Peggy McCay, Beloved Days of Our Lives Star, Dead at 90

Peggy McCay, a veteran actress best known for her long-running role on Days of Our Lives, passed away on Sunday from natural causes.

She was 90 years old.

The very sad news about this soap opera icon was shared on Facebook by her co-star and close friend, Deidre Hall.

Wrote Hall as confirmation:

Our dearest Peggy McCay has left us. She was a friend, an activist and a real scrapper!! I remember meeting her at the bedside of a dear, very ill friend.

I backed her up as she ferociously took on doctors and nurses to make sure he had the very best care. She fought that hard for all her causes. Passionate and tireless.

And how she loved being “Caroline”!!

Indeed, McCay portrayed the character of Caroline Brady for 35 years.

McCay originated the role of Vanessa Dale on the CBS soap opera Love of Life in 1951 and appeared on that program for four years.

However, it was her portrayal of family matriarch Brady on Days of Our Lives for which she is best known. By far.

McCay joined the cast in 1983 and was nominated four times for a Daytime Emmy for the role, most recently in 2016.

Her final episode on the series aired on August 24, 2016.

“I just heard the news that #PeggyMccay has passed,” Tweeted Jen Lilley, one of many actresses who paid tribute on social media today.

“She was like a real grandmother to me, a mentor, a great source of encouragement, and she was so hilariously fierce. You are deeply missed Peggy!”

Co-star Thaao Penghlis described McCay as “always a classy lady” and added as part of his full statement:

Peggy McCay cared about her craft, her fellow actors and the Life of Days. She reigned well in this most pressured profession of Daytime.”

McCay won a Primetime Emmy for Outstanding Guest Actress in a drama series for The Trials of Rosie O’Neill.

She also earned a Primetime Emmy nomination for a guest role as Mrs. Carruthers on Cagney & Lacey.

The well-respected star’s other TV credits include:

  • Maverick

  • The Andy Griffith Show

  • Perry Mason

  • Gunsmoke

  • L.A. Law

  • Cold Case

  • Lou Grant

Wrote Sal Stowers on Twitter:

“Peggy McCay was such a beautiful and tender woman. Her Presence was truly special to be around. Very honored to have shared precious time with her.

“Fly with the angels Ms. McCay.”

We join these individuals and all the others who have expressed their remorse over McCay’s passing.

She was a wonderful actress.

May she rest in peace.

Peggy Sulahian: Also Ousted from The Real Housewives of Orange County!

Calling all rich and spoiled women who want to be sort of famous on television:

Bravo has a couple of opening for you!

Fresh off the news that Lydia McLaughlin would not be returning for a new season of The Real Housewives of Orange County, Bravo has now announced another cast departure…

We hardly even knew ya, Peggy Sulahian.

Following just one year on this cable network franchise, Sulahian has been let go by producers, who apparently weren’t pleased with Peggy’s role on Season 12.

Over the course of her brief run on the series, which culminated in Sulahian basically hiding out alone in her Iceland hotel room, the Z-Lister bonded with Vicki Gunvalson…

… while fighting with basically every other cast member.

“What an exciting experience it was to be part of The Real Housewives of Orange County! It was an honor to be the 100th housewife and to be part of the Bravo family,” wrote on BravoTV.com in response to this news.

She added:

“I am extremely proud of being the 1st Armenian-American Housewife and sharing my culture with the world.

“While I faced and conquered many challenges, I’m grateful for the opportunity to share my story and spread awareness of breast cancer.”

Sulahian went on to say that this breast cancer diagnosis is what prompted her to resign from the show, claiming she is leaving on her own terms.

“Dealing with the disease and the passing of my father challenged me to reassess and reflect on my life, and I’ve realized what’s most important is leading a healthy and happy life, surrounded by people who care and love you.

“At this point, moving on seemed like the right thing to do.

“A few new ventures have availed themselves, and I look forward to sharing them with you soon!”

Radar Online, however, counters that both Sulahian and McLaughlin (pictured below) were fired by executives – and that both women were among the last to even learn their fate.

