Cody Knapek and Danielle DeGroot: It"s Over!

Hey, at least Married at First Sight will always have Jamie Otis and Doug Hehner.

The reality stars have defied the odds, stayed hitched and even welcomed their first child into the world this week.

The same things cannot be said about Cody Knapek and Danielle DeGroot.

Not a single one of these same things.

The couple, who met and immediately wed on this ridiculous reality show, are splitting up.

“It hasn’t been an easy year,” Danielle wrote on Instagram yesterday, further explaining:

“But it has been one of a lot of personal growth and of meeting some amazing people, including the one I got to marry.

“We value and respect marriage, but life is short and we also value happiness.”

She concluded in positive fashion by writing:

“While this was a difficult decision and divorce is not something either of us hoped for, we decided we will be happiest separating. Still got nothin’ but love for @codyknapek!”

The relationship lasted just over a year.

Together, Cody and Danielle said the following to People Magazine in the wake of their not-very-shocking divorce announcement:

“After a year of marriage, and much thought and consideration, we are deeply saddened to announce that we’ve decided to go our separate ways.

“We remain the closest of friends, and have enjoyed sharing our lives with our Married at First Sight family.

“We want to thank the experts for their guidance and love throughout all of this. This process has only strengthened our belief that true love does exist!”

That makes basically no sense, but hey: whatever gets you guys through this ordeal.

Knapek and DeGroot were introduced about a year ago, on August 6, 2016 … which also became their wedding date.

The Z-Listers went on to document their first few months as newlyweds on the Lifetime reality series.

The pair, however, openly struggled with intimacy issues, yet the Chicago-based dietitian and Knapek chose to remain married on the season finale.

“Thank you to everyone who supported us on our journey!” they said yesterday.

“We hope you will be respectful and understanding of our decision. I went into #MAFS trusting that this was God’s or some greater power’s plan and I stand by that now.

“Still a big believer in love and looking forward to the future.”

Added Cody in his own Tweet:

“Just wanted to say thank you to all of the #MarriedAtFirstSight fans that have shown us love and rooted for us along the way.”

Cody and Danielle are actually the first couple from their season of Married at First Sight to break up.

Both Anthony D’Amico and Ashley Petta, along with Sheila Downs and Nate Duhon, remain husband and wife.

Unlike Danielle last year, none of those spouses said they did NOT love their significant other and all, we assume, agreed to sex with each other.

It’s also worth mentioning that Courtney Hendrix-Carrion and Jason Carrion from the show’s inaugural season are still happily wed.
