George H.W. Bush: Hospitalized 24 Hours After Wife"s Funeral
Just one day after laying his wife of 73 years to rest, George H.W. Bush is in intensive care.
A spokesman for the former President named Jim McGrath said in a statement that the 93-year, “was admitted to the Houston Methodist Hospital yesterday morning after contracting an infection that spread to his blood.”
Continues this update:
“He is responding to treatments and appears to be recovering. We will issue additional updated as events warrant.”
The troubling news of the 41st president’s hospitalization has been made public just two days after the funeral of Barbara Bush, an dvent that took place on April 21 and which was attended by members of the Bush family, Melania Trump, Barack and Michelle Obama.
President Donald Trump chose not to pay his respects in person.
The funeral took place on the grounds of the George H.W. Bush Presidential Library at Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas.
Mrs. Bush, one of the most respected First Ladies of her era, died last week at the age of 92 after being placed in hospice care.
Said her husband of over seven decades after his wife passed away:
“I always knew Barbara was the most beloved woman in the world, and in fact I used to tease her that I had a complex about that fact.
“But the truth is the outpouring of love and friendship being directed at The Enforcer is lifting us all up.
“We have faith she is in heaven, and we know life will go on – as she would have it. So cross the Bushes off your worry list.”
Barbara Bush also left behind her brother, Scott Pierce, 17 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Tweeted McGrath prior to the funeral on Saturday:
To honor his wife of 73 years and her commitment to family literacy, for which she raised over $ 110 million over the course of over 30 years, @GeorgeHWBush will be wearing a pair of socks festooned with books at today’s funeral service for former First Lady Barbara Bush.
The elder George Bush, meanwhile, is the oldest living former president.
He has battled a handful of health problems over recent years.
Bush was admitted to the hospital twice last year.
In January, he ended up in the ICU for an acute respiratory problem stemming from pneumonia.
Three months later, he was hospitalized “for observation due to a persistent cough that prevented him from getting proper rest.”
Elsewhere, the ex-president’s longtime chief of staff, Jean Becker, said Bush is “broken-hearted” over the loss of his wife.
“So many of you are asking, ‘How is 41?’ He, of course, is broken-hearted to lose his beloved Barbara, his wife of 73 years,” Becker wrote in a statement on Tuesday night, adding:
“He held her hand all day today and was at her side when [she] left this good earth.
Obviously, this is a very challenging time. But it will not surprise all of you who know and love him, that he also is being stoic and strong, and is being lifted up by his large and supportive family.
“He is determined to be there for them as well. He appreciates all the well wishes and support.
Our thoughts go out to this family during this challenging time.

Heather Lind: Actress Accuses George H.W. Bush of Sexual Assault
In the wake of the Harvey Weinstein scandal involving accusations of sexual harassment, sexual assault, and a pervasive culture of silence, more and more women are stepping forward with stories that they’ve kept quiet for too long.
Because public images don’t always match the real person behind the scenes, sometimes these accusations can come as quite a shock.
Actress Heather Lind has come forward with her #MeToo story … and she’s accusing none other than former US President, George H.W. Bush.
41st President George H.W. Bush is mostly remembered for his one-term Presidency, for his Vice President’s spelling gaffe, and for his infamous “read my lips” line that, like so many political promises, was nothing but empty words.
Oh, and for fathering George W. Bush, who would go on to be a President so infamous that it took the election of an orange menace to overshadow the possibly irreparable harm that he did to the US and its global image.
These days, H.W. Bush is in a wheelchair, and time and contrast have softened his image considerably, so that even those who were once his fiercest political critics don’t have many issues with him anymore.
But actress Heather Lind, known for her portrayal of Anna Strong in the AMC series, Turn: Washington’s Spies, has come forward with an accusation, sharing her lengthy #MeToo story on Instagram.
And what she has to say is not political, but deeply personal.
Her lengthy post begins:
“I was disturbed today by a photo I saw of President Barack Obama shaking hands with George H. W. Bush in a gathering of ex-presidents organizing aid to states and territories damaged by recent hurricanes.”
That, in and of itself, is not disturbing. It’s a great cause, actually.
“I found it disturbing because I recognize the respect ex-presidents are given for having served. And I feel pride and reverence toward many of the men in the photo.”
That’s more than a lot could say. (Personally, I could say that about one of them without reservation)
“When I got the chance to meet George H. W. Bush four years ago to promote a historical television show I was working on, he sexually assaulted me while I was posing for a similar photo.”
Oh gosh. We can see why the photo hit home for her.
“He didn’t shake my hand. He touched me from behind from his wheelchair with his wife Barbara Bush by his side.”
She’s not clear about how he allegedly touched her, and … it really shouldn’t matter whether he grabbed her butt or did something more invasive.
Sexual assault is wrong.
“He told me a dirty joke. And then, all the while being photographed, touched me again.”
Awful. But politeness kept her from responding, it seems.
She wasn’t, she says, the only one who noticed.
“Barbara rolled her eyes as if to say ‘not again."”
Well, none of us can speak to what Barbara Bush was really thinking at the time. But if that really was her noticing and just feeling exhasperation instead of horror … that is alarming on a number of levels.
“His security guard told me I shouldn’t have stood next to him for the photo. We were instructed to call him Mr. President.”
One, that’s awful.
Two, that makes us wonder if George H.W. Bush is experiencing some form of dementia that is eroding his impulse-control.
Three, it would not be unheard of for wheelchair-bound old men to grope and harass pretty young women and get away with it just because they’re old and in wheelchairs. Especially when that man is powerful.
Heather Lind reflects upon that terrible experience.
“It seems to me a President’s power is in his or her capacity to enact positive change, actually help people, and serve as a symbol of our democracy.”
True. There’s so much more to being President than being Commander in Chief.
“He relinquished that power when he used it against me and, judging from the comments of those around him, countless other women before me. What comforts me is that I too can use my power, which isn’t so different from a President really.”
That’s one way of looking at it.
“I can enact positive change. I can actually help people. I can be a symbol of my democracy. I can refuse to call him President, and call out other abuses of power when I see them.”
Those are good things to do, right?
“I can vote for a President, in part, by the nature of his or her character, knowing that his or her political decisions must necessarily stem from that character.”
We can all do that.
“My fellow cast-mates and producers helped me that day and continue to support me.”
It’s good that she has a support network.
“I am grateful for the bravery of other women who have spoken up and written about their experiences.”
Remember, folks — strength in numbers. Just like Evan Rachel Wood says.
“And I thank President Barack Obama for the gesture of respect he made toward George H. W. Bush for the sake of our country, but I do not respect him. #metoo.”
To be clear, that second “him” means George H.W. Bush. Pronouns can be kind of vague.
That is heavy stuff.
While Heather Lind’s story evoked an outpouring of support, it seems that some people bristled over a former President being accused.
Because Heather Lind’s Instagram has been bombarded with hate.
So much so that Heather has deleted the original post. Unfortunately, even pictures of her holding her baby are getting the nastiest messages in the comments that you can imagine.
Sexual assault should not be a political issue, folks. There should not be two sides to this issue.
Have we learned nothing from the #MeToo movement?

