Ohio State University: Active Shooter Reported on Campus

A frightening situation is underway in Columbus, Ohio.

According to local authorities, at least seven people have been taken to a hospital after an active shooter was reported on the campus of Ohio State University.

It is not known at this time the type of injuries nor conditions of those transported.

Ohio State University

The school’s emergency management department sent out a Tweet about an hour ago that alerted students to the ongoing situation.

It urged them to take shelter, to be safe and to fight back if necessary; and it gave them an idea of where the shooter had been spotted.

“Active Shooter on campus. Run Hide Fight. Watts Hall. 19th and College,” read the first message.

It was followed a few minutes later by: “Continue to shelter in place. Avoid area of College. More information to follow.”

Around 10:20 a.m., the department wrote once more: “Continue to shelter in place in north campus area. Follow directions of Police on scene.”

Watts Hall, one of the locations referenced above, is the university’s materials science and engineering building.

Ohio State senior Anthony Falzarano has already been in contact with CNN, telling the network that he was in class at the time of the shooting.

“We heard a lot of sirens. I was in class and everyone got a text message at the same time for the emergency alert,” the 22-year old said.

“Someone said they heard popping right before we got the alert, but I didn’t hear it. We are in a shelter-in-place right now in the building next door.”

A spokeswoman for the Columbus Fire Department confirms that two people are listed as stable at Grant Medical Center and two others are at Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center.

However, their status is unclear.

NBC Nightly News reports that the FBI, Columbus Police and other agencies are helping the Ohio State University Police on campus.

Courtesy of social media, here is a look at authorities gathered on the scene:

Among others, Ohio Governor John Kasich have taken to Twitter to address the situation.

“Ohio’s thoughts and prayers go out to the Ohio State community. Be safe, listen to first responders,” wrote the former Presidential candidate.

Added Ohio Senator Rob Portman said:

“My and Jane’s thoughts and prayers are with the Ohio State community. Please be safe and listen to our first responders.”

Ohio State University’s main campus in Columbus is one of the largest in the United States. It played host to a major college football game against the Michigan Wolverines on Saturday, which the Buckeyes won in double overtime.

The university has more than 65,000 students enrolled across the state.

Sophomore Wyatt Crosher has also been in touch with CNN.

He says heard gunfire (maybe “three or four gunshots”) that he thinks came from a class building across the street from his dorm.

Students have been told told to keep their distance from this area while authorities investigate.

John Hinckley Jr: Ronald Reagan Shooter RELEASED From Psychiatric Hospital!

John Hinckley, Jr. – the man who shot President Ronald Reagan in a 1981 assassination attempt – has been released from the psychiatric hospital where he has resided since 1981.

Though Reagan survived the attack, he was seriously wounded along with several others.

A Secret Service agent and a police officer were both wounded, and press secretary James Brady was paralyzed by one of Hinckley’s bullets.

A 1994 handgun violence prevention law is commonly referred to as “the Brady Bill” in Brady’s honor.

When Brady passed away in 2014, his death was ruled a homicide.

Hinckley, who was judged not guilty by reason of insanity during his trial, has been in treatment at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Washington, D.C. for the past 35 years.

This morning, Judge Paul Friedman ruled that Hinckley should be released, due to the fact that he no longer represents a threat.

“The court finds by a preponderance of the evidence that Mr. Hinckley presents no danger to himself or to others in the reasonable future if released,” Friedman stated in court today.

Hinckley will likely be released before August 5.

He will be confined to his home for the next year, and his actions will be monitored by a court-approved psychiatrist.

If he adheres to guidelines laid out by the court, all restrictions to Hinckley’s freedom will likely be removed by the end of 2017.

The 61-year-old has been ordered not to contact any members of the Reagan family or Jodie Foster – the actress whose performance in the 1976 film Taxi Driver prompted a violent obsession in Hinckley.

Reactions to the news of the would-be assassin’s release have been mixed.

Many have applauded Friedman for his objectivity in focusing Hinckley’s progress and not the infamy of his deeds.

Others believe Hinckley should spend the rest of his life behind bars.

The 1981 verdict prompted a massive public outcry and led to several states revising their laws governing when the insanity defense could be used.

Former Miss Alabama Dubs Dallas Shooter a "Martyr"

Kalyn James, a former Miss Alabama champion, has created quite a stir on the Internet.

