Obdulia Sanchez, California Teen, Livestreams Crash That Killed Sister
Obdulia Sanchez, an 18-year old from California, is under arrest and under fire after she lost control of her car over the weekend while she was filming a livestream for Instagram.
She continued to film the video after the accident took place, while her younger sister lay dying on the ground.
According to The California Highway Patrol, Sanchez lost control of her 2003 Buick, drove the vehicle off the edge of the road and then over-corrected.
The car eventually crashed into a barbed-wire fence and flipped over in a field.
Authorities estimate that the car was going about 75 miles per hour when it crashed.
Most of the incident was captured on Sanchez’s camera.
After a gap in the livestream, Obdulia, who was behind the wheel at the time of the accident, can be seen seen leaning over the body of her 14-year old sister, Jacqueline, trying to shake her awake.
In the background, another passenger is heard crying and screaming.
Police have confirmed that the two passengers were not wearing seatbelts; that Jacqueline died at the scene; and that her unnamed friend survived with a leg injury.
“Jacqueline, please wake up. I f-cking killed my sister, OK?” Sanchez says on the livestream. “I know I’m going to jail for life. I love my sister… this is the last thing I thought was going to happen to us.”
Obdulia Sanchez filmed herself singing and gesturing to the camera before a deadly crash that killed her younger sister.
While the surviving broke down in tears alongside her, Sanchez continued as follows:
“I don’t f-ckin care though,” she said on camera, adding:
“I’m a hold it down. I love you, rest in peace, sweetie. If you don’t survive, baby, I am so f-ckin sorry. I did not mean to kill you, sweetie. Sweetie, I am f-ckin sorry. Sweetie, please, wake up!”
Obdulia Sanchez was later arrested on suspicion of drunken driving and vehicular manslaughter and remains in jail with bail set at $ 300,000.
The Merced County Sheriff Vern Warnke told ABC affiliate KFSN that Jacqueline “was in the back seat of the vehicle and allegedly unseatbelted, and upon the vehicle rolling over, it ejected her and killed her.”
This incident comes on the heels of teens in Florida accused of taunting and filming a man as he drowned.
Nicandro Sanchez, the father of Obdulia and her late sister, talked to this same ABC affiliate and said that he and his wife Gloria have seen the video and believe the crash was merely an “accident.”
Of the driver, he says:
“What I think is she knows she’s done something wrong. Because she knows, and that’s what I feel. She feels bad for herself, but she killed her own sister.”
Jacqueline Sanchez was supposed to celebrate her quinceañera on Sunday, according to a GoFundMe page set up to help cover the dead teen’s funeral expenses.
California Highway Patrol Sergeant Darin Heredia told BuzzFeed News that officials were “well aware” of the video.
They are attempting to determine whether it’s legitimate and, if so, whether Sanchez’s phone use contributed to the crash.
If so, it could be used as evidence against her in an upcoming prosecution.
Neither Obdulia Sanchez nor a lawyer representing her could be reached for comment.
She is expected in court on Wednesday for a hearing.

Stacey Sanchez Hits Elderly Man With Car, Continues Driving With Body Through Windshield
On Monday morning, some poor guy was coming back from a soup kitchen when the unthinkable happened.
29-year-old Esteysi Sanchez Izazaga (who goes by Stacey Sanchez) was driving her car at around 6:30 a.m. when, according to witnesses, the vehicle veered onto the sidewalk and struck a 69-year-old man.
“The force of the collision caused the victim to go through the windshield of the vehicle and become lodged in the front passenger seat,” the official police statement read, according to People.
Not only that, but the victim’s leg became detached from the rest of his body, and crashed through the rear window.
Authorities found the leg in the car’s trunk.
Sanchez, who was believed to be coming back from a night of partying, continued driving about a mile further towards her house.
Police believe that Sanchez abandoned the car in her neighborhood (with the victim still in it), and walked the rest of the way home.
The 29-year-old was arrested after her boyfriend called the police, and was later charged with a DUI, hit-and-run and vehicular manslaughter.
Edwin Esparza was changing his car’s oil when he saw the crash happen.
“There’s no words to really describe it. I mean, just seeing that up close and personal, it’s kind of traumatizing in a way,” Esparza told NBC San Diego.
Another local told the news station he didn’t want to come outside because he knew how graphic the scene would be.
“Horrific. Yeah I’ve never in my whole life have I heard a story like this,” Lou Torres told reporters.
“It was so strange that I couldn’t imagine any scenario that would cause this.”
Police said that “Based on statements obtained from Sanchez and preliminary tests in the field, it was determined she was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the collision.”
The victim’s identity has not yet been revealed.