George H.W. Bush Gets HUGE Ovation For Super Bowl Coin Toss
During his ill-fated run for the presidency, Jeb Bush referred to his father, former President George H.W. Bush, as the greatest man alive.
The 2016 election obviously didn"t turn out the way his family had hoped, but judging by the reaction his old man got at Super Bowl LI?
Jeb! hit the nail on the head with that statement.
George and former First Lady Barbara Bush received a massive ovation as they oversaw the coin toss at the big game Sunday night.
The former president, 92, wore a suit with no tie, while his wife of 71 years, 91, donned a blue blouse with a red scarf and beige slacks.
It marked the first public event since the couple – based in Houston, the host of the Super Bowl – was hospitalized within days of each other.
George went home from the hospital last week after being treated for pneumonia. He had been at Houston Methodist Hospital since January 15.
After experiencing shortness of breath, he was later admitted to the ICU to address an acute respiratory problem stemming from pneumonia.
Bush’s wife was admitted to the same hospital on January 18 as a “precaution." Her doctors later said she was suffering from bronchitis.
The hospitalizations forced the couple to miss President Donald Trump’s inauguration on January 20, though they wished him the best.
Last night, the entire nation saluted the best.
The 41st President of the U.S. was taken to the midfield for the coin toss on a wheelchair while his wife rode alongside him on a golf cart.
The Bushes were greeted with a well-deserved ovation so loud, the game"s referee struggled to be heard during the opening ceremony.
The winner of the coin toss? America. And The Falcons, who went on to lose a second coin toss, and the game in overtime, hours later.

George H.W. Bush Pens Apology Letter to Donald Trump: Read It Here!
George H.W. Bush does not owe anyone any kind of apology, that much is certain.
The former President of the United States was admitted to the intensive care unit at Houston Methodist Hospital this week to address “an acute respiratory problem stemming from pneumonia,” according to his spokesman, Jim McGrath.
He is currently in stable condition.
“Doctors performed a procedure to protect and clear his airway that required sedation,” McGrath added said in a statement on Wednesday, although Bush is now awake and alert.
The ex-Commander-in-Chief is so awake and alert, in fact, that he actually penned a note to Donald Trump from the hospital in order to explain his absence from tomorrow’s inauguration in Washington, D.C.
“Dear Donald, Barbara and I are so sorry we can’t be there for your Inauguration on January 20th,” the father of George W. Bush wrote, explaining:
“My doctor says if I sit outside in January, it likely will put me six feet under. Same for Barbara. So I guess we’re stuck in Texas.
“But we will be with you and the country in spirit. I want you to know that I wish you the very best as you begin this incredible journey of leading out great country. If I can ever be of help, please let me know.”
It’s true: Barbara Bush is also in the hospital.
She admitted on Wednesday morning as a precaution after “experiencing fatigue and coughing,” McGrath said yesterday.
The former First Lady has a case of bronchitis and is being treated with antibiotics.
George H.W. Bush is 92 years old and his wife is 91 years old.
Despite his self-proclaimed hatred of Twitter, Trump responded to Bush’s kind letter with a message on the social media service that reads:
“Looking forward to a speedy recovery for George and Barbara Bush, both hospitalized. Thank you for your wonderful letter!”
According to NPR, the 41st President – for understandable reasons, of course – will be the only living ex-POTUS who will miss the ceremony on January 20.
His son and former first lady Laura Bush; Bill Clinton and Hillary Clinton; and Jimmy Carter and former first lady Rosalynn Carter will all attend the inauguration.
The elder Bush served a single term as President from 1989 to 1993. He was defeated for a second term by Bill Clinton, with whom Bush has since developed a close relationship.
“They have not only dedicated their lives to this country, they have been a constant source of friendship and support and good counsel” over the years, Barack Obama said on Wednesday of the Bushes, adding:
“They are as fine a couple as we know.”
We join everyone else who has wished both George and Barbara Bush a full recovery from their respective ailments.
