Heather North, Voice of Scooby-Doo"s Daphne, Dies at 71
Heather North, the veteran voice of the beloved cartoon character Daphne Blake on TV’s Scooby-Doo, died at her home in California late last month, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.
She was 71 years old.
Close friend Jodie Mann has confirmed the unfortunate news to the publication, saying North passed away on November 30 after a long battle with a serious illness.
North’s passing comes nearly three years after she lost her husband, H. Wesley Kenney.
An Emmy Award-winning producer and director of soap operas, he was behind the camera for every episode of the memorable 1974-75 season of All in the Family.
The actress met Kenney on the set of Days of Our Lives, on which she portrayed Sandy Horton for multiple years, and married him in 1971.
She was a native of Pasadena whose biggest movie credit was likely as Kurt Russell’s love interest in 1971’s The Barefoot Executive.
But she’ll almost definitely be most remembered as the voice of Daphne, a role she took on with the second season of Scooby-Doo, Where Are You!.
One of the two female members of the teenage investigate team, Daphne was a critical part of this beloved series.
North inhibited the role on and off over the next 30-plus years, with her final credit listed as 2003’s Scooby-Doo! and the Monster of Mexico.
The popular actress also appeared on such television programs as Mr. Novak, Gidget; The Fugitive; The Monkees; My Three Sons; and Adam-12.
On the big screen, meanwhile, she played parts in Git! (1965) and I Love My Wife (1970); and on Broadway in the short-lived 1967 comedy The Girl in the Freudian Slip.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, a memorial service is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday at First Christian Church in Studio City.
The publication also writes that her survivors include:
- Son Kevin and daughter-in-law Stephanie.
- Stepdaughter Nina and her husband Brent.
- Stepson Wes and his wife Leslie.
- Granddaughter Jocelyn.
Another stepdaughter, Kara, sadly died just a week ago.
We send our condolences to her family members, friends and loved ones.

Kim Kardashian: Terrified About How North Will Deal with Third Child?!
By now, you’ve surely heard the good news …
Kim Kardashian will become a mother of three in just a few short months!
Thanks to the magic of surrogacy, Kim and Kanye will welcome the new baby sometime this winter, and we’re so excited we can hardly stand it.
We’re sure Kim and Kanye are also thrilled.
It’s just so fun, because Kim’s first child, the legendary North West, is, well, a legend, and her son, Saint, is just too adorable.
Will the new baby be a boy or a girl? Will he or she be impossibly gorgeous like North and Saint? Will Kimye actually be welcoming twins, like some rumors have insisted?
Only time will tell.
But one thing seems certain: North will probably be super, super jealous.
Not that that’s necessarily a bad thing — the kid is only four, she’s not really old enough to understand why her mom keeps having more babies when she could just be playing with her all the time.
Jealous is totally normal, and with as outspoken as North seems to be, we’re not surprised she’s expressed that jealousy in the past.
Remember, back before Saint was even born, Kim said that she was “a little nervous” about having another baby because North didn’t like it when she even held other babies.
Then, after Saint came into the world, Kim confirmed that North was dealing with a lot of jealousy, so much that she had to “sneak moments” with Saint or have Kanye distract North.
Kim has clarified that North is “not, like, harmful, she’s not, like, hurting him or anything.”
And although Saint is just about to celebrate his third birthday, a source tells OK! magazine that “North still has jealousy issues over Saint and gets jealous anytime Kim lavishes attention on him.”
“Her temper tantrums are legendary,” the insider adds, “and Kris says it’s all their own fault for spoiling her so much. ‘No!’ is North’s favorite word right now.”
“North hates it when Saint takes one of her toys even though Kim is desperately trying to get her to share.”
Things are so bad that “North gets herself into such a state and only ice cream will console her.”
It’s tough out there for a big sister, huh?
However, things are so bad that “Kim’s worried sick how she’ll behave once their new baby comes home around the holidays.”
While it’s understandable that Kim would have concerns, we’re sure there’s no sense in her being so concerned.
Sure, maybe there will be a few more tantrums, and maybe North will demand ice cream more frequently, but in the end, it’ll all work out beautiful.

Taylor Swift: Using North West Against Kim and Kanye?!