According to this report, Peggy was told by her friends and by the network simultaneously that she was on her way out.

Similarly, McLaughlin released a statement last Friday that made it sound as if she quit.

In reality, though, she only said these words to save face after being told that she wasn’t wanted back.

Peggy is looking forward to focusing on her family and her own opportunities. She is a very positive person and wants to be away from the negativity of the women,” an insider tells E! News, adding:

“Peggy is big on positive energy and wants that around her and her family.”

Sulahian and McLaughlin’s departures come on the heels of Meghan King Edmonds also leaving the show.

This means the only ladies set to return right now are Gunvalson, Tamra Judge, Shannon Beador and Kelly Dodd.

Prepare for a few casting announcements to be made by Bravo in the near future as a result.

Have anyone in mind you think should join the team?

Peggy Sulahian: Fired from The Real Housewives of Orange County!

Bye girl, bye!

Peggy Sulahian is a newcomer to The Real Housewives of Orange County, but though she was definitely in her share of unnecessary fights with costars, she didn’t make that big of a splash.

Now it’s reported that Peggy has been fired from the series.

We had already told you that, reportedly, three women will be fired from The Real Housewives of Orange County. Peggy Sulahian was one of the names that we gave you.

Not everybody has what it takes to be a Real Housewife.

You need to be affluent enough, interesting enough, dramatic enough.

At the same time, you need to be somehow relatable, you have to have normal elements to your life, and you have to get along well enough with your costars that you can all make the series together.

Peggy Sulahian?

Well … she’s definitely not in the poor-house. But she failed to be interesting enough to grasp the attention of most viewers.

She also failed to be likable.

RadarOnline reports that their sources (plural) say that Peggy Sulahian has been fired from The Real Housewives of Orange County.

“None of the ladies wanted to work with her anymore,” one source reports.

When your much more established costars can’t stand you, it’s not an entertaining feud — it’s potentially toxic to the series.

“After the reunion they were just done with her,” the source continued.

Another source tidily summarized what made Peggy such an undesirable Real Housewife.

“She didn’t bring anything to the table.”

Peggy’s erstwhile costars had a lot of reasons to dislike her, too.

For starters, there’s that time when Meghan King Edmonds and Vicki Gunvalson were talking and Peggy just … pinched Meghan’s lips shut.

As if that were a normal thing to do.

But there’s more.

Peggy, a mother of three, bashed Meghan King Edmonds’ parenting.

Unlike the conflict between Meghan and costar Lydia McLaughlin over Meghan having a psychic at her party and Lydia being weirded out for religious reasons, Peggy’s criticisms were deeply personal.

And they rubbed people the wrong way — costars and viewers alike.

Peggy also seemed to be paranoid that Kelly Dodd and Tamra Judge were making fun of her.

Whether she was really worried about it or was just playing up some paranoia for the cameras, we don’t know for sure. Either way, it wasn’t a great look.

Also, Peggy left early during this season’s girls’ trip to Iceland. To put it plainly: nobody likes a quitter.

But there’s something else:

Fans have pointed out that she gets offended at every little thing and that she tries to pass herself off as a dumb foreigner even though, well, she’s lived in the US for most of her life.

But what really gets under people’s skin is that Peggy Sulahian is a raging homophobe.

We’ve heard Vicki accused of homophobia for negging Tamra about rumors about her husband, Eddie Judge. We’ve heard Tamra accused of homophobia for being bothered by the rumors.

This is on another level. Peggy Sulahian reportedly banned her own brother, designer Pol’ Atteu (he was, like, BFFs with the late, great Anna Nicole Smith), from their father’s funeral.

It’s been reported that she even tried to have him removed from his father’s services by security.

Reality television can put up with a lot of bigotry — just look at the Duggars. But, if you look at Derick Dillard getting fired, you know that there’s a limit.

Peggy’s views were so bad that she got bashed by other Housewives and received public condemnation from Lisa Vanderpump.

All of these factors combine to making Peggy Sulahian a toxic castmember.

The question is: When will they announce this officially?

And who will be the next to get the axe?

Peggy Sulahian SLAMMED by Other Real Housewives for Homophobia!