During a Facebook Live chat on Sunday, the ex-beauty queen addressed the topic of last week"s tragic shooting in Dallas, during which five police officers were killed at a Black Lives Matter protest.

The shooter has been identified as Micah Xavier Johnson… and James says in the video below that she actually sympathizes with the terrorist.

She knows she shouldn"t.

But…

“I’m dealing with a bit of guilt because I don’t feel sad for the officers that lost their lives,” she says.

“I know that that’s really not my heart. I value human life. And I want to feel sad for them, but I can’t help but feeling like the shooter was a martyr.”

James, who now works as a television host, went on to say that she “wasn’t surprised” by the cops’ murders because she, too, was upset and frustrated by the recent deaths of black men by police.

Both Alton Sterling and Philando Castile were controversially shot to death by officers a few days before Johnson"s heinous actions.

“I know it’s not the right way to feel, because nobody deserves to lose their lives. I know that those police officers had families and people who loved them and that they didn’t deserve to die,” she said of officers Michael Smith, Lorne Ahrens, Michael Krol, Patrick Zamarripa and Brent Thompson.

“But I’m so torn up in my heart about seeing these men, these black men, being gunned down in our community …

"I wasn’t surprised by what the shooter did to those cops and I think a lot of us feel the same way and I know that it’s not right … I definitely don’t condone violence against innocent people."

Except… she just referred to Johnson as a "martyr."

Safe to say this was one of those times when she should have just kept her mouth shut.

James has received significant backlash since making this video.

She has since offered an apology to WPMI, saying she “apologize[s] to anyone who was offended by my comments – my heart was not filled with hate.”

Nevertheless, Miami TV station WPBT2 has James her on leave for her controversial comments.

You can"t exactly express any sort of sympathy for a mass murderer and expect to keep your job as a public figure.

We do not condone any suggestion that terrorism is acceptable or that it should be tolerated,” WPBT2 said in a statement on Twitter.

"WPBT2 South Florida PBS does not condone the personal statements made by one of its independent contractors regarding the events in Dallas.

"It placed the contractor on administrative leave while it actively and carefully looks further into the matter and will determine additional course of actions based on its thorough review of the matter."

Omar Mateen Gay: Orlando Shooter Was Pulse Nightclub Regular, Former Classmates Say

A former classmate of Omar Mateen’s says Mateen was gay, once asked him out and visited the site of last weekend’s massacre often.

Officials say Mateen shot and killed 49 people (50 by some estimates) and injured 53 others at Orlando’s Pulse nightclub early Sunday.

The classmate quoted by the Palm Beach Post said he studied with the future killer at Indian River Community College police academy.

He said that he, Mateen and other classmates would go out to gay bars and clubs after classes, and that he asked him out romantically.

“We went to a few gay bars with him, and I was not out at the time, so I declined his offer,” the former classmate told the newspaper.

The source, who requested anonymity, said Mateen was gay, but not open about it, and that he was uncomfortable, and people felt sorry for him.

“He just wanted to fit in and no one liked him,” he said.

“He was always socially awkward.”

The Los Angeles Times, meanwhile, reports that Omar Mateen attended the Pulse nightclub as many as a dozen times before the rampage.

Kevin West said he had messaged Mateen back and forth for a year on the gay dating app Jack’d but never met him until 1 a.m. Sunday.

“He walked directly past me. I said, ‘Hey,’ and he turned and said, ‘Hey,’” and nodded his head, West said. “I could tell by the eyes.”

At least four regulars at Pulse, a popular night spot with the LGBT community, told the Orlando Sentinel that they’d seen Mateen there.

Ty Smith said he saw him a dozen times at least:

“Sometimes he would go over in the corner and sit and drink by himself, and other times he would get so drunk he was loud and belligerent.”

“We didn’t really talk to him a lot, but I remember him saying things about his dad at times,” Smith said. “He told us he had a wife and child.”

Mateen, whose ex-wife says he was unstable and violent with her, had been going to Pulse for three years, another source reveals.

Chris Callen says Mateen even had to be escorted out on multiple occasions, including one incident where he pulled a knife on a friend.

Before carrying out the worst shooting in U.S. history, Omar was interviewed by the FBI twice regarding suspicious ties, but never arrested.

Mateen’s father, for his part, emphatically said Monday that his son was not gay: “If he was gay, why would he do something like this?”

Omar Mateen: What Did the FBI Know About the Orlando Shooter?

