Donald Trump Impeachment: Is It Already in the Works?

From the moment the Donald Trump was sworn in as 45th President of the United States, his opponents (read: the majority of Americans) began looking forward to the day when the Donald would be unceremoniously removed from office.

Even historically right-leaning pundits have confessed that they have a hard time imagining a scenario under which Trump will last a full term in the White House.

Vegas casinos have been offering Trump impeachment odds since before the inauguration – and these days the numbers send a clear message:

It seems almost inevitable that Congress will bring charges against Trump at some point in the next four years.

To be clear:

In order for you to cash in on an impeachment wager, Trump doesn’t actually have to be removed from office.

Two presidents have been impeached – Andrew Johnson in 1868 and Bill Clinton in 1998 – but both were acquitted by the Senate.

Richard Nixon resigned in 1974 before the House could vote on his impeachment.

Needless to say, impeachments (and even the threat of impeachment) are few and far between.

Bringing charges of misconduct against a sitting president is considered the ultimate in extreme measures, and it’s difficult for the opposing party to make a convincing case that the commander-in-chief is unfit to serve.

That said, the White House has never seen an occupant quite like President Trump before.

From allegations that Trump colluded with Russia to the many potential conflicts of interest presented by Trump’s business interests, the possibilities for misconduct charges are so plentiful that it seems the best the president can hope for is that his opponents will find it difficult to focus on just one.

Unfortunately for Team Trump, the developments of the past 24 hours seem to indicate that impeachment is all but a foregone conclusion, and it seems the

During last night’s DNC chair debates, Rep. Keith Ellison of Minnesota floated the idea that Democrats should pursue charges against Trump as soon as possible.

“Donald Trump has already done a number of things which legitimately raise the question of impeachment,” Ellison told the audience.

Within the same 24-hour period, Richmond, California became the first U.S. city to officially call for Trump’s impeachment following a vote by the city council.

In an official statement, Councilmember Jael Myrick stated that he hopes other cities will follow suit.

All of this comes on the heels of a scathing essay published by Time magazine, in which legal scholars James C. Nelson and John Bonifaz argue that there’s already sufficient cause to begin impeachment proceedings:

“Where Trump runs afoul of the foreign-emoluments clause is that, first and foremost, he is a businessman with significant financial interests and governmental entanglements all over the globe,” the pair wrote.

“Moreover, Trump’s business dealings are veiled in complicated corporate technicalities and lack transparency.”

Trump has often boasted that he’s one of the world’s foremost financial minds.

It seems now would be a good time to prove his prowess and foreknowledge by placing a bet against himself before his odds in Vegas get any worse.

Donald Trump Impeachment Odds: What Are the Chances of the President Getting Fired?

You’re fired.

It was Donald Trump’s catchphrase during his tenure as host of NBC’s The Apprentice and The Celebrity Apprentice.

It’s a phrase no one wants to hear, filled as it is with the dread of an irate authority figure and terminated employment and yet, it helped endear Trump to an American public that had all but forgotten about him

And now, millions are aching to repeat those words back the the 45th President of the United States.

From the time of his stunning election, there’s been talk of the possibility that Trump might not last a full term in office.

In the wake of news that his administration may have been colluding with Russia for much of the past year and the resignation of top national security adviser General Michael Flynn, it seems more likely than ever that Trump will face a full investigation sometime in the near future.

Bad news for America, but potentially good news for gamblers who are bored with playing the ponies and betting on point spreads.

As they do with pretty much everything else, from the length of the national anthem at the Super Bowl to the likelihood that Jennifer Lawrence will fall down at an awards show, oddsmakers are calculating the chances of a Trump impeachment.

And these days they’re liking the president’s chances of getting the boot.

The odds of a Trump impeachment in 2017 are currently sitting at 4/1.

If he makes it through his first year in the White House, however, it seems the likelihood that Trump will last a full four years will jump considerably.

The odds of a Trump’s impeachment in 2018 are currently at 9/1.

In 2019, they’re 16/1 in 2019 and they’re at a whopping 20/1 in the year 2020.

So if you have an inkling that Trump will get tossed three years from now, you may want to put some dollars down on it.

Not surprisingly, oddsmakers are deeming it less likely that the president will voluntarily step down.

The “no” prop bet on Trump resigning is currently at 4/11.

The “yes” is a 15/8.

Of course, anyone familiar with Trump’s ego knows that all the sh-t would have to hit all the fans simultaneously for Trump to admit defeat and surrender the White House.

But hey, these are exciting times in the worst possible way, and anything is possible!

So get your bets in now, before we’re all wagering in rubles!

Wish us luck, rest of the world!

Scandal Season 5 Episode 4 Recap: Fitz and the Giant Impeachment

We kicked off Scandal Season 5 Episode 4 behind bars, as Roward denied all culpability in the Louvre fire.

Were you buying his defense? Because Jake was not.

Unable to frighten Rowan with any threats (because he’s Rowan), Jake recruited Charlie to team up with him Paris in search of the individual who launched Lazarus One.

Enter Elise, a woman Charlie hooks Jake up with and who knows many things about stolen paintings.

Oh, did we mention that Elise used to serve as Jake’s wife undercover?!? He believed she was dead… and then she actually got shot after agreeing to help him here, prompting Jake to bring Elise back home.

In Gladiator World, Quinn tricked Marcus Walker into meeting her for a drink so she could offer him the position of OPA spokesman.

But Marcus said he had no interesting in slaying dragons, as Quinn put it, arguing that OPA is “hemorrhaging clients” in the wake of the Olivia-as-mistress-scandal.

Wait… so why did he turn around 24 hours later and accept the position? Because he needs the money.

Marcus does insist that he’s an activist, though, not a puppet, calling out the media for its racist coverage of Olivia during his first press conference.

Fitz and Olivia, meanwhile, butted heads after the former fired Abby, with the latter saying she finds it “offensive” he tried to rescue her. So Fitz hires Abby back.

There’s also some commentary mixed in about the unfortunate nature of online criticism these days. Or bullying, we should really call it.

“A lot of anonymous Internet people want to have me killed,” Olivia laments to Fitz.

“Also raped… I have at least a thousand threats of rape here… from guys who are mad that I had the audacity to be born female. And black.”

As for Mellie? She’s in a difficult position because the women of the Senate want to impeach their cheating President.

Cyrus implores Mellie to be aggressive, though, giving a classic Cyrus pep talk (You either go after your husband and claim the White House for your own or you do nothing and end up being a sad little well-meaning freshman senator… wanting to hang yourself.)… only to then quit after Mellie calls him out for just being hurt by Fitz, his “son.”

Finally, Fitz says screw it. And takes Olivia out on an actual date! So, naturally, Mellie responds by telling her senators that she’s in. The impeachment is on!

GULP! Also: AWESOME!