We’re still losing our minds over Taylor Swift’s apparent nudity in the “Are You Ready For It?” music video teaser — with the music video itself coming out later this week. Honestly, nudity aside, it looks like a captivating scifi epic and we’re here for it.
But Taylor’s third single from her album, “Gorgeous,” was released last week. And fans have a wild theory about it.
Is there any chance that Taylor Swift is using North West in her feud with North’s parents, Kim and Kanye?
You might expect “Gorgeous” to get overshadowed by “Are You Ready For It?”
Both are super enjoyable songs, don’t get us wrong — but since “Are You Ready For It?” is getting an epic-looking music video released this week, it’s probably going to soar to new heights of popularity that it hasn’t seen since the single was first released.
Both songs are more innocuous Taylor Swift songs — relatively speaking.
She’s singing about love and attraction.
(“Gorgeous” actually reminds us of Britney’s “Amnesia,” which was we believe a Japanese bonus track but that’s never stopped us; both are about being so wildly attracted to someone that you can’t focus or speak or act normally around them)
In contrast, “Look What You Made Me Do” was a revenge anthem.
We don’t yet know if “Are You Ready For It” will crush all of the records like “Look What You Made Me Do” did, but it just might.
In contrast, “Gorgeous” seems like a gentle song about love and romance and is probably about Joe Alwyn, right?
Totally innocuous … it even has a small child’s voice saying “You’re gorgeous” at the beginning.
Except that this is what fans think makes “Gorgeous” part of Taylor’s feud with Kimye.
Whose child is speaking at the beginning of Taylor’s song?
Fan theories are all over the place, but one caught our attention:
North West.
That’s right — what if Kim Kardashian and Kanye West’s child’s own voice ended up in one of Taylor Swift’s songs?
Before you think that Taylor Swift isn’t a sea witch and can’t steal a child’s voice, remember that she was on friendly terms with Kanye for a while.
It’s entirely possible that, at some point, she got a recording of North West and ended up deciding to use it in this song.\
Why? Maybe as a power move against North West’s parents.
After all, it would be intensely hypocritical of them to get angry over the use of a recording, right?
Kim Kardashian orchestrated Taylor’s erstwhile downfall using a super shady, edited recording of a conversation that Taylor had with Kanye.
Is Taylor setting up Kimye to either be forced to stay silent (but furious) or to come across like whiny hypocrites in the public eye?
This theory started on Reddit, but it’s spread from there. And, sooner or later, there may be an answer.
Taylor’s long semi-hiatus from social media is over, and she’s back to publicly commenting on various sites and apps — including Tumblr.
One Tumblr user, one of only 300 fans who got to hear the song in an exclusive screening, wrote: “The baby voice; just find out who it is!” in response to a post about “Gorgeous.”
Meaning that, if he is to be believed, the identity of this apparent small child is significant.
But … we just don’t know.
We don’t imagine that Taylor Swift had a secret child (yet, if she somehow had a secret child while out of the limelight, we’re saying that we called it).
So … it could just be a friend’s kid, right?
But if the little kid’s identity is such a big deal, it’s hard to imagine that the answer will be “oh, yeah, I just borrowed my friend’s kid.”
There are other, more mundane theories.
Some think that it might be Taylor’s godson, Leo Thames. Others think that it might be Blue Ivy.
(Blue Ivy’s parents haven’t been getting along with Kimye, but we don’t really see them dragging Blue Ivy into the mix)
The most boring theory might be that it’s a recording of Taylor from her own childhood, like off of some old camcorder VHS thing or something.
Whatever the answer, we have to accept that maybe not every song on Reputation is going to be about her feud.

Kim Kardashian: I Thought I Miscarried North!
There may be plenty that is fake, phony and contrived about Kim Kardashian.
But one thing that has been painfully real for the reality star over the years has been the difficulty she’s had getting pregnant and then being pregnant.
Due to these ongoing health concerns, for example, Kardashian and Kanye West are actually using a surrogate for their third child.
According to various reports, this surrogate is due to give birth to Kim and Kanye’s daughter in January.
That’s looking ahead, though.
Looking behind, Kim opened up Sunday night on the Keeping Up with the Kardashians 10-year anniversary about her first time carrying a child in her womb.
And the major fear that accompanied this experience.
“I was so scared, I was having so much pain. I mean, at one point I thought I had a miscarriage – I was pretty certain about it,” Kardashian explained on air.
