Chrissy Metz Defends Latex Dress, Sends Message to Body Haters
Chrissy Metz stars on the smash hit drama This Is Us.
But she sent a message late Sunday night to a bunch of morons on the Internet, and it can be summed up as follows:
THIS IS ME.
DEAL WITH IT.
The outspoken actress appeared as the MTV Movie & TV Awards Sunday night in a gorgeous dark-red knee-length latex dress with ruffled sleeves, completing her look with dangling earrings and shimmery flats.
It was a bold look, but also a beautiful look.
In our opinion, at least.
But this apparently was not an opinion shared by everyone online.
A number of moronic/idiotic/close-minded/angry/bitter/jealous trolls on social media slammed Metz for the ensemble, basically saying someone with her body type should not wear such an outfit.
(Just in case you needed another reminder that the World Wide Web can be an awful place.)
The 36-year old star clearly reads her mentions or was told by followers about these body-shamers, prompting her to Tweet a message to these judgmental fools.
It was a short one, a simple one and a perfect one.
“For the record, I wear what I want, when I want. News flash it’s MY body,” Metz Tweeted, adding as a sarcastic hashtag: #thankstho.”
Metz – whose NBC sries was nominated for multiple awards Sunday night and which has already been renewed for Season 2 and 3 – is sadly no stranger to weight-related criticism, both regarding herself and others.
“That made me bonkers, bananas crazy,” the actress said in February of negative responses Lady Gaga received during her Super Bowl halftime show after donning a midriff-baring ensemble.
She added at the time:
“How is someone fat if they’re not fat? I wanna see somebody else get on that damn stage and do what the hell she did.”
Along with her This Is Us co-stars Mandy Moore and Susan Kelechi Watson, Metz also penned an emotional letter for People Magazine’s 2017 World’s Most Beautiful issue last month, pleading with her younger self to “stop comparing yourself to anyone or anything.”
She continued:
“You are just as important and beautiful as Amy, the most gorgeous cheerleader in your entire school, even if your hair isn’t the perfect natural shade of honey blonde or because your clothes aren’t from Guess or that your curves look VERY different from hers.
“We are all on our own journey and YOU are the driver. There will be bumps in the road, detours to be taken and pit stops will have to be made, but you’ve got to fill ‘er up and keep going.
“You will lose your map, but never your intuition.”
Thankfully, the lovers spoke as loudly as the haters on Metz’ timeline.
She received the following replies to her clap back against those awful weight haters:
You’ve gotta love and admire Chrissy Metz.
She remains herself at all times, raw, open, honest and self-confident.
We strongly urge readers to watch This Is Us online in order to catch up prior to the fall season in order to see what they’ve been missing.
From there, you can scroll around below to get an idea of what other stars wore on the red carpet at the MTV Movie & TV Awards:

Chrissy Metz Goes Glam for Harper"s Bazaar, Sets Inspiring Example
Chrissy Metz has taken America by storm as Kate Pearson.
Playing one of the beloved characters on NBC’s This Is Us, Metz has become a role model for plus-sized women who never thought their body type would be accepted in a leading role on television.
But Metz hasn’t just become accepted.
She’s become a role model.
In the April issue of Harper’s Bazaar, editors even refer to Metz as “Hollywood’s New Pin-Up Girl.”
It’s a title and a pictorial that Metz never (ever, ever, EVER) dreamed she would receive.
“When I first heard Harper’s Bazaar wanted me to be sexy. I was like, ‘Who, me?"” Metz tells the magazine, adding in its feature story:
“I knew y’all were edgy but this is incredible – it’s validation.”
The actress couldn’t contain her excitement on Twitter, either, linking to the official Harper’s Bazaar website and writing online:
“What an amazing honor and privilege full of self discovery! Thank you, thank you, thank you, @harpersbazaarus for this feature and fun.”
The photo shoot paints Metz in a very glamorous light, featuring the rising star in a red swimsuit, as well as a sleeveless, pinup girl-style polka dot sundress.
“I want to wear something because I love it,” the 36-year-old actress says of her style. “Not because it follows the rules.”
It’s pretty clear that Metz isn’t concerned very much with what others think.
Such self-confidence likely helped her land a role on a series that’s already been renewed for two additional seasons.
“If I ever end up on the worst-dressed list, it’s not going to make me fall apart,” she explains, adding:
“I want to look great and feel good and be comfortable, but at the same time, none of this really matters. This is the fun stuff.”
Those who watch This Is Us online or on television each week have fun seeing Metz and her co-stars in action.
But they also have themselves a good cry one or two dozen times per episode as well.
This is an especially sentimental and emotional drama, and it’s one Metz could not be more proud to work on.
She thinks it’s a prime example of how series regulars need not fit into any sort of preconceived notion of beauty or appearance.
“There’s more room for all of us now,” Metz tells Harper’s Bazaar. “No matter our sexuality, race, body size, gender or whatever else.”
And thank goodness for that, right?!?
