaky marriage.
With a baby!
“It’s so wonderful to see them this happy after a terrible year,” a longtime friend of the couple told Radar, which broke the story earlier.
“They’re very excited about the possibility of baby number four and have agreed to start trying for another child before summer arrives.”
So they’re just planning to conceive at this moment. No actual pregnancy for Jillian yet … but sounds like it could be a matter of time.
Jillian Fink filed for divorce from Dempsey at the beginning of last year after 15 years of marriage and three children together.
However, sources close to the couple say they went through “intense” therapy and that she and Patrick called off the divorce.
He promised to do whatever it takes to make their relationship work, and has made good on it too, scaling back his daredevil hobbies:
“They’ve been working so hard on the marriage. He’s even cut back on his car racing … something that was a huge problem for her.”
Good for them!!

Patrick Dempsey and Jillian Fink: The Divorce is Off!
Patrick Dempsey may have been killed off Grey’s Anatomy last year, but the actor’s marriage remains very much alive.
One year after Dempsey and Jillian Fink released a statement that confirmed they were filing for divorce, the couple has had a literal change of heart.
They are going to give their marriage another shot.
On January 23, 2015, Fink cited “irreconcilable differences” in her official divorce documents and starting the process in which she sought child and spousal support from the handsome actor.
There had even been talk that Dempsey cheated on Fink and that this act of betrayal contributed to his firing from Grey’s Anatomy.
But Dempsey and Fink were spotted holding hands in Paris several weeks ago, prior to attending the Image Maker Awards in West Hollywood on January 12.
They even posed for a photo together at the event, sparking reconciliation rumors.
Just last week, Fink (a successful hair and makeup stylist) wished Dempsey a happy birthday on Instagram, writing to her not-so-estranged husband of over 16 years:
“Happy 5 ‘0’!!! @patrickdempsey xxx.”
Fink married Dempsey in July of 1999 and they have three kids together.
It’s unclear at the moment just what brought the couple back together, but you have seen Patrick Dempsey when you watch Grey’s Anatomy online or on television, right?
Case pretty much closed, we say. Just look at that hair!

Patrick Dempsey: Back Together With Estranged Wife, Jillian?
People are allowed to change their minds, but when it comes to divorce, it can get very confusing for everyone involved.
Especially when it comes to celebrity divorces.
In January 2015, Jillian Dempsey filed for divorce from Patrick, her husband of fifteen years and (at the time) star of Grey’s Anatomy. Since then, the estranged couple has been spotted together.
Most recently, Jillian posted a photo of herself with Patrick, wishing him a happy 50th birthday. They were both wearing hard hats with Deer Valley-area construction company Magleby, which led People to speculate that a real estate purchase in Utah maybe in the Dempsey’s future.
Back in November, Jillian and Patrick were seen walking hand-in-hand in Paris; he was filming Bridget Jones’s Baby, while Jillian was Jennifer Lawrence’s makeup artist for The Hunger Games: Mocking Jay Part 2 European premieres.
On January 12th, the couple attended the Image Maker Awards at Chateau Marmont in West Hollywood, and even posed for a photo together.
At the time of the filing, a source close to the Dempseys weren’t surprised that the couple called it quits.
“[The split] was a long time coming,” the source revealed.
“They were never going to make it work, but they tried.”
“They have had disagreements for a long time,” another source added.

Patrick Dempsey: Shonda Rimes Killed Me Off, But It"s Cool
It was a bold move, killing McDreamy off Grey’s Anatomy.
After 11 seasons, Derek Shepherd died in a car crash. It would have been your run-of-the-mill TV tragedy, had the show’s creator, Shonda Rhimes, not hinted that she sometimes kills off characters for persona reasons.
On November Rimes made headlines during an appearance The Nightly Show With Larry Whitmore.
“Have you ever killed off a character because you didn’t like the actor?” Whitmore asked.
“And extra bonus points, who was it? Don’t even think about lying.”
Rimes’ response: “Yes, and I’m not naming names.”
Dempsey gets it, though.
“I think she loves being provocative, and that’s fine for who she is,” Dempsey told Entertainment Weekly.
“That gets people talking about all the stuff that she’s doing. She’s an amazing woman who is incredibly productive. She’s promoting a book. She’s promoting three shows.
“And she’s emerging as the star of all of these things.”
Dempsey, who’s currently filming Bridget Jones’s Baby with Renee Zellweger and Colin Firth, says he’s “very happy to have moved on with a difference chapter” in his life.
“She’s very savvy,” he added. “I think she knows how to deal with the media and what she needs to say to get the response that she’s looking for.”
Do you think it was personal, killing off McDreamy?
