Miss USA 2016: And the Winner is...

For several years now, it’s been safe to say that Washington D.C. has been a loser.

Just look at the Wizards. At the performance of the Capitals in the NHL playoffs. At the insistence of the Redskins to continue to be known as the “Redskins.”

And at the approval rating of Congress.

But Deshauna Barber is here to do something about this reputation!

Representing the District of Columbia at the Miss USA Pageant on Sunday night, Barber impressed the judges with her looks, talent and intelligence.

They all added up to an unexpected victory inside T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

Following an intense, ridiculously sexist competition, the final three came down to Barber, Miss Hawaii and Miss Georgia, as the contestants were asked to define what “confidently beautiful” meant to them.

“To me confidently beautiful means understanding that it’s not always about your appearance,” Barner explained, adding:

“It’s not always about who you’re around and how they feel you look, where they feel you come from or your economic background.

“Serving in the military has taught me that being confidently beautiful is about being able to earn respect from people regardless of what you look like. As a woman in the military, people associate beauty with weakness and they learn very quickly that I’m extremely strong.

“And although I’m small, I’m powerful and confidently beautiful is being myself and being very happy with who I’ve become. Thank you.”

That’s a solid answer to an absurd question.

The Miss USA Pageant started with 52 contestants, whittling itself down 15 beauties by bikini portion of the show.

Yes, this is 2016 and this is still something that exists in the country.

Earlier in the program, Deshauna Barber also asked about the Pentagon’s recent decision to open up all combat jobs to women.

This is what she said:

“As a woman in the United States Army, I think it was an amazing job by our government to allow women to integrate into every branch of the military.

“We are just as tough as men.

“As a commander of my unit, I’m powerful, I am dedicated. And it is important that we recognize that gender does not limit us in the United States Army.”

We agree. Women are just as tough as men.

But does anyone else see irony in this question being posed during the Miss USA Pageant?

Talk to us when there’s a Mr. USA Pageant.

Or, better yet, no beauty pageants of any kind in the world.

Johnny Karagiorgis, Real Housewives of New Jersey Star, Dies of Heart Attack

Johnny Karagiorgis, a frequent guest star on The Real Housewives of New Jersey who went by the nickname “The Greek,” died suddenly on Saturday night.

According to Entertainment Tonight, Karagiorgis passed away from a heart attack.

Karagiorgis and his wife, Penny Drossos-Karagiorgis, owned a hair salon in New Jersey.

It was featured quite often over the first few seasons of the Bravo reality hit, especially in 2013 because cast members Kim DePaola and Teresa Giudice would visit the establishment.

Most prominently, though, those who watch The Real Housewives of New Jersey online are aware that Karagiorgis was infamously involved in a bloody brawl with Joe Gorga.

It took place after the reality star approached Karagiorgis at Kim D’s Posche 2 store opening following remarks he had supposedly made about his wife, Melissa Gorga.

The violent confrontation never aired on Bravo. But it resulted in Karagiorgis filing a lawsuit against Joe, along with Chris and Jacqueline Laurita.

Gorga and the Lauritas eventually testified that the salon owner was “obsessed” with the stars of the reality smash hit.

Neither Johnny nor Penny appeared on The Real Housewives of New Jersey after this incident.

“Devastating!! Lost a good friend tonight! Johny The Greek @johnnythegrk rest well my firend #RIP #friend,” Tweeted Dave Palladino after learning the sad news over the weekend.

Jerseylicious star Anthony Lombardi also took to social media to mourn the Garden State native, writing:

“RIP to a good friend and a great man Johnny the Greek.”

Karagiorgis is survived by his wife and by his son.

We send our condolences to his friends, family members and loved ones.

Keeping Up with the Kardashians Season 12 Episode 5 Recap: Fake it "Til You Make it

After a one-week Memorial Day hiatus, Keeping Up with the Kardashians returned Sunday night with a series of interesting developments.

In a throwback to made up, ridiculous storylines of yore, Keeping Up with the Kardashians Season 12 Episode 5 truly was a doozy.

Khloe Kardashian, Kylie Jenner and Kendall Jenner all dressed up in prosthetics in an attempt to be “normal” on the Sunday installment.

Yeah. It was that kind of week in Calabasas.

Kylie told Khloe she felt trapped by fame, and the E! producers hatched the idea to make them dress up and walk around inkongnito.

“Life is life, but sometimes I just wanna be a kid,” she said. “I can’t remember what it’s like to go out and nobody know who I am.”

One would think that with everything going on in their lives, the editors would not have to resort to this kind of thing. Case in point?

Scott Disick bailing on Kanye’s fashion show.

“I felt like I was overstepping my boundaries,” Scott said, explaining his decision to peace out. “I was like, ‘You know what, dude?"”

“I don’t wanna go to this show that’s gonna be in every f–king publication, and I’m gonna be standing there like a f–king tagalong."”

Khloe then invited him to celebrate Robert Kardashian’s birthday with the crew, but he moped the entire time about his baby mama.

“When you’ve been with somebody for 10-11 years, and then all of a sudden you’re not,” Disick lamented, there are some life challenges.

“Kourtney and I are in kind of weird state, and it doesn’t make things easier when we sit next to each other. I don’t really know how to act.”

“You can’t touch them a certain way, or talk to them a certain way, or look at them a certain way, it’s a lot of things to get used to.”

Khloe’s take on Scott’s behavior? “[It’s] the same conversation, ‘What can I do to get Kourt back?’ I’m like, ‘Scott, you’re not trying at all."”

She did end up comforting him and getting him to cheer up, while Scott and Lamar opened up to each other during the family dinner too.

Lamar admitted that he was “scared half to death” while in hospital, while Disick came clean about his own fears – about seeing Odom.

“I couldn’t handle it,” he said. “I left, I was like, ‘I can’t see this man like this.’ I felt like you were dying to talk and you couldn’t.”

Lamar insisted he is done with bad influences.

“I mean, I can’t really take the risk, you know what I’m saying?” the former NBA star said, referring to his demons and motioning to Khloe.

“I can’t do it to that girl over there.”

You don’t have to watch Keeping Up with the Kardashians online to know that this didn’t work out as planned, but it was a nice moment.

Sadly, Khloe filed for divorce a second time as reports swirl that Lamar Odom is back on crack, and Disick … is still just being Disick.
