Katie Couric: I Hope That Matt Lauer Has Learned His Lesson

Disgraced television host Matt Lauer has been fired for sexual harassment and Today Show ratings are higher than they’ve been in years.

Now, months later, Katie Couric is speaking out about Lauer and what it was like to work with him and how she insulated herself against harassment.

She also speaks about what she hopes for Matt Lauer’s present and future.

While speaking at TheWrap’s Power Women Breakfast at SXSW, Katie Couric discussed the #MeToo movement and what it’s been like as a woman in her position to experience that for these past months.

And, very naturally, she also speaks about her fallen former colleague, Matt Lauer.

First, she acknowledges that she’s been immersed in this perilous world since long before the #MeToo movement came about.

“I certainly dealt with sexist environments and environments that marginalized and didn’t give women their due, and didn’t treat women as intellectual equals.”

Katie says, however, that the accusations against Matt Lauer and ensuing scandal were much more personal.

“But it’s hit very close to home with Matt Lauer and what happened there.”

Katie elaborated about how listening to #MeToo stories has been illuminating for her.

“It’s been an important experience for me because I never faced this kind of treatment.”

A lot of people — men and women — are discovering for the first time just how perilous the world can be.

Katie knows why predatory men were wary of her.

“I was one of the lucky ones — I think I am harassable and I’m not harassable in that sense, and I think it is because I was in a position of power early in my career.”

To be clear, she’s not saying that there’s something special about her demeanor that makes people unwilling to harass her. Women who are targeted for harassment do not “invite” it.

Rather, she’s saying that securing a position of power as early as she did made men like Matt Lauer treat her as a colleague rather than as a potential target.

Here comes what’s probably her most controversial line.

Katie Couric speaks about what she hopes that Matt Lauer is up to now.

“I hope he’s trying to figure out and understand his behavior and why he did it and why it was so wrong.”

So she hopes that he learned his lesson. Does she imagine that Matt Lauer might have a career after this?

Even in this context, she can’t help but sound like she’s singing his praises.

“We had a wonderful working relationship.”

Perhaps she’s trying to speak of how

She says that she’s still reeling from the revelations about Matt Lauer.

“It’s shocking, honestly, and disturbing, disorienting, disheartening — all of those d-words.”

She points out that there are others, probably countless men who are still employed, who are predatory wolves in sheep’s clothing.

“But I think, he’s not the only one who behaves in this way …”

That has been made abundantly clear since the autumn of 2017.

“Cultures have existed in the media, and in every arena, where behaviors were tolerated, people looked the other way, it was an accepted way of doing business.”

She says that, regrettably, most people looked the other way.

“I don’t think people paid much attention to it.”

Some accuse Katie Couric of hypocrisy.

She took part in a secret roast of Matt Lauer back in 2008. The content of that roast was said to have mentioned his alleged sexual exploits.

But there’s a difference between someone cheating on his wife (obviously, Annette Roque has finally filed for divorce) and someone preying upon colleagues who don’t feel like they can say no.

And then there was the woman who accused him of locking her in his office, bending her over, and sexually assaulting her — and of only stopping and unlocking the door when she passed out.

It’s probably safe to say that most colleagues who didn’t know the truth chalked up rumors about him as exaggerations and didn’t realize how sinister their colleague’s alleged activities really were.

Lauren Swanson: Why Is Josiah Duggar"s Mystery Girl Keeping Such a Low Profile?

It’s been nearly two months since we first learned that Josiah Duggar and Lauren Swanson are engaged.

The news came just weeks after word of Josiah and Lauren’s courtship went public, but that’s not unusual in the Duggar clan.

Relationships proceed quickly for the members of reality TV’s biggest brood, even when the parties involved are as young as Josiah and Lauren.

(He’s 21; she’s just 18.)

But the newest Duggar couple is unique in at least two important ways:

For one thing, this is not Josiah’s first courtship.

As Duggar obsessives are no doubt aware, Josiah briefly courted Marjorie Jackson back in 2015.

The relationship didn’t work out, making Josiah the first of his generation to enter a courtship that didn’t result in marriage.

On top of that, virtually nothing is known about Lauren, her past, or her family.

A few details about Lauren’s parents and siblings have been revealed on the Duggars’ social media pages, and not surprisingly, her clan shares a lot in common with Josiah’s.

“They’re really similar, our families, with a lot of the same goals,” Josiah said of the Swansons in a recent interview.

He’s certainly not joking on that score.