She continued telling this unfortunate tale as follows:
“I didn’t know what was going on. I flew all the way home on Thanksgiving and the doctor told me, ‘There’s no heartbeat, you had a miscarriage. Let’s get through it, come in after Thanksgiving dinner.’
“Then I went in that morning and he was like, ‘There’s a heartbeat, you didn’t have a miscarriage!’ and I was like, ‘Oh my God, this is a sign.’
“It was such an emotional Thanksgiving, and Kourtney was the only one that knew about it. Her and Kanye, because we were in Miami living together.”
Wow.
Criticize Kim Kardashian as much as you want to, but this must have been so very frightening.
We can’t imagine gone through anything like it.
Kim and Kanye are now parents to a pair of healthy kids named North and Saint.
They seem like loving, committed, doting parents.
On this same family special, Kardashian talked about falling for Kanye after her marriage to Kris Humphries fell apart.
“After my breakup, I was feeling really low and down and he said, ‘Just come to Paris and see my fashion show.’
“He jokes that he put on this whole fashion show just to get a date with me.
“So I went there and I stayed with him, and that’s where we started dating.
“I swear from the moment I landed, I fell madly in love with him and I thought, ‘Oh my God, why didn’t I do this sooner?’
“Like, this is what real life is like – love and fun and real support.”
That actually is a very sweet story.

North West Sings to Kim Kardashian: Watch!
Say what you will about Kim Kardashian — whether it"s about accusations that she and her sisters built their branding empire on the backs of appropriated black culture or maybe you just don"t care for her feuding.
But we can all agree about one thing: Kim Kardashian loves her children.
Oh, and North West is super adorable. And you"ll see those two combined in this video of North singing to her mom.
Kim Kardashian shared this video on Snapchat earlier this week.
It"s a strangely relatable moment for the wealthy celebrity as her young daughter sings to her affectionately.
North West turned four last June, so she is old enough to remember lyrics to songs and be adorable but also an age where shyness and performance anxiety are pretty normal.
But she"s happily singing to her mom and, honestly, it"s just such a precious video.
Kids are cute, okay?
The video, in which North sings "You Are So Beautiful To Me" to Kim gets a little bittersweet when you notice North"s shirt, which memorializes Aaliyah — who passed before her time.
(Also way, way before North West ever lived, but either she"s heard some of Aaliyah"s music or she"s just wearing a comfy shirt around the house like a normal child)
This came right on the back of North West"s first-ever interview.
Kim Kardashian"s more-than-questionable Jackie Kennedy photoshoot wasn"t North"s idea, obviously, even though North was part of it.
(Doing photoshoots when you"re four is agonizing — even for normal, non-celebrities whose parents insist on taking family photos while their child suffers in a sweltering turtleneck because it"s the "90s and fashions are abysmal … okay, that might be a little specific to me)
North also got to field some questions for Interview magazine, though, but they weren"t of the "gotcha" variety.
Instead, they came from people like North"s cousin, Penelope Disick, who is only 5 years old.
Another came from Kaia Gerber, who captures the shocking beauty of her mother (Cindy Crawford) at the age of 15 and who also knows exactly what it"s like to grow up with some very famous parents.
(Kaia Gerber has also faced unfair backlash, which is just a taste of what North is going to grow up with)
Sean and Jaden Federline, Britney Spears" sons, also presented North with questions.
So did Millie Bobbie Brown, though we certainly hope that North hasn"t watched Stranger Things.
So, yeah, the North interview might not be hard-hitting journalism or whatever, but it"s a sweet idea and good practice for North as she gets older.
Whether North pursues being a celebrity or not, she is one, by virtue of both of her parents.
Interviews go with the territory, even though they"re certainly not standard fare for non-celebrity four-year-olds.
(Though, really, people asking who North"s best friend is — "Mama" — and what she likes on her pizza — "lots of cheese" — isn"t exactly a series of high stakes questions and most kids would do fine with it. You"d have to be a certain type of politician to screw up questions like those)
Seeing North sing to her mom gives us a glimpse into the much more normal day-to-day life of North and Kim.
And in a lot of ways, it could be a glimpse into any house in America.
Snapchat"s for more than just finding out what music Kylie"s listening to in the car or getting nudes from a former coworker or proving that you"ve never done coke.
