The Voice Recap: Miley Said Knock You Out!

The Voice Season 11 Knockout Rounds are underway, with Adam Levine, Blake Shelton, Miley Cyrus and Alicia Keys making tough calls.

And more tough calls, and more tough calls after that.

Let’s break down the Knockout rounds of the NBC hit.

Team Blake: Josh Gallagher vs. Sundance Head

Blake chose his two country powerhouses to go head-to-head with each other. Josh decided that the best course of action for him was to follow the route of strict interpretation of his song.  He knew the song to do that with was Brooks and Dunn’s “My Maria.”

As expected, his performance was a success. The dude sure knows how to sing, so we would not have expected anything less from him.

However, Sundance Head opted to perform “The Climb” by Miley Cyrus and it sounded pretty amazing. Like, benchmarking it against Josh’s performance really showed the vocal range of Sundance Head.

Winner: Sundance Head!

Steal: Josh Gallagher to Team Adam Levine!

Team Alicia: Kylie Rothfield vs. Whitney and Shannon

There’s no denying that Kylie, Whitney and Shannon have become very close friends, so you can only imagine the shock when we found out they were going up against each other.

The Voice producers really know how to get us worried. Whitney and Shannon went with “I Won’t Give Up” by Jason Mraz as their track, but it was completely eclipsed by Kylie’s rendition of Big Mama Thornton’s “Hound Dog.”

Winner: Kylie Rothfield!

Steal: N/A

Team Miley: Ali Caldwell vs. Lauren Diaz

Lauren’s rendition of Audra Day’s “Rise Up” was a rather mediocre performance that found the contestant struggling to keep up with some of the notes. It was not the best song choice.

Ali went with Sade’s “No Ordinary Love” and it helped show off the vocal range she had and it was much better than Lauren’s performance.

Winner: Ali Caldwell!

Steal: N/A

Team Adam: Dave Moisan vs. Simone Gundy

Dave Moisan sprung a leak pretty much instantly in his performance of Sam Smith’s “Like I Can.” Seriously, it was one of the most disappointing performances of the night and it has us wondering why the heck he even chose to sing it.

Why would you sing a song you aren’t that good at performing? It’s odd.

That’s not to say Simone Gundy’s performance was much better, either. Simone opted to sing “Midnight Train to Georgia” by Gladys Knight and the Pips. It was another embarrassing performance.

Winner: Simone Gundy!

Steal: N/A

Team Alicia: Courtnie Ramirez vs. Wé McDonald

Wé McDonald continued to show off her vocal prowess with Mary J. Blige’s “No More Drama.” It was hands down her best performance on the show yet, but it also made it clear that she’s a force to be reckoned with.

Anyone who goes up against her will most likely be going home. That rung true when Courtnie’s solid performance of Beyonce’s “If I were A Boy” saw her being eliminated.

Winner: Wé McDonald!

Steal: N/A

Team Adam: Jason Warrior. vs. Riley Elmore

Who does not like to listen to some Michael Bublé? That’s what Riley was thinking when he chose to sing “Haven’t Met You Yet.” The rendition was met with rave response and rightfully so.

Jason Warrior’s performance of Luke James’ “I Want You” struggled to measure up, but it was still a thrilling performance.

Winner: Riley Elmore!

Steal: Jason Warror to Team Blake Shelton!

Who do you think had the best performance of the night? Did your favorite make the cut?