Lauren is the daughter of a minister, and her mother is currently pregnant with her ninth child.

The Swanson family may never balloon to the staggering size of the Duggars, but it seems Lauren’s parents are also big into procreation.

But what about Lauren herself?

In video interviews she’s recorded alongside her fiancé, Swanson has been virtually silent.

No big surprise there, as we imagine it’s rather daunting to go straight from the shadows of obscurity into the glaring spotlight of Duggar fame.

But between her youth and the quickness with which her relationship with Josiah has proceeded, it’s possible that Lauren will marry into the Duggar family while remaining more of a mystery to fans than any of her predecessors.

Naturally, fans have a lot of questions.

For now, at least, Lauren’s not doing much talking, but fortunately, some of those questions have laughably obvious answers.

One thing that a lot of fans seem curious about is Lauren’s education level.

Many have wondered if she’ll attend college, and while Ms. Swanson has been mum on the matter, we think we can safely answer for her by saying, no, she will not.

Duggars have little respect for formal education, and very few members of the family have shown any interest in further study beyond the GEDs they all get when they complete their homeschooling.

As for Lauren’s curious lack of a southern accent – a matter that’s also raised quite a few eyebrows among the Duggar faithful – well, we don’t know for sure where she’s from, but we’re guessing it’s of little concern to Josiah.

After all, a woman doesn’t have to be Dixie Land to pop out a whole lot of children.

Audrey Roloff Sends Farewell Message to Fans

How is this for irony?

TLC has confirmed that Audrey Roloff and her family will return to the small screen on April 3, when Little People, Big World premieres its highly-anticipated 13th season.

But just as Audrey is about to come back into your life in this regard, she’s set to depart your life in another one.

Indeed, Audrey and husband Jeremy Roloff confirmed to fans last week that they are taking a social media hiatus.

Tragically, you will not be treated to any new photos of daughter Ember Jean or any fresh musings on faith and family from this beloved twosome.

Not any time in the near future, at least, for one pretty cool reason:

The Roloffs are writing a book!

The book will “essentially [be] our love story,” Audrey explained upon making this major announcement, adding on Instagram at the time:

“We are spilling never before told tales from our dating journey, and all the ups and downs and ins and outs of our love story.

“The pages are filling up with our failures and successes, what we learned from dating and long distance, and how we prepared more for our marriage than our wedding.”

In order to complete this project and dedicate time to making it the best they can be, Audrey and Jeremy are going away for a little while.

Social media wise, that is.

Before she takes this break, though, Audrey has a few things she wants to tell her 705,000 followers.

“In case you missed our big news, @jeremyroloff and I will be taking a bit of a social media break,” she wrote over last weekend, expounding as follows:

“We’re not exactly sure how long, but we need to unplug for a bit. I saw a quote the other day that said, ‘Almost anything will work again if you unplug it for a minute or two. Especially you."”

Here’s the thing, however: Audrey is signing off for more just a minute.

She says it will be a minimum of a “few weeks in order to give undivided attention to writing our book and being with our baby girl.”

Those are two very important things, no doubt.

So, what are fans to do in the meantime?

They can go watch Little People, Big World online to get their fill of the Roloffs, as always.

And also…

“Turn on post notifications for my account so you know when I’m back! Otherwise the Instagram algorithm will make me disappear from your feed forever,” Audrey notes.

In the meantime, she leaves loyal supporters with three pieces of advice:

FIRST, she writes:

If you have a question, you can likely find the answer in my Instagram story “favorites.” Click my profile and they should appear.

SECOND:

For customer service regarding my shop alwaysmore.com you can reach out via @shopalwaysmore and my assistant will be happy to help you!

And THIRD:

Get on our mailing list (link in bio). We’ll be sending out a few updates on our book and of course a little dose of Ember;) Because how can you resist that plump precious face?

In conclusion, Audrey has this to say:

Thank you all in advance for respecting our time away, and we would be forever grateful if you would join us in prayer over our book as we finish writing.

Please pray that the Holy Spirit would inspire or writing, and that this book would be a tool to inspire, encourage, challenge, and change peoples view of love, approach to dating, and desire for marriage.

LOVE YOU GUYS! Keep on ALWAYS believing in the MORE that is with you. Bye for now.

Will you be picking up a copy of Audrey and Jeremy’s book?

Will you be tuning in for Little People, Big World Season 13?

We sure hope so on both accounts.

Because we’ll need others with whom we can talk about each as the weeks and months go by!