Normally, when a Real Housewife refers to something as “horrific,” you take it with a grain of salt. Or perhaps a teaspoon of salt.

In this case, though, we’re talking about a woman — Peggy Sulahian, of The Real Housewives of Orange County — banning her brother from his own father’s funeral for the worst possible reason.

Her costars are absolutely right to describe her as “disgusting.”

Peggy Sulahian is a newcomer to The Real Housewives of Orange County.

You might recognize her as the Real Housewife who shocked viewers when she pinched Meghan Edmonds’ lips shut when Meghan and Vicki Gunvalson were having a conversation.

And that’s all kinds of bizarre.

But folks don’t know that much about her, yet.

From her BRAVO bio:

“Born in Kuwait to Armenian parents, Peggy Sulahian moved to the U.S. when she was one years old. She now lives a life of luxury in the exclusive Crystal Cove community with her custom wheel mogul husband Diko, and their three children — daughters Giovanna, 19, Gianelle, 17 and son Koko, 9.”

It’s usually nice when a long-running reality series gets new blood.

Viewers get to see how that changes the dynamics among the Housewives, you know?

In Peggy’s case, though, she’s quickly making enemies — and it’s not through how she treats her castmates.

(Well, not only that way)

It’s about the unspeakable way that Peggy treats her brother, Pol’ Atteu.

Pol’ Atteu is a well-known fashion designer, but he’s also a writer and producer.

He and his fiance, Patrik Simpson, were besties with the late Anna Nicole Smith.

(Pol’ even designed her burial gown)

RadarOnline confirmed with multiple witnesses that Peggy Sulahian banned her brother Pol’ from his own father’s funeral becuase Pol’ is gay.

In fact, she apparently hid from Pol’ that their father was ill and dying, denying Pol’ a chance to see him and say goodbye.

While their parents — who have now both passed away, as they had already lost their mother to breast cancer — were accepting of Pol’ because they loved their son, Peggy has been described as outrageously homophobic.

When Pol’ arrived at his own father’s funeral, Peggy apparently sought to have him removed.

There were witnesses.

And some Real Housewives, both present and former, have some choice words about Peggy.

Former Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star, Adrienne Maloof, spoke out about Peggy’s treatment of her brother.

“What Peggy has done to her brother is absolutely horrific.”

That’s the right way to describe banning someone from their parent’s funeral.

“It is extremely upsetting to me.”

It should be upsetting to everyone.

“Her anti-gay stance is just plain disgusting. Pol’ and Patrik are wonderful, loving people.”

It is 2017, but in case you wonder why so many people are still closeted and why LGBT folks stay so organized, it’s because there is still so much hatred and bigotry to overcome.

Adrienne is hoping that the guilt at what Peggy has done will eat away at her.

“Peggy knows what she did, and she will have to live with that.”

We wouldn’t hold our breath.

One of the witnesses who’s spoken up is L.A. attorney Eileen Keussayan:

“I have known Peggy’s family since 1974 when they first came to this country.”

“And I did attend Peggy’s father’s funeral. … She made it known that her brother Pol’ and his fiancé Patrik were not welcome because they are both homosexuals.”

In addition to going out of her way to try to shame them, Peggy also tried to have security oust them.

it’s horrible.

Peggy also refuses to allow Pol’ to have any contact with his nieces and nephew.

It’s hard to imagine being that hateful, you know?

This is after Lisa Vanderpump, bless her, had already gone off on Peggy’s blatant homophobia.

“I do not tolerate prejudice of any kind. And I have no interest in homophobia or in disgusting behavior like this. I do not condone or even acknowledge it.”

Lisa Vanderpump is kind of the sort of hero that the world needs sometimes, you know?

“Any attack on the gay community is something that I take very personally.”

Interesting that Peggy Sulahian doesn’t seem to have a problem appearing on Bravo, a decidedly LGBT-friendly network, so long as it helps her become famous.

And speaking of Bravo … we have to wonder what Andy Cohen’s thoughts might be.

Maybe Peggy’s reality career will end before it’s begun.