Omar Mateen has been identified as the Orlando shooter who took the lives of over 50 people on Saturday night.

We now know that Mateen used an assault rifle to kill an incomprehensible number of patrons at a gay Florida nightclub called Pure.

He also took a number of individuals hostage before police broke into the establishment and Mateen was killed in a shootout around 5 a.m. local time.

But what do we actually know about Omar Mateen?

He was a U.S. citizen who was born in New York and who, according to his ex-wife, was an abusive husband.

His parents are of Afghan descent and his father is on record as saying he thinks Mateen committed this unspeakable crime because he was grossed out recently upon seeing two gay men kiss.

We also know that Mateen called 911 on Saturday night to brag about his killing and align himself with ISIS.

Omar quote

But what did the FBI know about Omar Mateen prior to these fatal acts?

The answer to that question is chilling.

Via press conference, FBI official Ronald Hopper has said that Mateen has been on the organization’s radar for years.

In 2013, Matten made “inflammatory comments to coworkers,” – presumably terrorism related – which prompted the FBI to investigate and interview him.

Mateen was also investigated by the FBI in 2014, over alleged ties to American suicide bomber Moner Mohammad Abusalha, the agency has confirmed.

Because the FBI could not produce any evidence against Mateen as it related to his terrorist ties, these investigations were closed and Mateen was left to live freely.

Still… despite these rumored terrorist affiliations, Mateen had purchased a “long gun” and a handgun within a week of the Orlando attack, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives says.

The weapons were purchased legally.

Since the heinous attack, ISIS has come out and claimed responsibility for the actions.

We’ll continue to share more news regarding this horrible tragedy as it breaks.

Orlando Shooter Ex-Wife: He Was Unstable, Used to Beat Me

Last night, Omar Mateen allegedly entered a gay nightclub in Orlando, Fla. and opened fire, killing 50 people and injuring at least 53 more in the deadliest mass shooting in U.S. history.

Orlando police later shot the suspect. He was 29.

While police continue to investigate, Mateen’s ex-wife tells The Washington Post that he was unstable and violent.

“He was not a stable person,” said the ex-wife, who chose to remain anonymous out of safety concerns.

“He beat me. He would just come home and start beating me up because the laundry wasn’t finished or something like that.”

She revealed that they had met online and got married in 2009. They moved into a two-bedroom condo in Fort Pierce, Fla., owned by Mateen’s family.

“He seemed like a normal human being,” she said, noting that he was not religious at the time and she knew of no connection to radical Islam.

She confirmed that Mateen was born to Afghan parents but was born in New York.

The ex-wife said she finally escaped the marriage when her parents learned of Mateen’s assaults on her.

They flew to Fort Pierce and pulled her out of the home, leaving her belongings behind.

“They literally saved my life,” she said.

The ex-wife added she never spoke with Mateen after that. The two were officially divorced in 2011.

President Obama has referred to the tragedy as “an act of terror and an act of hate.”

Speaking to NBC News, Mateen’s father, Mir Seddique, said his son’s crime “has nothing to do with religion,” indicating that it was motivated by hate.

He explained that Mateen became enraged two months prior after seeing two men kissing in Miami and believes the incident may have prompted his heinous actions.

“We are saying we are apologizing for the whole incident,” Seddique said. “We weren’t aware of any action he is taking. We are in shock like the whole country.”

World"s Tallest Actress Wants Protection ... From "Amazon" Shooter

Z STAFF

EXCLUSIVE

0925-lindsay-kay-hayward-tmz-01

Lindsay Kay Hayward says a guy with a gun has made her life miserable and she needs a judge to protect her from harassment and harm.

Lindsay — the nearly 7 footer on TLC‘s “My Giant Life” — claims her manager has guns, practices shooting them and has “joked that the only way to ‘put an Amazon down’ is to shoot them.”

The former WWE professional wrestler says it’s not just about her safety … she says former manager Brad Konia is on a campaign to destroy her personally and professionally. She says Konia has contacted her employers and potential employers and slandered her. She says he’s done the same on her website.

She humble brags a bit, telling the judge she’s especially worried Konia will sully her upcoming guest spot on “Grey’s Anatomy.”

For his part … Brad tells TMZ he’s never threatened to harm Lindsay … not even jokingly. He believes Lindsay’s gripes stem from an ongoing lawsuit he filed against her over money.

The judge didn’t buy the emergency and rejected Lindsay’s petition for a temporary restraining order.
