Jill Duggar & Derick Dillard Accused of Stereotyping Latin Americans

We’re sure the Duggar family spent the past few weeks praying for a scandal-free new year, but so far, Jill Duggar and her husband Derick Dillard have done nothing but attract negative attention in 2016.

Earlier this week, a photo on Jill’s Instagram page prompted widespread fan speculation about Derick’s health, as her husband appeared extremely gaunt and just generally…different.

Just one day later, the Dillards found themselves at the heart of a social media controversy yet again when a photo of baby Israel led to accusations of negligent parenting.

Today, the couple awoke to find themselves involved in their third mini-scandal in as many days.

The good news is that Jill and Derick must have grown accustomed to weathering these storms by now.

The bad news is that the Dillards are now under fire for something that probably won’t be as easily forgotten as an un-baby-proofed electrical outlet.

As you may know, Jill and Derick are currently in Guatemala to perform missionary work.

No, they haven’t been accused of scamming fans out of donations and quietly returning to Arkansas again.

This time they’re actually sticking it out in Central America – but it seems they understand little and respect even less about the culture and the people of their temporary home.

The following is an excerpt from a press release issued by Seeker of Souls – the missionary organization that Jill and Derick are working with – that the Dillards have chosen to share online:

It is SOS’s privilege to introduce Derick and Jill Dillard to the Latin mission. They will come alongside Alex Lara, our Director of Missions for Latin America, to assist, preach, and engage the new regions. We have prepared, trained and now appointed them.

“Both of them will help with strengthening and encouraging married couples, which is mostly neglected in the Latin world, and they have already led a group from the church to a new region to preach the gospel.”

As you might guess, it’s the part about the people of Latin America neglecting their marriages that’s resulted in public outrage.

The claim is not only bigoted, but completely unsupported by any factual evidence, as the divorce rate in Guatemala is less than one-tenth of what it is in the US.

Jill and Derick have yet to respond to the controversy (or explain why in the hell they decided to share this damning mission statement online), but we’re sure their PR folks are cooking up something asinine as we speak.

Queen Gives Will and Kate The Crown, Tells Charles To Get Lost

There’s a gold badge that says “Palace Confirms,” so it must be true.

OK! Royal Rumor Tabloid

As the eyes and ears of the British Monarchy, OK! Magazine has broken the story of the century.

JK, it’s a load of sheep manure.

This week’s cover claims that the Queen has skipped the Princes of Wales and instead selected his eldest son, Prince William as monarch of the UK and Commonwealth realms.

Sure!

“They are so incredibly excited,” a source told OK! Magazine of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. “They always knew this day might come. They just never expected it so soon.

Apparently the lovebirds “started crying” when the Queen told them over the holidays.

“It took a minute to sink in,” the source said.  “Kate hugged and kissed William, and it was a completely overwhelming moment for them.

“When Kate told George, ‘Mummy is going to be Queen,’ he went off to draw a family portrait and castle!”

WTF.

The Queen’s reason for relinquishing her responsibilities is so she and Prince Philip, 94, can enjoy their lives together.

“She wants to spend every possible moment with the man who’s been by her side for 70 years,” the insider said.

“She’d hate for something to happen to him while she’s away on official business.”

Here’s the thing: Philip has accompanied the Queen on nearly every one of her official engagements, at home and abroad.

No one’s told Prince Charles yet, which is a shame because he’s been waiting to to inherit his birth right.

Oh well!

No period of mourning will take place, as it usually does when one monarch passes.  This means that the coronation will happen this spring.  What fun!

Oh, and Catherine’s already started redecorating Buckingham Palace, which is weird because there isn’t a lot of money set aside for much other than repairs. The plumbing and wiring hasn’t been updated in over 50 years, so those new window treatments will have to wait.

Having spent a lot of time studying royalty, the laws of succession and the relationships between members of the House of Windsor, there are a lot of stories like this that irritate me.

Surprisingly, I find this one more entertaining than most (especially the bit about George drawing a family portrait).

Why?  Because the Duke of Cambridge has done everything he can to push off his destiny for as long as humanly possible, and he and the Duchess of Cambridge take on fewer royal engagements than other members of their family because they want to focus on their children without the burden of the crown.

William has told royal aides that he wants to not think about becoming king for as long as he’s able to.

The prince is also known to be a bit stubborn and set in his ways, an attitude that many believe comes from the death of his mother, the Princess of Wales, at the hands of paparazzi.

William knows that reporters and photographers comes with the territory, but he also insists that he and his family be allowed to live as normally as possible until he inherits the throne.

He considers the position a burden he is not yet ready to take on, as he’s shown through accepting a job as a co-pilot with the East Anglia Air Ambulance service.  Traditionally, no direct heir to the throne has ever taken on a civilian job.

William has also made no secret that he doesn’t not intend to leap-frog anyone in order to become king.

Both he and Her Majesty know how long Charles has waited to inherit the throne, and as a woman who declared her dedication to duty in Westminster Abbey over sixty years ago, the Queen will not abdicate or retire as many of her contemporaries have.

Being monarch is a job for life, and one that the Queen will do until her last breath.

Bill Cosby: Cleared of Sexual Assault Charges in LA

Last week, Bill Cosby was charged with felony assault in connection with allegations made by Andrea Constand, one of more than 50 women who have accused Cosby of sexual misconduct.

At first, it seemed that the walls might be closing in on Cosby, as on the day the charges were announced, he was also being investigated for allegedly molesting Chloe Goins, a teenage model he met at the Playboy Mansion in 2008.

Now, however, TMZ is reporting that Cosby is in the clear in LA after the DA rejected charges filed against him by both Goins and a teenager whom he allegedly assaulted in 1965.

The latter case was thrown out due to the statute of limitations, while Goins’ charges were rejected as a result of insufficient evidence.

Cosby reportedly had an alibi proving that he was out of the town on the night that Goins claimed that she crossed paths with him.

It looks as though Cosby won’t even face a civil suit for allegedly drugging and fondling Goins, as sources say she and Cosby reached a secret settlement last month.

So the formerly beloved TV icon may be celebrating today (which we imagine includes sporting his zaniest sweater while making funny faces in time to smooth jazz music), but he still faces up to ten years in prison if he’s found guilty in the Constand case.
